The 1960 Les Paul Standard, In a Glorious Murphy Lab Finish
1960 was the last year that Gibson made the original Les Paul Standard. The ’60 Les Paul Standard was almost identical to the 1959 model — with one major difference: it featured Gibson’s new SlimTaper neck. The fast-playing neck profile would go on to become a favorite of guitarists cross-genre, and remains to this day one of the most popular neck shapes. The 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue Heavy Aged honors the legendary originals with the inclusion of prototypical details such as hide-glue construction, reflector control knobs, wide double-ring tuner tips, and chemically re-engineered plastic parts. Custombucker Alnico III pickups and a custom wiring harness make this 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue perform like a treasured classic, while its scrumptious Murphy Lab aged finish gives you the look and feel of a venerable road warrior.

Legendary tone from Alnico III Custombuckers
Guitarists at Sweetwater absolutely adore the Custom Shop Alnico III Custombucker pickups in the ’60 Les Paul Standard Reissue. Each with its own volume and tone controls, these unpotted pickups will let you nail chimey country licks as easily as you dial in searing rock tones. Catnip for tube amplifiers, these Custombuckers deliver classic tone for everything from warm jazz to dirty blues. And handwired with CTS audio taper pots and paper-in-oil capacitors, you’ll have nearly endless tone-shaping control at your fingertips.
Handcrafted by Gibson’s elite luthiers
Painstakingly handcrafted by Gibson’s elite luthiers in the company’s Nashville Custom Shop using only the finest materials, the 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue — like every Gibson Custom guitar — is optimized for playability before leaving the factory. The fingerboard is polished and beveled with rolled edges before being bound, then given the Plek Pro treatment. Plek Pro is a state-of-the-art, computer-guided process that analyzes neck relief and the height of the nut and bridge. The machine then scans, levels, and dresses your guitar’s frets to a microscopic level of accuracy for perfect intonation and ideal action with no fret buzz, loss of sustain, or fretting out when bending strings. This guitar’s Plek’d frets ensure that every note in every position rings true and clear with unblemished tone.
