Alvarez knows how to do value-packed acoustics right — just take a look at their handsome Masterworks 60 Dreadnought! This mahogany and spruce acoustic-electric is projective and tonally well rounded, in addition to being equipped with a plethora of features that will please even the pickiest pickers. Some of these include a single-marked 12th-fret inlay, beautiful Herringbone binding and ABS rosette design combo, and a real bone saddle/nut to paint a lovely picture that will look and feel right at home onstage or in any musical abode. The soft “V” to “C” shape of the body-matching mahogany neck keeps your chording hand extra comfy, whether you’re thumb picking or playing fingerstyle. Need to amplify? Take advantage of the crystal-clear tones of the onboard LR Baggs HiFi preamp and pickup! If you have any questions about this amazing acoustic-electric, just give your Sweetwater Sales Engineer a call today!

Timelessly traditional tonewoods

Spruce and mahogany: it’s a tonewood combo that has been long trusted by guitarists of many genres for decades. And that’s no coincidence! The beautiful dark mahogany back and sides of this Alvarez Masterworks 60 Dreadnought contain a rich and woody resonant quality that’s incredibly projective, tonally versatile, and as emblematic of the trade as the steel strings themselves. Topped with solid AAA Sitka spruce and paired with a forward-shifted FS6 spruce bracing pattern, this other half of Alvarez’s wood equation accommodates all dynamics vividly and with an exceptionally present boost in low end tone that’s perfectly playable!

Adorned to adore

Sounding great is one thing, but when your acoustic looks the part as well, you know you’ve found the one! A single abalone and mother-of-pearl inlay rests at the 12th fret of its Indian rosewood fingerboard for some unique character, while a real bone nut and saddle atop a the matching Indian rosewood bridge combine for low-buzz playability with a truly natural response. Rounding out this guitar's effortless style is a set of chrome Alvarez open style tuners flanking a satin headstock, adding a bit of old-school flair to the Masterworks 60 Dreadnought.

LR Baggs’ HiFi amplification

The LR Baggs HiFi system is everything players want in an acoustic-electric pickup: balanced sound, non-invasive design, and an impressive resistance to feedback. The system is beyond reliable and offers 700+ hours of use on just a single 9V battery. Consisting of a HiFi preamp, two bridge plate sensors, a discrete endpin jack, and volume and tone controls, the HiFi’s magic lies in how the system preserves acoustic integrity. Just look at the bridge plate sensors, which use materials and placement that listen to acoustic movement and tonewoods without dampening natural resonance. These sensors are guests of the sound chamber, not intruders, and what you hear is your guitar’s inherent sound and nothing more.

Alvarez: catered to creatives

Alvarez designs its guitars to meet the creative needs of players everywhere, being sported onstage by the likes of guitar legends Bob Weir and Richard Fortus. An honest approach of affordably priced and quality-crafted instrument making has resulted in a stunning variety of series and setups that will scratch the itch of even the most particular guitarists, from 12-strings to travel size, ukuleles to concert flamenco! Whatever your playing needs, there’s a long-term Alvarez companion out there ready to match your vibe. Guitars that are designed for a lifetime of enjoyment — that’s Alvarez!

Great guitar for the price
I love Alvarez, period. This guitar has pulled me away from electric guitar like no other. The workmanship is really good and the sound is very good. It's a really beautiful guitar and the gigbag was surprisingly good.
Can it compete with more expensive acoustic-electric guitars? Somewhat, with a few things that I personally would change, I would like more saddle height on this guitar and possibly a by-flex truss rod. Maybe a bit of a neck angle adjustment. The action is ok, but with these adjustments I think it would be a 5 star. Don't get me wrong, this guitar is really good and I love the sound and craftsmanship. With time, I'll have to address these issues, but for now I'm enjoying my Alvarez.
As for Sweetwater, most of the time they do a good job at get things shipped on the same day. That didn't happen this time. I ordered on a Thursday and the estimated delivery was the next Monday. The guitar didn't get shipped out until Monday for unknown reasons. I check with my rep for a reason of its delay, I was told that it was being processed and I would have atracking number asap. It sat all weekend in there warehouse. It's was really frustrating for me, since I have to adjust my work schedule to be home for delivery. That my be petty to some, but for me it was not helpful.

Unbelievably GREAT Sound
I've been playing guitar for a lot of years. This Alvarez MD60e is the best sounding acoustic/electric I've ever owned. I also have a Yamaha 12-string, a Martin, Guild and many others. The low end is nice and punchy without sounded muffled, the mods are perfect and the highs are clear and articulate.
Amazing that it took me 40 years to find an acoustic I have trouble putting down. I wanna play it all day long.
Thanks to Sweetwater for sending me the perfect acoustic/electric. Five stars all the way.

New Studio Acoustic
I have been playing guitar for well over 50 years. My go to acoustic is an Alverez 5227, a gift from my wife in 1972. As a luthier I set it up to play like butter and it sounds inedible, it is my workhorse. However, it needs a little love as the nut is cracking and the under saddle piezo which I never liked needs to go. So, it was time to invest in a new acoustic.
I looked at all the brands and decided to buy the Alvarez MD60e Masterworks 60 Dreadnought Herringbone Acoustic-electric Guitar – Natural, with the LR Baggs HiFi system. I have never bought a guitar online before but having a valuable experience with Sweetwater on other items, mostly software for the studio, I decided to give Matt Zuleger a call.
I opted to have the guitar set up with Elixir 11025 Poly web 80/20 Bronze 011-.052 Custom Light which I have just started using and they sound incredible.
The guitar arrived a little over 2 ½ weeks from the time I placed the order and after a quick inspection I let it sit for a ½ a day.
The action was Identical to my old Alverez, the neck was thinner but comfortable, somewhat close to my Strat. The sound of this guitar is very deep and loud and has incredible sustain. It just plays effortlessly.
The LR Baggs HiFi system is incredible very warm and easy to use. With volume and tone wheels under the sound hole. The soft case that came with it is verry heavy quality and I would use it with confidence in a pinch as it is the best I have seen.
I noticed with this guitar is the bridge. When playing it for the first time I noticed it is quite easy to mute the strings and had to adjust my right hand slightly to avoid this. This, however, is a plus as it will make muting much easier, it took me only 5 minutes of playing to become accustomed to this and its advantages are endless.
This is a genuinely great guitar and I just love it. Buy this guitar and Matt Zuleger is the guy you want to talk to if you do need a new guitar. The value of the whole experience from start to finish has been some kind of wonderful.
