Alvarez knows what it takes to construct an instrument that both sounds and looks great — just take a look at the handsome Masterworks 60 herringbone dreadnought guitar! This acoustic comes equipped with a plethora of features that fit the traditions of age-old Alvarez design, such as a single-marked 12th-fret inlay, a tortoiseshell pickguard, and open-gear vintage-style tuners. Other elements like an old-school binding/rosette design combo and real bone saddle/nut paint a lovely picture that will look and feel right at home onstage or in any musical abode. The soft “V” to “C” shape of the body-matching mahogany neck keeps your chording hand extra comfy, whether you’re thumb picking or playing fingerstyle. Got any questions about this amazing acoustic? Timelessly traditional tonewoods

Spruce and mahogany: it’s a tonewood combo that has been long trusted by guitarists of many genres for decades. And that’s no coincidence! The beautiful dark mahogany back and sides of this Alvarez Masterworks 60 herringbone dreadnought contain a rich and woody resonant quality that’s as emblematic of the trade as the steel strings themselves. Topped with solid AAA Sitka spruce and paired with a forward-shifted FS6 spruce bracing pattern, this other half of Alvarez’s wood equation accommodates all dynamics vividly and with an exceptionally present boost in low end tone that’s perfectly playable!

Adorned to adore

Sounding great is one thing, but with the Masterworks 60 herringbone dreadnought's classic style in hand, you'll know you’ve found the one! Bound with traditional Herringbone/ABS purfling with a matching rosette and tortoiseshell pickguard, this acoustic is dressed like a true heartland hymnist with the advantage of modern playability. A single abalone and mother-of-pearl inlay rests at the 12th fret of its Indian laurel fingerboard, complete with ivory ABS binding and a real bone nut for low-buzz playability with a truly natural response. Rounding out this acoustic’s appearance is a set of open-gear tuners packed with time-honored Alvarez charm.

Sported onstage by the likes of guitar legends Bob Weir, Joe Bonamassa, and Richard Fortus, Alvarez designs its guitars to meet the creative needs of players everywhere. An honest approach to affordably priced and quality-crafted instrument making has resulted in a stunning variety of series and setups that will scratch the itch of even the most particular guitarists, from 12-strings and travel size to ukuleles and concert flamenco. Reviews

What a wonderful instrument
I own a lot of acoustic guitars. My favorite it a Martin D18 satin. But I have to say this Alvarez MD60 holds its own in sound and playability. I'm no expert nor do I pretend to be but I think this guitar is awesome. The notes ring clear and true. Intonation is nearly perfect if not perfect. I can actually feel and hear the guitar warm up after playing for a few minutes. I know it's made overseas but who ever is building it is doing a masterful job. Oh and it's a beautiful thing to look at as well. Just my 2cents. Thanks
Music background: Amateur bagpiper- saxophone- guitar
Very pleased
This is my first "real" guitar and I couldn't be happier. After weeks of researching and going to local shops looking for an affordable solid wood guitar I selected this one. It checks all the boxes: Sounds wonderful, plays great, looks great, excellent craftsmanship all around.
Amazing Bluegrass Dreadnaught
Got this as a gift for my 44th birthday from my wife. I had been debating which guitar I should get as I was considering the Eastman 1D, Martin D10, Yamaha FG3, as well as this Alvarez. I watched tons of YouTube clips before narrowing it down to the Eastman and the Alvarez. I read that the Eastman necks were beefy and I wanted a neck that was comfortable and easy to play. I went to a local shop as they were local Alvarez dealers to try out the necks. They were so easy to play though they did not have this model in stock. It was then that I knew the Alvarez MD60 was the one. I ordered it online from Sweetwater and received great service immediately recieving emails on my order. I finally received and was like a kid in a candy store. This guitar is LOUD! I instantly felt a connection with it and how much bass it has perfect for bluegrass and heavy strumming. I had always believed I was going to be a Martin player but this all-solid wood guitar for a fraction of the price has won me over. The quality on this instrument is top notch. It is stunning and so playable with its easy neck. I highly recommend this to anyone who may be on the fence on deciding which guitar to buy.
Amazing budget guitar
I listened to every you tube clip of budget friendly dreadnaughts I could find before I pulled the trigger. In a price range of up to $ this is the one that spoke to me. But even though I have a soundbar with a subwoofer, it is not the same as being in the room. I was surprised, this guitar *does not* have any of that heavily overbuilt - heavy over finished import tone I was expecting to hear once I was in the room with it. The tone is really good. Not just for the price, but really good.

(Also, my rep gave positive input on this guitar which helped me pull the trigger.)

The tuning machines work very smoothly and no issues with the nut. It holds tuning extremely well. I love the feel of the neck! It has a very good fit and finish, much better than I was expecting.

Once you factor in the cost of this guitar, I am very impressed! (Did I mention I LOVE the feel of the neck!)

Before I had actually received the guitar my sales rep sent me the pics. I could enlarge them, and I saw a bur on a fret and was freaked out. After I got the guitar in hand the fret ends were smooth. I took a magnifying glass and checked it out. The inspector caught it and took care of it. :-)
Great guitar for the money
I've owned this guitar for a few weeks now and I've been very impressed. For something that came out of China, the overall quality is excellent. Right out of the box the guitar plays and sounds incredible. And it really looks beautiful.

One of the things that stands out is its playability. Whether its barre chords, runs or even bends, it's pretty effortless. I would even say it plays better than my Martin.

The neck profile is more V shape but not overly thick or thin. Maybe a little beefier and a little wider than a Martin but not as rounded as some Guilds or Gibsons.

Overall sound is great as well. Crank on it a bit and you definitely get that dreadnaught volume. It has great clarity and a pretty good balance in tone.

It's definitely worth the money.
