A '50s-style Rocker with P-90 Muscle

The Sire Larry Carlton L3 P90 is a '50s-style single-cut that's ready to rock. Boasting an L Junior-shaped mahogany body, this axe possesses an inherently resonant acoustic tone that really roars to life through its gnarly P-90 soapbar-style pickup. You'll be greatly impressed by the playability afforded by the L3 P90's "C"-shaped mahogany neck; its 12-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard, which includes smooth rolled edges, ensures lightning-fast finger action. This solidbody electric guitar brandishes vintage-style hardware, including a wraparound bridge and standard die-cast tuning machines. Light-catching chrome hardware, pearloid dot fingerboard inlays, and a classic-style pickguard round out the L3 P90. Players searching for an economical junior-sized single-cut owe it to themselves to take the L3 P90 for a test drive.

L Junior-shaped mahogany body

Carved from a solid slab of mahogany, the L3 P90's classic L Junior-shaped single-cut body teems with '50s-era flair. Mahogany offers an incredibly warm, resonant sound, arming you with a solid core acoustic tone that's primed and ready for anything. The guitarists here at Sweetwater appreciate how light this axe feels when you strap it on. That said, there's nothing lightweight about its sound — it's a heavyweight rocker through and through.

Roaring LC Vintage P-90 pickup

The Sire L3 P90 comes equipped with an LC Vintage P-90 soapbar-style pickup. While this is a single-coil pickup, it's a far cry from the chimey, glassy sound you'd get from an S-style single-coil. Plug into your favorite amplifier, and you'll agree that the L3 P90 is raw and rude, churning out scorching-hot, thick-as-molasses tones by the truckload. This electric guitar includes global volume and tone controls.

Comfortable playability

From the moment you pick it up, you'll have a hard time putting the L3 P90 down. Its set-in "C"-shaped mahogany neck plays like a dream, and its 22-fret, 12-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard, which includes smooth rolled edges, facilitates fleet-fingered fretboard maneuvers like nothing else. The L3 P90 includes a bone nut and standard die-cast tuners.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

My first - but not last - Sire
A completely ridiculous value. The TV yellow color is what i'd hope for from a Gibson ten times the price. Perfection. The neck and fretboard are not just good, but honestly excellent. Intonation is perfect, which i didn't think was possible from a wraparound tailpiece. The sound. Oh baby. And that volume knob is the most responsive i've played on any guitar. Smooth and linear. If i had to find a flaw, it's got a bit of neck dive. Not SG level, but some. It's an extremely light guitar, so i suppose that's the trade off with this style. If you're wanting a p90 guitar and feel the options are somewhat limited, please do yourself a favor and try this one.
Excellent Guitar!
Great guitar right out of the box. Hate Gibson's big neck profiles? This is for you. The neck is very comfortable to play without the baseball bat feel. The P90 is one of the best I have ever heard. I found no finish flaws. And you cannot beat the price point.
They use a lot of superlatives to advertise this guitar...
...and every one of them is true.

There is nothing I can really add to what Sire itself says about this guitar. Believe them. It's almost perfect. The fit and finish are better than I could have expected at this price point. I lowered the action a smidge and it stayed intonated up to the 22nd fret! It STAYS IN TUNE! The only niggle I might have is there is no "belly cut". I know they are staying true to the original design, but it's something that the audience will never see (or care about) but goes a long way for player comfort. Even Fender added one to the Tele. That said, I believe this is the best bang-for-buck guitar I've ever bought.
Great job Sire!
Great Bang For the Buck!

At $, this guitar shouldn't sound as good as it does! If you've wanted a Les Paul Jr. but haven't felt like forking out $ or you already have an LP jr. and wouldn't mind having a less expensive one - this guitar is for you. The finish in the guitar is better than I expected, fairly heavy Les Paul Body. The neck is in between the fat Gibson 50's neck and the slim 60's taper, standard Grover/gotoh clone tuners that work great. Despite having both a mahogany body and neck, the bone nut and compensated tailpiece are a nice touch. Took off the cavity cover and found the handwired pots, Gibson clone control knobs - nice! At this price point, I was sure the P90 pickup wouldn't be very good - I was wrong. Unlike the pickups found in many low priced guitars like Epiphones which are muffled sounding and just not good enough to do justice to the guitar. One the other hand, this P90 pickup actually sounds pretty good! - true to a P90 tone with vintage resistance. Unfortunately, when my guitar arrived it had a couple very high frets and needed a setup that included a "Severe fret Dressing." The truss rod had to be completely loosened to avoid buzzes - that was a bit disconcerting. However, I would absolutely recommend this guitar to someone!
