Nearfield Monitors with Massive Sound!

The Genelec 8040BPM studio monitor is a major upgrade from their 8040A model, adding ISS power management to an already amazing nearfield monitor. Boasting performance comparable to much larger systems, but in a compact package, the bi-amplified Genelec 8040BPM is ideal for use in many situations where a wide frequency response is needed but space is limited. Whether you're building your project studio, outfitting your mobile rig, or upgrading your editing suite, you're going to be glad you got your Genelec 8040BPM studio monitors from Sweetwater.

Genelec 8040BPM Bi-Amplified Monitor at a Glance:
  • Minimum Diffraction Enclosure for superb imaging
  • Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide enhances directivity
  • High performance reflex port design
  • High audio output with low distortion
  • Protected by Genelec's ISS power management system
  • Versatile mounting options plus special IsoPod stand
Minimum Diffraction Enclosure for superb imaging

The 8040BPM features Genelec's MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) enclosure with rounded edges and gently curved front and sides. This allows the 8040BPM to achieve a very smooth frequency response and superb imaging qualities with minimized cabinet edge diffraction.

Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide enhances directivity

Like all Genelec 8000 Series monitors, the 8040BPM also features the advanced Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW). The revolutionary DCW has been further enhanced to provide extremely accurate control of the 8040BPM's directivity. Genelec designed this specially shaped, very smooth surface and integrated it with the enclosure. Its area has been maximized to achieve an astoundingly flat on- and off-axis frequency response. As a result, the 8040BPM has an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on- and off-axis. This also gives the 8040BPM superb imaging qualities and less listening fatigue.

High performance reflex port design

To increase the 8040BPM woofer's low-frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec designed an ingenious flow-optimized reflex port. The long, curved tube maximizes airflow, so the 8040BPM can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimizing port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. An optimized die-cast aluminium structure with extremely durable semi-matte finish and acoustically optimized metal grilles add to the 8040BPM's acoustic excellence.

High audio output with low distortion

Genelec's low distortion drivers (6.5" bass speakers and 3/4" metal dome tweeters) are driven by the 8040BPM's dedicated 90-watt bass and treble amplifiers after sophisticated filtering. Magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry, and versatile room response controls are standard.

Protected by Genelec's ISS power management system

Thanks to Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) power management system, you never have to remember to shut down your 8040BPM monitors again. ISS constantly checks for input signal. After a while, if ISS doesn't detect anything, it switches your 8040BPM over to a low-power sleep state, safeguarding your gear and sparing you the wasted electricity.

Versatile mounting options plus special IsoPod stand

The versatile mounting features on the 8040BPM include integrated rear support points for wall and floor stands plus a further M10 thread for mounting on the cabinet base. In addition, every Genelec 8040BPM monitor comes with a standard IsoPod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler). The IsoPod is a clever mounting stand, which allows the 8040BPM to perform in either the vertical or horizontal position. The IsoPod also enables the acoustic axis of the monitor to be aimed at the listener while acoustically and mechanically decoupling the monitor from the surface it is resting on.

Genelec 8040BPM Bi-Amplified Monitor Features:
  • Compact, versatile nearfield monitor for project studios, workstations, and surround components
  • Special low-distortion 6.5" woofer and 3/4" metal dome tweeter
  • Outfitted with Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) power management system
  • Separate 90-watt bass and treble amplifiers
  • 115dB SPL @ 1m (short term RMS; peak per pair with music material)
  • Free field frequency response 48Hz to 20kHz (+/- 2dB)
  • 13-13/16" H x 9-3/8" W x 8-13/16" D (height with IsoPod: 14-3/8")

Clarity on steroids

Needed to replace my JBL MK11s and $ was my limit for new monitors. There are only about 3-4 monitor pairs sold at Sweetwater in that price range. First I bought the Dynaudio LYD 48s but was underwhelmed by the lack of detail and clarity despite it having a dedicated mid driver. I called John Vaughn and asked if he wouldn't mind if I also bought (about same price) the Genelec 8040B to compare the two brands at home then choose one and send the other back. John said that's perfectly fine. So, got the Genelec monitor today and spent an hour A/B-ing with the Dynaudios and also my NS10 Studios (which I love.) I did tight solo EQ sweeps of Jack Joseph Puig's definition of midrange - 600 to 4k -- and the Genelecs had much more clarity and detail than the Dynaudio LYD 48s even though the Dynas have a dedicated mid driver. Stunning sound. Tiny EQ moves are clearly heard even in the low frequencies. To me pairing NS10s with super detailed monitor like the Genelec is the best of both worlds. Thanks, Sweetwater. I'm one happy camper. Oh and will be replacing my crappy stands with concrete soon.

Clean, Detailed and Accurate.

Best purchase I have made.

After using them for a few months now, I had gotten better at listening from the detail it provides.

I would recommend these if you are serious in improving, I would not know about someone who is an expert since I am getting there.

Please Give Them A Shot!

There is NO other better monitor, and yes I have listened to them ALL (up to $300,000 price range).

If you are not sure of the value, research the Genelec lab. Try to get a tour around their factory in Iisalmi (Lake Porovesi). No mass production, nothing is part Chinese components, you'll be amazed at the level of technology they put into these speakers. If you love audio (any kind of audio), you buy Genelec, period! There is NOTHING better.

Be sure to carefully select the size you need for your environment, I originally went with the 8" but they over powered the acoustics of my room and went down to 6.5" which we absolutely perfect. You'll find that when sizing space/environment you'll probably want to go down one size when it comes to Genelec.

Solid professional monitor

I'm pretty impressed by these monitors. I've worked on genelecs in the studio and had a little baby 8030 that I really loved so I took a jump to these. I can say that for the money, they are solid professional monitors that I can do pro work on. At first I was worried about them being fatiguing as you kindah hear that around a lot. I would say though after having them a while, they are more brutally honest speakers than fatiguing. Meaning that they will reveal the impurities of the music extremely well, and this means distortion in your power, distortion in your cables, an inferior DAC, or simply harsh audio which I get a lot of these days with home studios. Some might mistake that as fatiguing and indeed it is..But not the speaker. I upgraded my outlets to hospital grade and upgraded all my cables and I'm comfortable with the distortion levels now. A good mix sounds sweet and clear. They arent ATC's and they make you work for the mix, but they are honest, great dynamics, and translate emotion well. You cant really go wrong with them in my opinion. I wish for a little more bass and a touch more midrange clarity sometimes...but for a middle of the road speaker...Solid, usable, and built like a tank.
