Epiphone’s Take on Adam Jones’ Iconic 6-string Tool

Epiphone’s Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection is a stunning tribute series to one of metal’s most inventive guitarists, with each model boasting beautiful artwork taken straight from Adam’s personal collection. Just like Adam’s own #1, this Les Paul Custom sports a feature set unique to late ’70s Gibson instruments; the body is a classic maple-on-mahogany construction, but the neck’s 3-piece maple design offers enhanced stability — it’s even further upgraded with a sleek piece of ebony for the fingerboard! Under the hood, a bridge-position Seymour Duncan Distortion delivers the same searing high-gain tones found on many a Tool album, while the Epiphone ProBucker Custom offers a tamer PAF-style shimmer for your cleaner moments. Lastly, the Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection sports all the elegance of a late ’70s Les Paul Custom with multi-ply binding on just about every surface and a moody Silverburst finish.

Over "Forty Six & 2" tonal possibilities

The dual-humbucker configuration of a neck-position Epiphone ProBucker Custom and a Seymour Duncan Distortion bridge pickup gives the Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom a vast sonic palette to paint with — from the crushing high-octane metal riffage that serves as Adam’s calling card to articulate and atmospheric cleans. Plus, while this combo is a no-brainer when venturing into heavier territory à la Tool, it boasts an exceptional level of versatility that allows you to cover just about any sonic application with ease.

’70s-style neck for enhanced stability

True to Adam’s ’79 instrument, the Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection comes equipped with a ’70s-style 3-piece maple neck. Compared to the standard mahogany found on almost all other Les Pauls, this guitar’s neck is far more resistant to warping, twisting, and change due to environmental factors. The neck is then topped with an elegant piece of ebony for a fast feel, and finally carved into the Adam Jones Custom Profile — a rounded “C" shape that Sweetwater guitarists find eminently comfortable from the first fret all the way up to the 22nd.

Highly limited Custom Art Collection

What makes this Les Paul a part of the highly exclusive Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection? Well, while it boasts the endlessly cool aesthetics of Adam’s iconic Silverburst Les Paul Custom on the front, the back of each model features gorgeous artwork straight from Adam’s personal collection. Boasting designs from a range of artists, each axe in the series is limited to a strict 800 pieces worldwide — make sure to pick up an Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection from Sweetwater before they disappear for good!

Not an ordinary Epiphone

I agree with the other reviewer, "Spiral", on here 100%. I own the Veil of Bees version and a Jerry Cantrell Wino, and both of these guitars are well above & beyond anything Epiphone has ever produced. This Silverburst, especially, plays and feels WELL above its price class.

It's a work of art and sounds amazing

I'm a big fan of the Les Paul. I have played my 1990 Gibson Standard for over 20 years now and I love it. This Epiphone is super high quality and is hard to tell a difference at all from my Gibson. I have always loved TOOL and I have always wanted a Les Paul Custom. What a Win Win! Epiphone really stepped it up for this Adam Jones model. It feels like a work of art that you should put behind glass but i recommend playing it and rocking out on it! To top it all off, it comes with a super heavy duty Epiphone version of the Gibson chainsaw case from the 70's. I highly recommend this guitar. I chose the model with Adam Jones's wife's artwork on the back. It's beautiful. As always my sales engineer, Jason Duncan is great to work with along with the whole Sweetwater team. It shipped fast and in perfect condition.

I couldn’t name you 1 tool song

A few months ago I was torn between ordering a Gibson Slash Les Paul Standard, or a Gibson Adam Jones Standard. Ultimately I ended up with the Gibson Slash Standard, but was still really intrigued by the Adam Jones because I'm a sucker for a nice Silverburst. Ended up deciding to pick up the Epiphone version. The artwork on the back blew me away and was a very original touch. Neck feels awesome and the guitar looks and plays amazing in person. The finish is beautiful. I changed the pups but that's just based on personal preference. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the pups that came with the guitar. Especially that duncan. If you're on the fence about this axe I would tell you to pull the trigger. It doesn't matter if you're a huge tool han or haven't the slightest idea about their music like me. At the end of the day it's a fabulous guitar. Epiphone did a great job with this one for sure.

Well done Epiphone

I got this as a tribute to Norlin era Les Paul customs. This is a more accurate rendition then the '79' Standard, kinda funny. Although, I do appreciate Adam Jones work, visual and audio. It's that 70's style silver burst that I've been after since being a wee lad...and, at a not ridiculous price.

I got the "Not Dead Yet" edition. Julie Heffernan's art is amazing, yet it's art for my stomach and pelvis, cause this is a player.

Epiphone has really upped their work. This guitar feels premium. The frets were balls on. That was a happy surprise. Soild steel med jumbo, very well crowned and dressed.

The neck profile is amazing. This and the JC "Wino" both have outstanding necks for the Epiphone/Epiphone IBG line. And are both the best Lps via Epiphone.

Electronics are good from the get go. I did put a bb1 in the neck, which worked for me as it was laying around and, well imo it's a better pick up.

The ebony is good. No color smudges after heavy playing. If it was staind, it was done well and right. Binding is clean. Very well built. A few tooling marks. But, thats to be expected.

There is no reason to worry about the art for your crotch. The poly should keep it sharp looking for decades of use. The control plate though, that will rub off. Best to get an extra blank one and save the fancy one, if you care.

It really is an impressive guitar.
The case is a top quality case too.

This is a great tribute to the Norlin Gibson build and the gorgeous aged Silverburst is stunning. Absolutely worth it.

I'm a sucker for silver, but...

There is no question that Epiphone has majorly stepped up its game in recent years. This guitar is a wonderful addition to the collection of upper-end guitars Epiphone is rolling out. I think the price tag is about $ more than what it should be, given that the 1959 Epiphone Custom Shop collab is only $ and features a finish that looks more like a lacquer than super thick and shiny polyurethane, and the Gibson USA humbuckers and period-correct wiring are all examples of how you can still offer killer features at right about a grand on the price tag (versus Seymours in this one). My only complaint about this guitar is that the finish is a bit too shiny for my personal tastes (you may like it, and that's okay), because I think that it really highlights the shortcomings of the inlay work. I think the inlays look like they're a step above coffee can lid, with not a lot of variance in the pearloid shade/depth and not much coloration. While it is a definite step up from the solid 1990s Epiphones (which almost made me think they used coffee can lid, LOL) that were one cloudy shade of white with no pearl essence, I'd think they could do a little better on the material appearance. Getting back to that super thick clear coat on the body, the odds it will "age" and season with any degree of desired discoloration are very low. But other than that, it's hard to complain for the price.
