Imbibe Expressive, Next-gen Production Power

The NKS-compatible Impact LX mk3 MIDI controllers have arrived, and Sweetwater’s studio pros agree: Nektar nailed it. Across the lineup — LX25, LX49, LX61, and LX88 — these controllers combine performance, interface, and production upgrades with next-level DAW integration to supercharge your workflow. Studio-grade rotary encoders, transport controls, and velocity-sensitive pads deliver precision and control, whether you’re tracking beats or dialing in automation. Each model features a newly redesigned keybed with an optimized velocity curve, giving you expressive, nuanced playability. The LX25 through LX61 sport Nektar’s responsive Clean-action synth-style keys, while the flagship LX88 mk3 ups the ante with semi-weighted keys for added depth and feel. Whether you’re working in the studio or performing onstage, the Impact LX mk3 series stands to elevate your sound and streamline your creative process.

Unmatched DAW integration

Across the enhancements introduced with the Nektar Impact LX mk3 controllers, the detailed transport controls that complement dedicated DAW-management tools are a game changer. Firstly, the DAW Looper is a suite of hands-free controls that allows you to create, edit, and manage loops within your linear timeline-based DAW directly from your controller, in addition to launching clips. With the LED-backed buttons and large global encoder, timeline scrolling, loop recording, and adjusting points are a workflow-boosting breeze. What’s more, this same encoder lets you switch between three tailored modes of Nektar’s DAW-integration capabilities: channel volume, instrument cutoff, and control of any selected parameter within your DAW or active plug-in, including your favorite NKS-compatible tools. From here, studio-grade precision is yours to wield, streamlined by the real-time display of parameter values.

Note: The Nektar Impact LX25 mk3 MIDI controller does not feature the vertical faders found on the rest of the controllers in the series.

Multimode performance possibilities

Each of the eight full-resolution encoders is paired with a dynamic display that automatically adapts to your selected plug-ins, offering clear, real-time control feedback. The encoders operate on a dual-page layout — one for Sends, the other for Pans — giving you intuitive access to key mix functions. All eight LED-backlit performance pads come pre-mapped for popular drum instruments to streamline your workflow, while remaining fully customizable to suit your setup. With deep velocity sensitivity, the pads respond to every nuance of your finger drumming, sample triggering, one-shots, and more, delivering expressive and detailed performance. And beyond the global key-shifting versatility of the Transpose function, every Impact LX mk3 controller includes three dedicated, advanced performance modes:

  • Scale Mode: Instantly lock into a scale of your choice, for live performances or studio sessions, keeping your keys in key.
  • Chord Mode: Across user-defined presets and with direct access to chord inversions, this mode allows you to effortlessly play 2–6-note chords with a single key.
  • Hold Mode: In addition to the musical versatility of the built-in pitch and modulation wheels, using this mode introduces a formidable and flexible array of legato and sustain tools.

Software included to kick-start your sound

Thanks to the comprehensive and customizable controls of the Nektar Impact LX mk3-series MIDI controllers, virtually any DAW and plug-in is primed for powerful performances, on the stage or in the studio. Its wide-ranging adaptability is complemented by the seamless functionality of its USB-C port, facilitating USB-MIDI connections and doubling as your source of bus power. Plus, these controllers feature a 1/4-inch TS input for augmenting your expressive palette with your footswitch of choice. But that’s not all, as Nektar’s partnered with some of the brightest software minds in the business to step up your setup, regardless of where you are along your musical journey. Included with your controller is a suite of virtual firepower, covering dozens of synth, drum, and multi-instrumental sounds, effortlessly integrating with DAWs that include Ableton, Logic, FL Studio, Cubase, and more!

Note: Please contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer with any questions or concerns regarding DAW integration and the use of a Nektar Impact LX mk3 controller in your setup.

Reviews

Overall pretty good
I purchased the LX88+ from Sweetwater about three months ago. The semi weighted keys are a big improvement over my old M-Audio Keystation 61. Also, Programming it with my DAW (Mixcraft 9) was pretty easy. It was plug and play, and I didn't have to download a driver. That's the good.

Here's the bad. I just found out about an ongoing issue that Nektar has yet to address...the big difference between black and white key velocity. The black keys hit with the same velocity as the white will register much higher in a DAW. The only other issue with the controller is the slick finish on the keys make finger prints highly visible.

Very Nice Overall!
I have owned and preferred 61 key synths and controllers the majority of my life until just a few days ago. Some of the biggest reasons I stayed away from 88 key boards is because of their cost, weight and size. To me most boards like that are not made with portability in mind (at least without roadies...haha). Anyway, time and technology has brought the cost, weight and size which started making them more appealing to me.

So skipping my other reasons and on to the product. I've been a long time user of the Panorama T6 (61 Key) MIDI controller by Nektar and it is still a great reliable controller that is super light with a nice screen display! I started wanting an 88 key controller for more programming space on the keys without having to hit the octave button for the extra notes. I'm not as young as I used to be and wanted an 88 key controller as light as possible with performance controllers and a nice key bed. And this new controller, the LX88 mk3 has nailed it for me!

Here's what I love about it:
* This new semi-weighted key bed feels fantastic and won me over instantly on the first few touches! I'm a synth player so I am not interested in wooden, hammer action controllers. This feels so much better when playing piano sounds and it's still light enough when playing synth or organ parts.

* What you get for the cost! Great key bed, decent amount of faders, encoders, buttons, drum pads, special performance features like scale, chords and hold functions. Though I don't need what's included with the software, what Nektar includes is nice.

* The weight and slim size makes it portable and I don't need a van or truck to transport it.

* With it having a USB-C output and it being class complaint, I can use either my iPad Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max for my sound modules when playing!

What I don't love about it:
* The manual was very difficult to find! I couldn't find it on Nektar's website and it's location was not clearly communicated at all. I finally found it included in the firmware update. That's a weird place to put it!

* The screen. I don't understand why Nektar went backwards on their display when they already make a very capable display for their T6. That is why finding their manual became absolutely necessary to program anything on the LX88. Keep that manual in your gig bag if you have to change a parameter or you are screwed until you memorize the abbreviations and the button presses you need to access what you're looking for. The easier thing to do is a SysEx memory dumb to your iPhone. That way at least you can restore it on the spot with your last saved program settings.

Wrapping up, now that I have the LX88 programmed like I want it to behave, I am much happier and really do love and recommend this product especially to those on a budget! The reason it didn't get 5 stars is because of the screen and the frustration in trying to find the manual.

Not what I had hoped
I bought this MIDI keyboard hoping that I could use it to run Apple MainStage for rehearsals or live performances (I normally perform with hardware-based sounds). While this keyboard automatically maps for Logic and GarageBand, it won't do that for MainStage. I have to manually map most (not all) of the controls, which is time-consuming and annoying. Because of this, functionality is also reduced (i.e. the buttons don't change color when channel strips are muted). I'm not very experienced in programming—so it might be just me—but the learning curve is unnecessarily steep. The keybed is nice (works nicely with either piano or organ/synth playing), and I like having an on/off switch, so those are some positives. This keyboard is recommended for those DAWS *SPECIFICALLY* listed in the product description. If you are using anything different, be prepared to be a bit disappointed.
