Clean, Transparent, Compact PA System

The Maui 28 G3 is a portable PA system that packs some serious power. The 1,000-watt system consists of two elements: the Maui 28 G3 column array and the Maui 28 G3 subwoofer. A dozen 3.5-inch midrange drivers and two 1-inch tweeters housed in the column array supply a crystal-clear and vivid soundstage. Meanwhile, the 120- x 25-degree dispersion pattern easily fills small venues, and the subwoofer’s 12-inch driver pumps out chest-thumping lows. LD Systems tells Sweetwater that the Maui 28 G3 portable PA system boasts a cardioid design, which provides up to 18dB rear attenuation and a controlled midrange. Whether you’re a public speaker, mobile DJ, or buying for your band, the Maui 28 G3 portable PA system delivers the articulate sound your performances demand.

Raising the Bar for Column Speakers
Hey there, fellow sound enthusiasts! As a seasoned wedding DJ, I've been on a never-ending quest for that "perfect" sound system, the one that can drop the beat when needed, or deliver those heart-melting melodies during the first dance. I've seen a lot, heard a lot, and along this fascinating journey, every once in a while, a piece of equipment comes along that raises the bar. The LD Systems Maui 28 G3 did just that.

Positives:

Power and Clarity: Man, oh man, the Maui 28 G3 really brings the noise - and I mean that in the best way possible. With a solid 1,000-watt output, this baby brings clear, rich sound that perfectly blankets those intimate venues. The midrange is detailed, the highs crystal-clear - it's a showstopper.

Impressive Lows: I love a good bass drop as much as the next DJ, and the subwoofer in the Maui 28 G3 does not disappoint. The 12-inch driver serves up deep, resonating bass that gets everyone on the dance floor moving. I've seen first-hand how much my crowds dig it.

Cardioid Design: Ever feel like you're fighting with your sound system? Me too, but less so with the Maui 28 G3. The cardioid design, with its 18dB rear attenuation, keeps the midrange controlled, enhances sound quality, and decreases the chance of that pesky feedback. It's like a nice, smooth ride instead of a battle.

Negative:

Price: Nothing this good comes cheap, right? The Maui 28 G3 is a premium product with a premium price tag. It may not fit into every budget, but for those ready to invest in their sound, I'd argue it's worth every penny.
Conclusion:

Despite the hit to the wallet, the Maui 28 G3's superior sound performance makes it a standout choice for my fellow DJs, public speakers, or bands. It's a high-quality, robust pro audio system that'll take your sound from good to great. If you're ready to step up your audio game, give the Maui 28 G3 a look (and a listen!). Rock on, my friends!

Went from RCF Evox 8 (wood box) to Maui 28G3
And will never look back. In all the ways the EVOX can be limited due to not having compression drivers for highs, these are the perfect 10 years later update. We've got some usage in quiet and medium push situations, these MAUI's come right out of the box sounding pretty close. If you are forced to hit the 31-band or PEQ much, you probably just have a bad room. : ) But seriously, from a skeptic to a believer I have gone, and it happened within the very first use. You could literally take 2 28's outside and do an acoustic act by themselves with very rich and full sound, or plop down a couple centered dual 18's and do a heavy rock show with these as Mains. (I haven't done that yet so maybe I need to run a live show with them at the top of their lungs before I endorse that- but I have made them scream playback music at peak and it was very well mannered!) Click to buy, and Enjoy- DON'T FORGET TO GET THE COLUMN BAGS (if you are moving these things in and out of shows)!
Music background: this and that at times
From a live band perspective.
I, long ago, switched from a point source speaker system to column speakers for my 4 to 6 piece Latin music band. I've tried many including Bose L1, Yamaha Stagepass 1K, RCF J8, Turbosound IP1000 and IP3000, and finally the Maui 28G3.
The way I use it: I connect mics and two keyboards to a Mackie ProFX16, and the main out of the mixer to the xlr in of the Maui. I set the master volume all the way up, less one nach, and the subwoofer volume all the way up less 6 naches. This sounds perfect to me. I place the one Maui 28G3 on the side of the band, facing at us (usually on my side so that I can reach it and control it). In this sence, it acts as a monitor. Placing it behind the band facing foward does not work as well as a monitor because that 120DG dispersion does not really work unless you are well in front of it. If I need speakers facing the audience, I bring either the RCF J8 or the Turbosound IP3000, and place it in front of the band facing the audience. The venues I play usually don't require that I do that. Facing the Maui sideways towards us allows us to raise the volume enough for us, but not too loud for the audience.
I definitely want twitters which only the Turbosound and Maui have. It makes for a 3-way sound configuration, which sounds beautiful! Between these two, the Turbosound is way lower priced. However, the difference in sound between the Turbosound and Maui reflects that price difference. It's hard to explain in words. The turbosund sounds good: good base, and nice clear highs, but it just lacks the clarity and punch of the Maui. One thing to be aware of is that with the Maui, you need a mixer, for two reasons. First, it is a simple system with no effects or EQ, except for the separate subwoofer volume which can be used to balance between the highs and lows. However, the second reason is most important. The Maui is set at that 10DB atenuation that some speakers, like the RCF J8 have. So, the volume is too low when connected via the XLR inputs. The J8, for instance, has a switch to give it a 10DB increase in gain, but the Maui does not. I am now used to the fact that I have to raise the master volume on my mixer way more than I would with any other speaker, but this is fine. The sound out of the Maui is just great. No docking, no loss in headroom or power, and extremely well balanced.
The only two negatives on this speaker have already been said here: the price, and on a related note, the fact that it doesn't come with bags, which you must get. So, that adds to the already high price. However, in the end, it's all worth the money.

From a live band perspective
I decided to move away from point of reference FOH PA speakers to a column array system for our classic rock and country band. This was motivated by a desire for more balanced, clear sound. My concern was whether this type of system would competently handle the sound for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar and drums. We play indoors and outdoors for up to 200 people.

After very extensive research and careful consideration, my gut feeling was to go with the LD Maui 23 G3. What impressed me was the build quality of these systems. They were obviously designed to withstand the rigors of transportation and live gigs. So, we had the chance to test them with two shows this past weekend. The first gig was outdoors with 150+ people. They simply amazed us! Plenty of volume with headroom to spare. Even more impressive was the rich blend of bass, midrange and highs with such definition and clarity. We had many comments from people who said how great the sound was. The outdoor test was a happy success!

The next night we played indoors to about 100 people. Concrete floor, lots of glass windows and low ceiling. This required a lower volumn setup. Again, the sound balance, richness and clarity was excellent. We truly were surprised how well this system performed. And again, many compliments from people about the "great sound."
It seems that the 120 degree horizontal sound dispersion truly works as touted.

As a band we are convinced the LD Maui 28 G3 was a perfect choice for us. They are worth the price. You hear what you pay for!

This tower is a huge upgrade from my Jbl Irx's. For a 12sub it has good clean bass, really clear vocals and leaves alot of headroom. Set up is fast and looks really nice. cant wait for the upcoming mixer version to complete my pair
