Designed for #4

Now in its fourth generation, the Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster continues to deliver tenacious tone and eminent playability. Working closely with the Slipknot guitarist, Fender endowed the Jim Root Jazzmaster with a pair of his signature active EMG Daemonum open-coil pickups for a full-on sonic assault. The 12"-radius ebony fretboard packs 22 jumbo frets to support your most frantic fretwork. And with its simplified control set, with three-way switching and a master volume control, the Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster guitar minimizes the electronics to maximize the tonal assault on your amplifier.

Jim Root's Signature EMG Set

For years, Jim Root was a devoted user of the EMG 81/60 pickup set. In 2017, he and EMG set out to create a set of pickups that combine the strength and power of the 81/60 with the versatility of EMG's Retro Active design. After testing multiple prototypes during the recording sessions for Slipknot's 6th studio album, the Daemonum set was born. Consisting of two passive humbuckers driven through an active preamp, these pickups create a massive wall of sound that cuts to the front of the mix.

Non-traditional mahogany body

While most Jazzmasters sport an alder body, Slipknot's Jim Root plays a mahogany model for its tighter low-end response and awesome sustain. The Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster holds true to his signature guitar, with a mahogany body that sets it apart from most Jazzmasters. The white finish and open-coil EMG pickups complete this metal machine's distinctive appearance.

Made for today's metal guitarist

The unique offset body design of the Jazzmaster has made it a stand-out on stages across the world. Jim Root's signature Jazzmaster takes this prized instrument and tweaks it for metal, with a pair of his signature EMG pickups and a 12"-radius fretboard for effortless lead playing. All of the electronics were stripped out except the volume control and pickup switch. Take it from the guitar experts at Sweetwater, you'll love the aggressive character of the Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster.

Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Signature Jazzmaster built in collaboration with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root
  • Mahogany body for a thicker tone with added midrange
  • Active EMG Jim Root Signature Daemonum humbuckers deliver the quintessential metal sound
  • Hardtail string-through bridge enhances sustain
  • Ebony fretboard with a 12"-radius for fast fretwork

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Instant Metal Classic

I had Sweetwater set this up for Drop B since that's what Jim and I play in (and because why would you play this in any other tuning?). Anyway, guitar came this afternoon and out of the box is one of the best guitars I've played. The neck claims to be "thin" but it's considerably beefier than my Ibanez JEM77's neck, but more symmetrical than my two PRS SE C24's. If you've ever played an Ibanez AZ it kinda feels like that. Very solid and very smooth with the satin finish on the back.

Weight wise, mine's just over 8 pounds but it's a light 8 pounds. Very good balance across the body and neck.

Speaking of balance, I need to talk about these EMGs. I'm not an active pickup guy. I've tried them and they're kinda stiff. These Daemons, however, are MASSIVE and clear. It's like a Seymour Duncan Pegasus but with a bit smoother top end. Stealing Isis (the band) riffs has never sounded this clear. Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff sounds great on this. Oh and I guess it sounds like Slipknot through my Rockerverb MkIII. And the pickups clean up beautifully, even on the Rockerverb's dirty channel. I'm gonna try this out later with the Orange Jim Root Terror,

If you need a riff machine, this is it. Splurge on the Sweetwater setup. Tune it down. Chug riffs until you pass out.

Classy Beast

I pre-ordered this guitar when it hit the site. My rep Ryan Wiltermood was on it and was able to ship it out as soon they were in stock. This guitar absolutely kicks ***. The signature Root EMGs are well rounded and cover a wide range of styles. It's just a classy beast of a guitar.

THE HOLY ONE……

This guitar is a total workhorse, I have 7 guitars in my studio. Got this, haven't played any of them since. I don't play metal. An astonishing instrument that I will never sell, many tones available.

Thanks Delvin, as always for the help!

Classy Metal Monster…like the man who created it…

What can I say…this guitar is effing sweet. I hate glossy/shiny finishes for one…and this one has a "matte finish" feel to it that is perfect. The neck is a little thicker than I normally go for and the jumbo frets gold more than enough space for even the biggest of fingers. Now those pickups…holy $&@$… at first I wasn't sure how I felt about them… but after playing for a couple days…it was like they had a warm up period…then all of a sudden you get full on brutality when wide open…but roll back the volume and they become a warm glassy tone that just sounds beautiful. I'm mainly a bridge pickup player but I find myself switching often from the two. Tuning stability is impeccable with the fender locking tuners. My only nitpicking complaint is that the nut is filed a little small for heavier strings (I use Ernie ball power slinky 11s). I use a fret wrap which fixes that issue until I get my luthier to file it for me. All and all this is the best playing/sounding guitar I've ever owned. Highly recommend you get yourself some Jim root flavor and hit add to cart on this one…you won't regret it.
