A Katana for Bass is Finally Unsheathed

Bass players rejoice: the incredible sound and flexibility of the BOSS Katana series has entered the low-end realm with the Katana-210 Bass Combo Amp! This 300W peak (160W continuous RMS), 2 x 10-inch combo serves as an all-in-one bass amp for both stage and studio use, with a trio of amp types alongside powerful tone-shaping tools to nail any sound imaginable. With the Katana-210 Bass combo's built-in Comp and Drive controls, you can leave the pedals at home, with FX1/FX2 controls unlocking an even wider range of BOSS-inspired effects. And while this amp packs more than enough power to handle small- to mid-sized venues, onboard attenuation in the form of a Power Control takes you down to 1-watt operation for quieter playing without tonal compromises, as well as a cab-sim-equipped USB and Phones/Rec Out for silent practice sessions. Pair this impressive combo with the BOSS Tone Studio editor, and your sonic options become near limitless — anchor your bass setup with the ultra-versatile BOSS Katana-210 Bass Combo Amp!

Three incredible bass amps in one

Much like the Katana line's other offerings, the BOSS Katana-210 Bass places a strong emphasis on versatility, arming you with three unique amp voicings alongside a wealth of tone-shaping tools and effects. Swapping between voicings is a cinch, with a single knob going from the full-bodied warmth of Vintage to the punch and clarity of Modern and even a Flat option allowing your instrument's organic tone to shine through. Once you find that ideal amp type, a powerful Shape function toggles between three distinct tone characters — mid-scoop, bright, and extended range — with a Pad button next door for some attenuation if need be. Need some additional sonic tweaking? A 4-band EQ with selectable low- and high-mid frequency controls is fully prepared to fine-tune your tone with surgical precision.

All the FX you need built right in

Apart from its studio- and stage-worthy tone, the Katana-210 Bass boasts a quartet of independent effect sections for adding some additional depth and character to your sound. Its Input EFX section sports Comp and Drive buttons with a single knob to dial in the perfect amount of compression and saturation. Sweetwater bassists appreciate the convenience of having these critical tools built right in, made even better with an expansive Effects section that accesses a wide range of additional stomp-style effects for crafting your signature sound.

Cab-emulated output for silent recording and performance

While the Katana-210 Bass offers a Power Control for getting cranked-amp tone at a low volume level, you can achieve truly silent operation onstage or in the studio. Cab emulation is available via the USB and headphone/recording output. However you choose to monitor your Katana-210 Bass, it'll feel like you're standing in front of an amp.

Powered by the BOSS Tone Studio

The Katana-210 Bass supports a variety of timeless BOSS effects, with deep customization to further enhance and define your sound using the BOSS Tone Studio software. Simply connect the Katana-210 Bass to your computer via USB, load up Tone Studio, and you're well on your way to creating your own setup. Need some inspiration? Download any of the premade setups created by pro guitarists for a solid tonal starting point. Best of all, the Katana-210 Bass can store multiple custom amp and effects profiles for instant recall, making this combo a versatile multichannel amplifier.

Reviews

A powerful tone monster of a bass amp
The Katana 210 is an absolute beast. The power is class A/B, so it's plenty loud and easily keeps up with a full band. I'd say it's a little louder than a Rumble 500 but with more presence on the low end. You can push it to 100% before it breaks up with a 4-string, maybe about 65-60% with a low B before it'll start to break up.

The tonaly flexibility of this thing is it's killer feature. Just with the three amp models and the three tone shape variation, you get a wide array of tone options, and that's before you even get into the 9-level EQ, three types of compressor, or pedal closet full of effects. I also added the Boss 6-button pedal, which adds the ability to program multiple banks of 4 presets, along with a boost function, and a stomp box mode. I use Tone Studio from my iPad via Bluetooth (which is unfortunately an add-on accessory) to set everything up. You can use the native controls to do a whole lot of things, but Tone Studio makes it incredibly easy. It's fun to download tones others have assembled, then tweak them for your purposes.

One of my favorite features is the simple single knob to add dry level to the mix. Incredibly useful for presets or if you're playing live and just realize you'd like more of the core tone and less effects. I usually use nothing more than the EQ, tone shape, and compressor paired with the various models, but do have a couple distortion and phase presets that come in handy during covers.

I've only laid down a few tracks using this amp, but I just used the direct out to my Scarlett 1820 and the cab emulation recorded exactly what I hear in the room. It can easily be used as a glorified direct box to record a dry signal, if you prefer to process in post, but the cab emulated tone captured by the direct out has been spot on in my limited experience.

So this comes highly recommended, is loud enough to be the primary practice and stage amp in a band, and is ridiculously flexible. If you want a modeling amp that plays live with the ease of a traditional amp, this is your box.

BOSS Katana 210 Sounds like a BOSS!!!
Programming tones is easy and the selector switch is easy.

The extension cabinet is my next purchase.

Everything for my multiple bass rigs is BOSS.

Boss Katana Bass 210 Thump.
Just diving in to to this amazing combo amp. The bang for the buck factor is huge! This is a small to medium venue amp. Perfect for me. Others may require more power. The wet / dry signal blend is a great feature. Class A/B power instead of Class D is deceivingly loud and punchy. Just getting to know this amp, I really like it though.

It's a beast
Very versatile and powerful amp for the size and power. I used it in a hall venue already for a practice, it filled and blended with everything nicely. The adjustments in tone studio make it a lot of fun to craft specific sounds. Quality is very nice! Had a buddy with a much more serious rig try it, he was pretty pleased with it too. Can handle a lot of range and provide oomph when needed.
good bass
this a great bass. i don't understand why the internal don't play when you add another cab. there must be a way to fix this.the amp being a a b class makes it a gread deal stronger than a class d of the same watt
