Two Legendary JUNOs in a Portable Module

Vintage JUNO-60 and JUNO-106 synthesizers are sought-after items — their warm sounds, rich chorus effects, and hands-on creation capabilities are legendary. Now, courtesy of Roland’s JU-06A module, you can get both synths in one reliable, modern instrument. This module is tailor-made for electronic musicians. Use it with a sequencer via USB or MIDI, play it anywhere thanks to battery operation and a built-in speaker, or even use it as an audio interface for a simple production setup. What’s more, it looks like the real deal by virtue of its classic color scheme and styling. If you’re a vintage synth aficionado, then the JU-06A is a must-have item.

Everything you love about the JUNO-60 and JUNO-106

The JU-06A takes everything you love about the JUNO-60 and JUNO-106 and packs it into one convenient module — think of it as a “greatest hits” package. It boasts the 106’s continuous high-pass filter, the 60’s envelope-controllable pulse-width modulation, and the unique filter behavior of both, instantly switchable from the module’s control panel. And the sound is spot-on. Close your eyes, and you won’t be able to distinguish the JU-06A from its vintage predecessors — even while tweaking the controls or using extreme settings. You even get the classic JUNO chorus effect re-created in all its swirling glory.

Portable music production with 16-step, 16-pattern step sequencer

You don’t need an external sequencer or keyboard to have fun with the Roland JU-06A. It packs a 16-step sequencer, which allows you to save up to 16 patterns. And because you can power it with four AA batteries, and it has a built-in speaker, you can sketch out song ideas anywhere. At Sweetwater, we also appreciate the JU-06A’s robust construction — its tough metal panels and metal-shafted sliders feel great and stand up to the rigors of the road.

Roland JU-06A Boutique Series JUNO Sound Module Features:

  • Compact, portable synth module based on the iconic JUNO-60 and JUNO-106 synthesizers
  • Each model instantly switchable from the module’s control panel
  • Ample hands-on control with 17 dedicated sliders

Another Great Boutique Synth from Roland - 2 Synths for ther Price of 1
First, I've been using and programming Synthesizers since 1972 with my first ARP 2600 so I do know my way around most of them.
I never owned the original either the Juno 60 or Juno 106 when they were introduced in 1982 and 1984 respectively. I was too involved with my Yamaha DX7 trying to learn its way too complicated and hidden menu system for creating sounds.
Anyway fast forward again..Roland has hit another home run with the JU06A (their other being the JX-08 which is my pick for the best Boutique in the series). This JU06A is everything that the original Juno60 and 106 were and more.

Pros:
Two Synths for the price of one. Simply Set the Switch to get the more mellow, warmer, deeper sounds of the Juno106 or that Punchy, Aggressive sound of the Juno60
Full set of hands-on controls,
Sound Patch: 64 + 64 (8 patches x 8 banks pre each 60 and 106 mode)
Sequencer Pattern: 16 Steps (Juno 106 and 60 had no Sequencer except External MSQ Keyboard Recorder for the JUNO 106 and JSQ60 for the Juno 60
Arpeggiator (Judo 106 did not have one)
Chord Memory: 16 Steps
JUNO Chorus Effect including that Legendary Noise which is now adjustable so you can keep it under control
No MORe Dead Sound Chips that always needed replacement in the Juno 106
Velocity Sensitive with external Keyboard
Solid Build
Small Footprint (perfect for my Workstation Setup yet still the controls are all very easy to use and not too small)
5 Pin MIDI In/Out
Clock In
USB Port for connection to Power or Computer
Some Great Third Part Sound Packs like the ones from Ultimate Patches
Battery Powered Option - For me not really a big deal
Built in "Speaker" - For me not really a big deal

Cons:

None really except if I want to be picky, like with all of their Boutique Series, Roland should include a USB Cable instead of the cheap set of batteries.
As for Battery use don't expect much more than about 6 hours of use
I think that their K25M Keyboard Dock is over priced, you are better off with any other MIDi Interface/Keyboard from AKAI, Arturia or Novation among other. These will give you much more versatility especially if you have other Synths or Modules.
Music background: Drummer. Former Recording Engineer & Studio owner for over 20 years, Synth player and programmer since 1972.
As advertised!!!
The Roland Boutiques are pretty popular, and having owned the JU-06a for the better part of a year, I now personally know why. What a GREAT little unit! The sounds are top-rate; it has some terrific features (like the sequencer); and in general, is very well-thought out and versatile.
As a strict novice in subtractive synth-sound design, I found this unit to be a GREAT compromise between simplicity/user-friendliness and features/capabilities. I've owned/own other synths that are a little mind-boggling to get your sounds out of. I owned a Behringer DeepMind 12 - (an AMAZING rig!!!) - that was tremendously complex; I felt like I was trying to fly the space shuttle. This unit sort of sticks to the 'basics' - the meat of synth sounds - and leaves the infinitesimal, intricate sound-design controls to the higher-end rigs.
The connectivity/control is also straight-ahead - I simply ran MIDI-out from my other Roland to the MIDI-in of the JU, and now play it through the wonderful keyboard of my big Roland. And I love the small size of the JU - it sits right next to the KB of the big Roland, for easy tweaking'.
If I have anything like con's for the JU, it'd be the teeny controls (makes operating them with my big ham-hands a little harder); and the fact that, while it's will-built, it is definitely more suitable to studio/stationary use than being run around for portable/gig use (which it's small size is suited for). I'd say if you're a "portable" creator/player, you'd want to have some sort of messenger-bag size gig-bag with TWO WELL-padded sections - one for the JU, and the other for a small controller.
I do not have Roland's "dock"/KB for this synth, as it's strictly slaved studio use, so I can't comment on that. But I can say that even as a novice, I DEFINITELY prefer a full-size KB to the teeny 'mini-synth' keys...
Music background: Talented novice? Lame pro player? Who can say???
Riland JU -06A
My first synthesizer was the Juno 60 and I aways regretted selling it so when I saw the Roland had bought it back and included the 106 also I had to buy it and I just love those sounds and its been updated made it easy to included with my set up! If you want those old school sounds you can't go wrong with the JU-06A!!!!!
Classic Juno Sounds
It's wonderful to have access to so many classic Juno sounds in such a small unit at such an amazing price.
The fact that Roland managed to squeeze both the Juno 60 AND 106 into one module is even more amazing.
The icing on the cake is the sequencer which turns this instrument into a potential rhythm and bass backup
for live performance. That, plus the super simple user interface, make it a very useful tool for any application.
Music background: Semi-professional recording artist
fantastic
Great sounds, easy to use, small & portable. I've used this on multiple tracks. It's just too easy to grab and tweak. I love that can be battery powered, allowing me to just grab it, put on some headphones, and quietly explore.
There are a million opinions on a million synths. The important thing is that you use the ones you buy. Roland made using this really easy, so it quickly pays for itself in output.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
