Epiphone’s Take on Adam Jones’ Iconic 6-string Tool

Epiphone’s Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection is a stunning tribute series to one of metal’s most inventive guitarists, with each model boasting beautiful artwork taken straight from Adam’s personal collection. Just like Adam’s own #1, this Les Paul Custom sports a feature set unique to late ’70s Gibson instruments; the body is a classic maple-on-mahogany construction, but the neck’s 3-piece maple design offers enhanced stability — it’s even further upgraded with a sleek piece of ebony for the fingerboard! Under the hood, a bridge-position Seymour Duncan Distortion delivers the same searing high-gain tones found on many a Tool album, while the Epiphone ProBucker Custom offers a tamer PAF-style shimmer for your cleaner moments. Lastly, the Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection sports all the elegance of a late ’70s Les Paul Custom with multi-ply binding on just about every surface and a moody Silverburst finish.

Over "Forty Six & 2" tonal possibilities

The dual-humbucker configuration of a neck-position Epiphone ProBucker Custom and a Seymour Duncan Distortion bridge pickup gives the Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom a vast sonic palette to paint with — from the crushing high-octane metal riffage that serves as Adam’s calling card to articulate and atmospheric cleans. Plus, while this combo is a no-brainer when venturing into heavier territory à la Tool, it boasts an exceptional level of versatility that allows you to cover just about any sonic application with ease.

’70s-style neck for enhanced stability

True to Adam’s ’79 instrument, the Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection comes equipped with a ’70s-style 3-piece maple neck. Compared to the standard mahogany found on almost all other Les Pauls, this guitar’s neck is far more resistant to warping, twisting, and change due to environmental factors. The neck is then topped with an elegant piece of ebony for a fast feel, and finally carved into the Adam Jones Custom Profile — a rounded “C" shape that Sweetwater guitarists find eminently comfortable from the first fret all the way up to the 22nd.

Highly limited Custom Art Collection

What makes this Les Paul a part of the highly exclusive Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection? Well, while it boasts the endlessly cool aesthetics of Adam’s iconic Silverburst Les Paul Custom on the front, the back of each model features gorgeous artwork straight from Adam’s personal collection. Boasting designs from a range of artists, each axe in the series is limited to a strict 800 pieces worldwide — make sure to pick up an Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection from Sweetwater before they disappear for good!

Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Collection Electric Guitar Features:

  • Inspired by Adam Jones of Tool’s ’79 Silverburst Les Paul Custom
  • Mahogany body with a maple top delivers legendary Les Paul sustain with just a touch of high-end bite
  • 3-piece maple neck with ’70s-style volute greatly enhances structural stability
  • Elegant ebony fingerboard with eye-catching block inlays
  • Hot Seymour Duncan Distortion pickup in the bridge position unlocks searing high-gain riffage
  • Neck-position Epiphone ProBucker delivers articulate PAF-style tones
  • Rock-solid Epiphone LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece
  • Gorgeous Les Paul Custom adornments, including multi-ply binding on the top, back, and headstock

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. From our online Guitar Gallery that allows you to see and select the exact instrument you want to our 55-point Inspection process and our in-house guitar techs, we take the guesswork out of buying your next guitar online.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Best Epiphone Yet

Korade from Seattle hit the nail on the head with his review of this guitar. It really is THAT good.
The looks, the tone, the sustain, the chainsaw case, it all adds up to most likely, the best guitar that Epiphone has ever built.
Also, check out Trogly's review of this beauty.
It's different, it's beautiful and I won't ever be selling mine either.

Whoa Whoa Whoa! Let's talk...

Let's start out by addressing the elephant in the room. Is this a Gibson? No. So it must have bad quality control, right? Absolutely not. Is it worth the $ price tag? 1000% YES! I own several Gibson Les Pauls and I can tell you these Adam Jones Epiphones are something special. I am still in shock about how good the build on this guitar is. The amount of work, attention to detail, and quality control is through the roof. Even though it has some less expensive components, this easily plays on par with my Gibsons. It's that good. Starting with the absolutely perfect fret work; smooth, level, with zero sharp fret ends. Flawless binding around the whole guitar (body, neck, headstock) with no paint blips or drips. Smooth stable tuning with perfectly cut nut slots. Gorgeous finish and burst. The pics don't do the paint job justice and the tint and burst look so much better in person. The sustain on this guitar is wild. When I hit a note, I FEEL IT reverberate through my whole body and it just goes and goes. LOUD, did I mention this guitar is LOUD?! The Seymour Duncan Distortion humbucker matched with the maple top really makes it effortless to hit the gamut of Adam Jone's sought after tones heard throughout Tool's discography. To give props where due, I ordered mine through Sweetwater and it arrived with a straight neck with the action and intonation dialed right in. I was able to tune it up and play it right out of the box.
Side Notes:
a) I have played several vintage Gibson Silverbursts over the years that left me slightly disappointed. Mainly because they've needed a lot of work thrown into them on top of an already hefty price tag. What I love about the Adam Jones Les Paul is that it matches the specs of the original 79's without the years of wear on all the components. It gives me exactly what I want without the constant maintenance headaches.
b) The neck is extremely comfortable. It's 22.3mm at 1st fret & 24.9mm at the 12 fret. The exact same as you would find on a PRS Pattern Vintage. But, it is slightly slimmer in width towards the body making it just the right fit in your hand. The Goldilocks of necks if you will. It's not too fat or too thin. Especially for playing Drop D tuning chords.
c) Artwork - I got the Julie Heffernan and it looks stunning. If you are not a fan of the artwork, I have great news for you, it's on the BACK of the guitar. You're not going to see unless you drop the guitar. And if that happens, you'll have more important things to be worrying about.
d) I have spent a lot more money on a lot worse guitars. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with this guitar. I feel like I got the most bang for my buck. Epiphone really knocked it out park with this one. Try one out, they're not for everyone. But I can tell you, I will NEVER be selling mine.
