Handheld Vocal Condenser Mic, Fixed Cardioid Polar Pattern

Neumann is world renowned for their legacy of fantastic studio microphones, but with the elegant KMS-104 they are making their uncompromising standards available in an affordable high quality hand held microphone. The KMS 104 features all the same capabilities that have made the KMS 105 so successful for Neumann, however, offers the choice of a cardioid polar pattern.

The exquisite design includes an elastic shock mounted cardioid capsule with a foam-lined grille, providing a robust method of getting rid of those frustrating plosives. Not only is it a luxurious looking mic, but it's also very lightweight making it a pleasure to use in a live performance.

When compared to other handheld vocal microphones, the KMS 104 offers a superior resolution of the voice, with extended frequency response and accurate transient detail. Sibilance problems common to other handheld condenser mics are eliminated.

The frequency response characteristic is developed in the acoustic realm, allowing for accurate representation of transient details found in music and speech, and thus transmitting a very "open" and detailed capture of the human voice. The frequency response and in-built highpass filters have been optimized for very close miking. They compensate the proximity effect, resulting in an even sound reproduction.

The KMS 104 is provided with a capsule with cardioid characteristics, yielding the best rear sound rejection. The KMS 105 uses a capsule with supercardioid characteristics, yielding the best front-to back
rejection ratio.

Neumann KMS 104 Features:
  • Matte black finish
  • Condenser microphone for crystal clear highs deep lows
  • Neumann sound on stage
  • Excellent transparency for vocals/speech
  • Without off-axis coloration
  • Transformerless output
  • Fixed cardioid polar pattern with excellent feedback rejection
  • Effective pop shielding without any side effects
  • Very high attenuation of handling and structure-borne noise,
  • High-loadability transformerless circuit
  • Extraordinarily true sound transduction free of coloration.
  • Balanced, transformerless output.
  • Set includes stand clamp
  • Requires +48V phantom power
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Reviews

Great workhorse for the serious vocalist
I purchased this mic for my wife who is a singer. For the past 6 years she has been taking it everywhere, from local gigs to touring all over the world. Vocalists get to deal with a lot of bias from sound people, who for example will place all their expensive Neumann condensers in front of the sax players and trumpets, and then hand the vocalist a cheapo Shure SM58. Great mic when all you need is cut through in loud rock, but not a mic that renders the subtleties and expression of your vocal performance in its well-conditioned glory, like any quality musical performance deserves.Bringing this mic to the show (and tell them about the phantom power!) ensures you will sound like you. A sturdy and reliable mic that provides a truthful and pleasant rendering of your voice that you can count on.Expensive, but worth it many times over if you care about YOUR voice.

Exceptional Mic
This is an exceptional mic and just what you might expect from Neumann. Crystal clear and accurate, great feedeback rejection. Good or bad, it captures everything in your voice. I had been using Sennheiser 935 and the venerable SM 58 and Beta 58. None of those are even close. Spendy but worth it
Music background: 50 yrs of R&R, Bluegrass, Folk and Country
Like Putting on Seven League Boots
I absolutely LOVE this mic. It is very present. It picks up every nuance of your voice and emotion and it perfectly suits my mic style - which is super close up on it. I upgraded from an SM58 to an AKG 535, which was pretty good. Say, the power of ten better. But to upgrade to this from the AKG was incredible. Seven league boots possibly doesn't even do it justice.

Unmatched
This microphone is totally top-notch. I was working sound for a jazz variety show, and we had a number of microphones on the stage. I noticed this one and approached it, curious because of the clarity I was hearing on our saxophones. I turned it over and noticed it was a Neumann. I was excited, to say the least, to be working with a $700 microphone. We used it on a vocalist in one of the ensembles, and his voice just shined. The clarity and smooth quality of the vocals were exactly what you´d expect out of one of the most famous, most expensive stage microphones on the market. Working with one of these today was truly a highlight of my life.
Umm....Awesome
Had a vocalist bring one of these with her for a gig. It's an amazing mic. Kinda steep price point for a handheld vocal, but worth it if you want the quality.
