Hear the Truth

The LYD 7 is the middleweight entry in Dynaudio's LYD range of active nearfield reference monitors, which makes it perfect for small-to-midsized control rooms as well as home hi-fi deployment. The technology employed in the LYD series is distilled from Dynaudio's extensive experience in designing and manufacturing the no-compromise main monitors used in top studios worldwide. The foundation of the LYD 7's outstanding overall performance is its accurate, controlled low-frequency reproduction. You rely on your monitors to reveal the truth about what you're recording. Does the lead vocal sit right in your mix? Is there too much bass? Not enough? Free of distortion, coloration, and phase issues that can cloud your judgment, the LYD 7 lets you know exactly what's going on with your tracks, mixes, and masters. With the Dynaudio LYD 7, you'll make better recordings.

Superior technology for unerring accuracy

Dynaudio poured their considerable engineering expertise into their LYD series nearfield monitors. Accurate driver control is achieved through a custom ferrite magnet system. For superior linearity, the magnet is surrounded by a large-diameter voice coil. A low-mass aluminum voice coil is used for quick, precise transient response. To ensure the ideal balance between weight, stiffness, and dampening, Dynaudio molds the diaphragm and dust cap in one piece with their proprietary magnesium silicate polymer. The result is a monitor that lives up to the Danish tradition of excellence in speaker design.

Dynaudio knows what they're doing

At Sweetwater, Dynaudio commands respect. With over three decades of experience building speaker drivers, the Danish company knows what goes into a great monitor speaker. Add to that 20-plus years of producing professional monitors for top studios, and you have a company perspective that few pro-audio manufacturers can match. Dynaudio's proprietary driver technologies produce monitors that are neutral and uncolored. This silky clarity, in combination with amazing dynamic capabilities, delivers monitors that let you work marathon sessions without ear fatigue — all while producing superior-sounding results.

Clarity, Clarity, Clarity

Upgraded to these from my HS8s and all I can say is that I'm quite impressed. The top end on these is impeccable. Everything in that range is creamy, warm, and sparkly. The woofer produces clean, crisp, bass. I was definitely shocked at the clarity of the mids compared to HS8s as well. These are an absolute pro speaker and I consider myself lucky to be able to work with these.

Breathtaking Clarity

Coming from Adam Audio T7Vs, I opted to stay with a 7" nearfield for my home studio. At first, they sounded quite darker compared to the Adams, and much less bass. Once I adjusted the DSP settings for bass extension and broke them in for a week, the sound came alive. I have them set to brighter with bass extended 10hz. The stereo field is stunningly clear. Listening to albums I've listened to for years have taken on a whole new dimension. I can finally hear how the artist intended! It really is quite an experience to listen to older mixes and hear elements I've never heard before that are out of spec by my standards. The bass sounds perfect now, the highs are clear, sharp, non-fatiguing, and of the 3 mixes I've tested so far, they are translating perfectly to all the devices I've tested. I also feel much more confident mastering than in the past. Watching a film with these is also quite the experience! Highly recommend for the price. If you have anything bigger than maybe a 225 sq ft space or like a bit more juice, I'd recommend going with the 8". For me the 7s fill up the space wonderfully and are now an indispensable professional tool.

Fantastic monitors

wow these are fantastic monitors especially for the price. I've mixed on many popular and expensive near-field monitors, and I would honestly take these over some that are 2X the price. They have a wonderful stereo field and precise dynamics. Just a joy to listen to really. Love the dome tweeter for a much less fatiguing listening experience. Mixes translate very well. no ports on the front make for a nice tight mix. These are darker monitors you could say that highlight a beautiful midrange but still with a nice smooth top end extension so i can eq with confidence. I've owned and worked extensively on BM6A's and these are in the same ballpark. I would say maybe smoother? but maybe a bit less exciting than BM6as? I donno these remind me why I loved working on dynaudio years ago. Go for the black :) audiophiles sometimes equate a low distortion audio field as black visually. They stay out of the way if that makes sense. For the price, you cant go wrong. Without a doubt I can do professional sounding mixes on these.

Translation Nailed!

I’ve had these monitors for several months and I can tell you that you’ll hear the truth about yours or any other mixes by other artists you play through them.

I had a good laugh at some of my older mixes I did on less accurate monitors than these. Once remixed through the LYD 7’s those same mixes took on whole new dimensions in terms of sonic quality when played back on different playback systems. Everything sounds bigger, deeper, tighter, fuller, etc.

Most importantly my mixes translate very accurately.
It’s nice to have a new level of translation confidence.
These monitors are no joke, they tell it like it is whether you like it or not. Well done!
Music background: Guitar, bass, keys, recording mixing mastering production.

Punchy and clean

Disclaimer: I'm not a musician or a sound engineer. I use these monitors every day, usually at low-to-moderate volume (55-70dB). So this is, like, my opinion, man.

I bought these after I sold my Focal Shape 5" monitors, because the Focal power standby "feature" was annoying the @#$% out of me, and there was no way to turn it off.

Compared to the Focal Shape, these are more punchy, there's more bass extension (the extra 2" help!) but they sound very clean. The switches make it easy to tune the sound if you place them near a wall. And you can turn off the automatic power standby!

With that said, these speakers are not as clinically accurate as the Focal Shape, which were stunningly good. Don't get me wrong, these still sound great, but the Focal Shapes were even better, and I miss them.
The Dynaudios also emit a very faint amplifier noise when there is no signal, where the Focal Shape were completely silent, and had no background noise whatsoever (or if they did, it was well below my hearing ability).

Finally, the automatic standby feature is just as poorly designed as the Focals. The speakers should turn off when *there is no signal*. Instead they turn off *when the signal is low* (~55dB or less).
So if you play music at low volume, they will turn off after a few minutes. Then you need to crank the volume up. But the speakers don't power up immediately, it takes a few seconds, and there's no indicator. So you crank it higher, wait some more, crank it up a bit more and BOOM the speakers wake up, it's really loud, and your neighbors are annoyed. So you turn the volume down and... rinse, repeat, until you just turn the automatic standby off because it's terrible.
