New for
Exactly what you need
I could not be happier. From setup to integration into my workflow this might be one of the easiest pieces of the puzzle I've ever implemented. And this is coming from a dope who makes a living implementing HW/SW in some really complex industries.
This thing is fantastic. Seems to work with everything and is instantly recognized by other systems, as expected, every. single. time. it's been great. If you're someone like me who is beyond the basics but not ready to dump a fortune on a next level "professional" setup but expect reasonably professional results, this cat will take you a long way, I suspect.
I'm a week in, and see a padload of future with this interface before I'll need to upgrade. Really wonderful stuff with a ton of possibilities for me.
#rd revision of review
When you turn up the headphone volume to maximum while recording into the microphone inputs, there is a distortion created on the microphone input. So I just wanted to point that out issue. To try and work around the distortion issue, I bought an HM-4 that is a 4 channel external headphone input device. It allows for turning the volume up on the headphone feed without turning up the headphone volume on the MOTU M6. Using a mixer board to bypass the MOTU M6 headphone volume issue, might work too. The video I am adding is about the MOTU M2, but the issue is on the M6 as well. The narrator of the video starts talking about the issue at about 42 minutes in.
Great interface
I had been using (or trying to use) a Tascam DP24sd mixing board for several years. It was okay but beyond my ability to learn the ins and outs of use, way too complicated for me. With the help of my rep Mark Magdich he suggested the Motu. It was the right choice for me with my computer software, works like a charm. I am using LogicPro with a mac and it is very intuitive.
MOTU M6 Audio Interface
I love the MOTU M6
What I love about the MOTU M6 is its low latency, its window to view the volume meters, and its overall performance while recording. I might add that price-wise it is a bargain when compared to a Focusrite. Also I have a Focusrite, but the MOTU seems to outperform it, latency-wise. I also have a PRESONUS audiobox USB96. and I have 2 Eleven Racks, but the manufacturer has stopped updating the software drives, several Operating Systems ago. All of these interfaces have been great in their own ways. Comparing them all, the MOTU is the best for its compact size, performance, simplicity (User friendly), and cost.
MOTU called me and fixed my latency problem over the phone
Not too long ago I wrote a review that stated that the MOTU M6 had latency issues, but I stand corrected. A very nice MOTU representative walked me through the process of how to eliminate latency on ProTools. The Latency issue I was having involved buffering in Protools and it had nothing to do with the MOTU M6 interface. This company really cares and if I could, I would give them 6 stars for customer service and care. These days it is so wonderful to find a company that stands behind their products and reaches out to help when needed. Thank you MOTU and all the men and women that are a part of your team.
Just what I wanted
I had been using. DP24sd mix/record board for several years and struggled with it every time I used it. After talking to a friend with a home studio who is using LogicPro software I switched over to it after seeing how it worked. Keeping the Tascam board would have increased the stress and confusion so I purchased the MOTU. Best decision ever. This is a plug and play unit that is super easy to understand and use. Mark Magdich, my rep, turned me on to this and as usual he was spot on! Thank you Mark and thank you Sweetwater, you have come through for me once again. Nine years with Sweetwater and 100% perfect help!

MOTU M6
Coming from a Yamaha Steinberg UR824, I bought this because I no longer need TOSLINK connections or 8 mic inputs. The M6 sounds just as good, perhaps a little warmer with the same level of detail. It also has far less latency and does not use as much CPU. I also love the front panel monitor buttons and the fact that it can be used without a computer. With the UR824, if you muted a channel on the computer, you could not unmute it without a computer. I have found that the built-in rudimentary effects that the UR 824 has are not missed. Since the M6 latency is so low, I can use a computer for effects and not experience any delay.
Love it!
It's really nice having 4 preamps on this and the dual headphone jacks with the 3/4 monitor ability.
Using w/iphone
I am using the M6 with an iphone and it reeks of digital noise with any of my usb-c cables. My Moti Ultralite does not have this problem. Other wise it is ok with my MackBook Pro as long as I keep my iphone far enough away.
