Pro Monitoring for the Home Studio

Monitoring in an untreated environment is never ideal. But the Dynaudio LYD series is making clean sound for the home or project studio a reality. Dual 50-watt power amps feed a powerful 7" driver and smooth soft-dome tweeter for accurate sound reproduction. And three switches make it quick to find your room's best sound. First, a Position switch filters out reflective interference when placed within 20" of a wall. Next, a Sound Balance selector increases or reduces brightness depending on your room's character - great for moving between rooms with treated and bare walls. And finally, a three-way Bass Extension switch gives you control of your Dynaudio LYD-7's low end in 10Hz increments.

Great Monitors but standby feature is not well implemented

These sound excellent. I had bad quality using the RCA inputs, so i swapped these out for XLR cables and had no more noise issues. The standby feature isn't nearly sensitive enough and I couldn't get it to work unless i blasted something to wake them up. I have these against the wall on my desk and they sound great. Check Dynaudio's specs. They claim the optimal distance is beyond near-field range. They still sound great to me but i'll try putting them on stands behind my desk to increase the range and see if I get improvement. I have only used these, some cheap KRKs, and some nice ADAMs. I'm glad I was upsold on these!

Great Monitors

I am a guitarist transitioning from tube amp world. I currently run a Headrush Gigboard and a few other trial plugins with a focus rite interface. And they all sound great through these monitors. Tube amps are still great and worthwhile, but as hobbyist playing guitar at home only, I do not miss them. With all the available digital amp modelers and effects, these monitors do a phenomenal job of delivering their sounds.

Thanks to Josh Hacker for the recommendation and answering all of my questions!

Spectacular Stereo Field

Went from Rokit 6's to these bad boys after doing a significant amount of research and reading reviews on the LYD 7s (although the reviews are limited) and since my studio doubles as my bedroom I wanted something that would be precise but also not take up too much space and boy did I hit the jackpot.

The wall mode is really a fantastic feature and helps the acoustics in the room tremendously. What I really want to emphasize though is the stereo field. When people say you can really hear your mix in its entirety, they mean it. These things really give you an amazing depth (z axis) and width (x axis) which really are crucial for mixes.

One thing I will say is that if you want speakers that are heavy in bass, these are NOT for you. Now just because they are not heavy doesn't mean you cannot mix your lows efficiently because you can definitely hear the sounds just not feel them. (however I never have had to turn them up past half way or so because they sound loud and crisp at low volumes) Dynaudio also did a great job at making things level and not too fatiguing to the ear. I produce techno music for the most part and those kick drums and bass can really get to you after hours of listening. These completely get rid of that fatigue for me.

Overall these were a great purchase, maybe if I move to a place where I have a separate studio room a sub may help translate the low lows in bigger spaces, but these speakers are TOP NOTCH and worth every penny.

Hats off to Dynaudio.

Perfect For Smaller Rooms

I love that these translate super well at both low and high volumes. They're just revealing enough without being fatiguing. I rent a studio that uses SM9s and I honestly prefer these to them since you can pick apart a mix and hear where your problems are. After I purchased these, my mixes stopped having translation issues to other systems and I'm stoked to get the sub!

Awesome Monitor

These monitors are very very nice. They translate super well. If you pair these LYD 7s with a Sub for a bit more extended low end you really can cover just about any genre. The low end is very tight and defined, what I enjoy the most is the mid range. They feel very 3dimensional and very responsive to dynamic changes. I really enjoy these every day, just wished they had a bit more power, I am considering moving up to the LYD 48 because of the size of my studio. I highly recommend these speakers.
