A High-quality Audio Interface That Won’t Break the Bank

Looking for a high-quality audio interface that won't break the bank? The MOTU M6 fits that description to a T. This 6-in/4-out USB-C audio interface includes ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology for top-shelf sound, along with optimized drivers that yield impressive low-latency performance. Four great-sounding mic preamps include individual gain adjustment and phantom power, while 1-touch hardware monitoring ensures smooth tracking. You'll also benefit from convenient front-panel metering, by way of the M6's full-color LCD screen. Podcasters will appreciate the built-in loopback functionality, which includes a mix knob for balancing your live input with your computer's playback. Bus-powered for the ultimate in portability, the MOTU M6 packs a lot of performance into a compact, high-powered audio interface.

Best-in-class D/A, low latency, and ample I/O

Sweetwater and MOTU have enjoyed a long-standing relationship, due to MOTU's products offering our customers superb sound and solid performance. The M6 follows suit, packing top-notch sound, impressively low latency, and ample I/O into a single-rack enclosure. Renowned ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology delivers 120dB of dynamic range, ensuring that the M6's analog audio quality can hang with the most impressive gear on the market. Optimized drivers yield round-trip latency as low as 2.5ms at 24-bit/96kHz with a 32 sample buffer. The M6 includes all of the essential connections, including four mic/line/hi-Z guitar inputs on combo XLR/TRS jacks, four DC-coupled analog outputs, and an ESS-driven stereo headphone output. MIDI I/O is also included.

Loopback functionality makes live internet streaming easy

If you do live streaming or podcasting, you'll appreciate the MOTU M6's loopback functionality. Loopback blends your mic or other input signals with the output from your computer, then sends the blended signal back to your computer. This enables you to record your computer's output, along with the inputted material. The M6 also includes a mix knob for balancing your live input with your computer's playback.

Hardware monitoring offers zero-latency operation

Latency can really take the mojo out of a performance — it's a jarring sensation. That's why the M6 includes 1-touch hardware monitoring. This feature enables all of the interface's analog inputs to be routed directly to its analog outputs, resulting in zero-latency operation. This means that there is no delay between what you play and/or sing and what you hear in your headphones. The M6's inputs can also be recorded simultaneously, allowing you to monitor with zero latency while tracking — a must for achieving a natural-sounding performance.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!

Reviews

#rd revision of review
When you turn up the headphone volume to maximum while recording into the microphone inputs, there is a distortion created on the microphone input. So I just wanted to point that out issue. To try and work around the distortion issue, I bought an HM-4 that is a 4 channel external headphone input device. It allows for turning the volume up on the headphone feed without turning up the headphone volume on the MOTU M6. Using a mixer board to bypass the MOTU M6 headphone volume issue, might work too. The video I am adding is about the MOTU M2, but the issue is on the M6 as well. The narrator of the video starts talking about the issue at about 42 minutes in.

Everything I need
I spent over a year in research in this category of devices, which led me to the decision to purchase the MOTU M6. Having now (10/23) spent about a month with it, I can see why it's been received so well by this community. The sonic quality is very impressive. Especially in the lows in which I've become accustomed to finding distortion. Not the case with the M6. Lows are clear and plentiful. Separation and clarity stand out from other devices I've used. It try to keep my songwriting setup as light, simple and easy to use. I don't want anything getting in the way of inspiration. The experience is simple yet satisfying. The MOTU M6 fits the bill.

Very happy.
Solid build. Smooth knobs and controls, was recording in minutes. Great sound, very clean and open, very fast, low latency. A big improvement over my old presonus firepod. Even without the mac drivers installed much faster tan before.
Music background: FOH mixer 30 years
Clear, articulate, and neutral
It's a very nice unit. Well built, functionally intuitive, and sounds great. It does exactly what I need without unnecessary bells and whistles.

It wasn't exactly plug and play with my new Mac Mini M2 Pro, it was necessary to download a driver. No big deal.

The only minor quibble is that all the inputs are on the back, and this makes frequent plugging and unplugging somewhat awkward. I do understand that to make the unit compact and affordable, some design compromise is necessary.

I don't have to think about it, and that's a good thing.
Exactly what you need
I could not be happier. From setup to integration into my workflow this might be one of the easiest pieces of the puzzle I've ever implemented. And this is coming from a dope who makes a living implementing HW/SW in some really complex industries.

This thing is fantastic. Seems to work with everything and is instantly recognized by other systems, as expected, every. single. time. it's been great. If you're someone like me who is beyond the basics but not ready to dump a fortune on a next level "professional" setup but expect reasonably professional results, this cat will take you a long way, I suspect.

I'm a week in, and see a padload of future with this interface before I'll need to upgrade. Really wonderful stuff with a ton of possibilities for me.
