A Great-sounding, Affordable SDC from Lewitt

If you’ve been looking for an affordable small-diaphragm condenser microphone to capture acoustic instruments, then the Lewitt LCT 040 MATCH should be on your short list. With its proprietary capsule and circuit design, the LCT 040 MATCH delivers a natural, well-balanced, beautifully detailed, and open rendition of virtually any source that can stand on its own in solo settings. Engineered in Austria, the mic has a pleasant, airy high end, with ample midrange presence and bottom-end oomph to punch through the mix. From the product’s name, you may have caught Lewitt’s not-to-subtle hint that these mics are intended to be used as a stereo pair — at this wallet-friendly price, we’d wholeheartedly agree!

Double your value

The LCT 040 MATCH is indeed available as a stereo pair — which in no way negates this mighty mite’s efficacy when used singly on acoustic guitar, drums, or really, any acoustic instrument. Its durable, lightweight aluminum housing and petite form factor make it perfect for capturing snare drums and other hard-to-reach sources in the studio and onstage. Even better: double your value with a stereo pair. They’re supremely cost-effective when used as drum overheads, room mics, or to capture a grand piano in glorious stereo. Get your Lewitt LCT 040 MATCH — or a stereo pair of them — from Sweetwater today!

Reviews

A must have
I think a stereo pair of pencil condensers can cover almost everything youd need when recording acoustic instruments and these are excellent. A lot of people are probably drawn to them for the price, but I actually prefer them to many other mics that are much more expensive. I love how flat yet detailed they sound. You can really dial in the tone you need simply by moving the mic and using proper gain staging. I ran it through my 500 rack with two different preamps (fredenstein artistic and great river) and it came through both beautifully. This is such a swiss army knife that I can't recommend it enough. Definitely have them in your mic locker
Perfect for field recording!
Im someone who has worked in professional audio for 20+ years and have to say that these mics sounds great at capturing stereo field sources. I was skeptical at first because the price was so affordable but when I did my test with them I was pleasantly surprised on the detail and flat frequency response. Most cheaper mics at this price point usually sound harsh in the mid and top end sounding thin but these sound very balances. I barely used compression or EQ in post because the sounds were pleasing in my ear, just a bit of low end roll off.

I wish they would make a shotgun style mic.
Great Price & Great SDCs!
Wanted to expand my mic collection with some SDCs, and while I was first planning on buying the LineAudio CM4s, I saw that I could grab these Lewitt LCT 040 ones as well.

For my specific uses (keyboard typing sound tests), it was well worth it! As always, got some yummy candy from Sweetwater to top it off.
Excellent SDC Mic - Overheads & Acoustic Guitar
The clarity of these mics as overheads is why these have become my go-to mics for recording. These have replaced my LDC vacuum tube mics as overheads for most recordings and those mics are far more expensive. On acoustic guitar, the clarity of these mics is also key for me why I would pick them over other options. (SM81's, AT4033s's) If you are looking for a natural sounding mic you cannot go wrong.
Great
Look yes you can spend more for a matched pair of SDC but is " more" better ? What " more" are you getting with 2k matched SDC ? Its negligible and IMO a waste of money. I defy the listner or even an engineer to discern what mic was used on a session and in a mix. The difference between very very good and great is indiscernable in a mix , especially drum overheads which is how I use these paired with a Coles 4038 employing the Weathervane recording technique. I like LDC for acoustic guitar and Crown PZMs for Piano so as far as drum overhead mics go these things KILL! I dont know what more you could want.
