A Better Way to Move Your Subwoofer

You don’t need Sweetwater sound professionals to tell you that subwoofers can be heavy and unwieldy equipment. Thankfully, with the LD Systems Maui 28 G3 Caster Board, you won’t have to strain your back to move a subwoofer into place. This caster board is built to house the Maui 28 G3 subwoofer, featuring a heavy-duty birch plywood body with a polyurea coating. The coating does a great job resisting scuffs, dings, and scratches that are so common in the live sound world. Four swiveling casters give you total freedom of movement. Once you place your subwoofer how you want it, engage the two brakes to lock it into place. Each wheel measures 80 millimeters (3.15 inches), which gives you plenty of ground clearance to traverse small obstacles. Move your subwoofer the easy way with the LD Systems Maui 28 G3 Caster Board.

LD Systems Maui 28 G3 Caster Board Features:

  • Birch plywood body fits the subwoofer perfectly
  • 2 lockable casters keep your sub in place
  • 80mm wheels give you a lot of ground clearance
  • Polyurea finish stands the test of time
  • Built-in carrying handles for transporting the board

Reviews

Handy
Fits the sub unit perfectly. Makes it much easier to reposition in the room. Be careful when moving on carpeting though. The assembled Maui G3 is front heavy and wants to tip if casters meet resistance. Not a problem on hard floors. Also pretty pricey for what it is. Something generic would work as well for less $$$, but wouldn't look as good.
Well built, but not practically functional.
These castor boards are a great match to the Maui 28 G3 both in dimensions and in finish. The wheels roll nicely and the braking mechanism is robust.

BUT...

Here's the thing... why the heck isn't there some kind of method to actually attach it to the subwoofer??!! As in, this is apparently just a $ thing that you could set on the ground and then put the subwoofer on.

Isn't the whole point of a subwoofer castor board to be a solid platform that mounts to the cabinet to allow for easier transport and movement? The only thing keeping the sub on this board 4 tiny indents of about 1/16" for the rubber feet on the sub to sit in.

What happens if you have to roll over a bump, or down an incline with a subwoofer that isn't physically attached to the board? Or if you have to stop quick? Or if you accidentally bump into something?

If you are adept at such things, it is not difficult to figure out how to permanently mount these to the subs with minimal modifications. But this shouldn't be necessary.

And even then, the castor board was designed with no opening for the handle on the bottom of the cabinet -- one of the new features of the G3 vs. the G2!

This is quite a stumble from a design standpoint by LD on an otherwise great product line.

With an attachment system and a cutout for the handle, these would be a 5 star product at this price. As designed, they seem to be nearly useless for their intended purpose, and more likely to cause accidental damage than prevent it.