MOTU M6
I recently had an issue with my motu m6 .. after going back and forth with the manufacturer I felt like my warranty wasn't going to be honored , it came down to the manufacturer wanting more info on the unit so they can come up with a trouble shoot solution without returning the unit. after the trouble shooting procedure motu agreed the the unit be sent to them. after sending the unit motto confirmed that I was have a volume knob issue and replaced the unit . thank you Matt from Motu for all his help and the new unit works as it should.
sounds amazing...
Dependable and up to the usual MOTU standard
M6 - The clearest Preamps
I bought this Motu M6 audio interface to connect with my iPad. I had a job to record a grand piano and 2 voices in a home. The M6 flawlessly handled 4 microphones and my Zoom H4n plugged into line in... 6 inputs!! 2 small condenser mics on the piano and the Zoom capturing the room piano sound.
The preamps are what most impressed me as I could turn them to full boost with very, very little noise floor introduced.
I used Multi Track Studio for iPad which is very logical and was completely stable. Later I dumped the Wav files to ProTools in the studio using a USB C thumb drive. Quick and effective. Recorded at 24bit 48Hz.
Just does what it is supposed to do.
I like equipment that is simple to hook up, intuitive to operate and just does the job I wanted it to do. This checks all those boxes. Motu hasn't failed me yet!
Great for Laptop and IOS!
I recently decided to start using Logic Pro on my new iPad Pro for my music and live production needs instead of and in addition to my Macbook Pro. When I did that, I found that my old Audio Interface (EVO-8) was not compatible with iOS. So I decided to try MOTU. I'm so glad I did. I love the form, function, and power of the unit. The ability to have Phantom power on each individual channel is great. It can be bus powered if you have a powered hub, but it has and adapter AND an on/off switch. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new interface.
Good Sounds
The sound is very nice awesome interface.
If I had one request for MOTU, it would be if the channel selection when recording to Garage Band allowed the Main Out to be selected.
This thing is amazing.
Only had for just under a month. IT is a fantastic Audio interface with great sounding preamps and its own mixer. All I'm going to say now is this thing is it.
Good for home studio
I bought this to build a home studio around and also for the possibility of doing some YouTube videos or podcasts. I have yet to use for recording videos or podcasts, but have hooked up an external microphone and headphones, and have the ability to plug in my guitars directly through he interface. I have no complaints so far, the interface works as described, low noise, I have had no latency issues, but I also haven't stressed it with a lot of looping sounds back yet.
For me it works as it should and performs the functions I need and does those well.
Everything I need
I spent over a year in research in this category of devices, which led me to the decision to purchase the MOTU M6. Having now (10/23) spent about a month with it, I can see why it's been received so well by this community. The sonic quality is very impressive. Especially in the lows in which I've become accustomed to finding distortion. Not the case with the M6. Lows are clear and plentiful. Separation and clarity stand out from other devices I've used. It try to keep my songwriting setup as light, simple and easy to use. I don't want anything getting in the way of inspiration. The experience is simple yet satisfying. The MOTU M6 fits the bill.
Clear, articulate, and neutral
It's a very nice unit. Well built, functionally intuitive, and sounds great. It does exactly what I need without unnecessary bells and whistles.
It wasn't exactly plug and play with my new Mac Mini M2 Pro, it was necessary to download a driver. No big deal.
The only minor quibble is that all the inputs are on the back, and this makes frequent plugging and unplugging somewhat awkward. I do understand that to make the unit compact and affordable, some design compromise is necessary.
I don't have to think about it, and that's a good thing.
A Step Up
Replaced my Focusrite Scarlett with this. (Windows) The focusrite drivers were subpar though the interface sounded very good. The MOTU drivers are fantastic...latency is a non issue now. The preamp sound a little more warm as well. All in all, super happy with this purchase.
always take good advice
I originally purchased a different interface that was a bit cheaper the sweetwater rep warned me that they're not the best but I did it anyway. Bad idea I called back like 2 weeks later and Zach my usual rep helped me get an exchange that was a bit more but very much worth it. The moral of the story is listen to the one's who know and don't cheep out it costs more in the long run. Thanks Sweetwater.
Very happy.
Solid build. Smooth knobs and controls, was recording in minutes. Great sound, very clean and open, very fast, low latency. A big improvement over my old presonus firepod. Even without the mac drivers installed much faster tan before.
