AKG K712 PRO Open-back Over-ear Headphones at a Glance:
  • Amazingly speaker-like monitoring with spacious soundstaging
  • Extremely lightweight comfort and adjustability for extended studio use
  • AKG innovation that runs deep
Amazingly speaker-like monitoring with spacious soundstaging

The AKG K712 PRO headphones have an open-back design. Open-back headphones give you a more natural, speaker-like listening experience with a more spacious soundstage than closed-back 'phones can produce. This overcomes the main objection many recording engineers have to monitoring on headphones: the sense of being smack dab in the middle of your mix. It also lets you dodge one of the main drawbacks of monitoring on 'phones: that mixes don't translate well when played back on various speaker systems.

Extremely lightweight comfort and adjustability for extended studio use

The AKG K712 PRO headphones sport cushy over-ear earpads that comfortably envelope your ears and a fully adjustable soft leather headband so you can monitor marathon sessions without discomfort. And at just over half a pound, the K712 PROs are so lightweight you might even forget you have them on!

AKG innovation that runs deep

AKG has been synonymous with premium sound quality since 1947. Every day, musicians, recording and mastering engineers, and music lovers rely on AKG transducers to deliver accurate, detailed sound. The K712 PRO headphones' open-back design, flat 10Hz-39.8kHz frequency response, and premium matched drivers with innovative flat-wire voice coils serve up amazingly natural sound, a wide stereo image, and stunning depth of field. We're confident you're going to love these amazing headphones.

AKG K712 PRO Open-back Over-ear Headphones Features at a Glance:

  • Improved low-end performance for more powerful sound imaging

Reviews

Epic!
I love these cans. The sound stage is amazing and the clarity is the best one can get for the price. The head phones are light weight and very comfortable. The size is a tad bit intimidating, but rest assured, they feel and sound great. The one downside, get a headphone amp.

Excellent reference headphones and worth the price
At first I thought th K712s were a bit pricey and wondered if the "improvement" was worth it over my other similar reference phones , but I was pleased how accurate the imaging and depth is, as well as the transparency. They of course are open-back so expect the usual properties that come with those- eg., more true but "weaker" bass response, not preferred for tracking, etc. . But they are light and remarkably EQ balanced as shown by the new ARC ON EAR EQ curves and the moderate impedance (around 70 Ohms if i recall) is not a problem for even Scarlett Gen 3 interfaces and is only improved by the ARC ON EAR analog input. Wonderful for critical monitoring such as surgical EQ (room resonances) and Mastering subtleties of a few dB. Very nice for casual listening too!

Expensive, but worth it
I've always liked AKG headphones since an engineer I know introduced me to them many years ago when I used to frequent his studio to play sessions. The K240Ms were so comfortable, I could wear them all day. Now, with the K712s, the sound takes a major step forward. They're still really comfortable, but they have a surprisingly ample low end, are pretty even up the spectrum, and have a great sound field. I use them to mix all the time and catch things in these that I can miss on other monitors. Expensive, but worth it.

amazing but the price hike is crazy
I got mine during the pandemic for around $. The price then was $ or so if i remember correctly. seeing the price hiked to $ is kind of insane...BUT these things are amazing. the build is super sturdy. I've went through a stretch of a couple of months where i was quite reckless with them; dropping them all over the place, accidentally sitting on them, etc, and they still look new. Very well-made headphones and they sound incredibly. I produce in headphones and always have. I prefer it because i hear the stereo image better and these show you just how much space you have to work with. the only gripe i have is that the low end on these isnt THAT great and you can find yourself overdoing it but its a minor adjustment.
