Really Great Headphone

Very light very large ear cups long cable all around comfortable and they sound great
Music background: Gospel

The sound is good. The comfort is excellent. The price is right.

Know What They're For

This is a nice pair of headphones. AKG, in my experience, make by far the most comfortable studio headphones you can wear. I bought these specifically for that level of comfort. The 72's are nice and large and perfectly adjust to the shape of your head. They are unbelievably lightweight, too - though this can make them feel a bit flimsy at first. I give it 3.5 stars because I feel that there is better overall value to be had at this price point. The biggest asset these have is how comfy they are, but their sound quality is about the same as a $30-$40 pair of Audio Technica's. That's not meant to insult these - they sound fine - it's just that I wouldn't pay the $50 for the K72 just for their sound. For $10 more, the AKG K92's are completely identical physically but provide a very noticeable upgrade in sound definition (more than $10 worth to my ears). If these were around, say, $35-$40, I'd definitely give them 5 stars and recommend them over everything else. Until then, just know that they're a good pair of headphones that give you lots of comfort. If sound quality is a big deal to you - upgrade to the K92's or better. If not - save yourself a little cash and grab these.

I was more disappointed than I cold ever imagine

I ordered 4 pairs of headphones for some studio sessions, 1 pair of sennheiser hd6 and 3 pairs of these akg k72 headphones. I've heard great things about their sound quality and thought they would be a perfect fit for my project due to their price. The first pair I opened, brand new out of the box, had a short in the cable and one side wold cut in and put when you touched the connector end. They also sounded like the sound source was under water. After being dissappinted about the first pair I had to test the other two, ya know, stuff happens, maybe it was just one bad pair. ALL THREE headphones had the same problem. I called Sweetwater and returned them and got replacements the next day, same model, just three brand new pairs. ALL THREE OF THE REPLACEMENTS had the same problem! 6 pairs of these brand new out of the box were defective. I went with Audio Technica ATH-m20x as a backup plan and they are absolutely wonderful. Exponentially better than these akg's, now known to me as "that company that doesn't work"
