Get Massive Tone from This Semi-acoustic Bass!

The Epiphone Jack Casady Bass lets you explore new sounds and add acoustic dimension to your music. Developed and designed in partnership with Jack, bass player for such groundbreaking bands as Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, this semi-acoustic-electric bass gives you a great mix of clarity, punch, and bite. A hollow cavity gives the Jack Casady Bass a natural woody voice, and a special pickup with a VariTone control lets you dial in a huge range of tones. Finally, this fretless version of Jack's signature bass is ripe for vast harmonic exploration and smoother transitions between notes. Get ready to discover tons of great new sounds with your Epiphone Jack Casady signature bass guitar!

Semi-hollow maple body provides bright attack and resonant acoustic thump

Here's something we don't see every day at Sweetwater: a semi-acoustic bass. What's more, the Jack Casady Bass features a maple back and sides, whose bright and naturally resonant tone compliments the woody thump of its 34-inch-scale bass setup. Even without its killer electronics, all you have to do is listen to the acoustic sound of the Epiphone Jack Casady signature bass to know this is a very special instrument.

Specially designed pickup captures natural bass tone with extra clarity

To capture the full range of the Jack Casady Bass's acoustic bass sound, Epiphone outfitted it with a specially designed low-impedance, low-output humbucker. Not only does this humbucker capture the bass's thump and growl beautifully, but it also gives your sound the kind of clarity you don't typically get from bass pickups.

VariTone control makes dialing in the perfect bass sound as simple as turning a knob

Epiphone's VariTone circuitry is a truly unique beast, and it's part of what makes the Jack Casady Bass such a fun and distinctive instrument to play. The VariTone control lets you dial in the impedance of its active humbucking pickup from approximately 50 ohms to 500 ohms, which seriously affects your sound. As you turn the Jack Casady Bass's VariTone control, you shift its tone from even dynamics and full tone to a punchier response with a narrower sound and plenty of bite. This gives you an absolutely massive sonic palette to play with!

Epiphone Jack Casady Bass Features:

  • The signature fretless bass of Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna), with a wide range of amazing acoustic and electric tones
  • Semi-acoustic laminate maple body adds bite and woody quality to your sound
  • Special low-impedance, low-output humbucker captures full-bodied tone with excellent clarity and definition
  • VariTone impedance shifting circuit lets you dial in a broad spectrum of excellent bass sound

Will it be my new #1?
Excellent bass with terrific tone and playability. Been switching from a Fender Jazz Bass to a fretless Breedlove acoustic/electric depending on the gig, but this offers the light weight of the acoustic with the selectable tone similar to the Jazz (as well as a more acoustic sound as well).

As beautiful as this bass is, I found the large pickguard distracting from the lovely finish. Replaced it with a clear one and gained a look I like.

Versatile, comfortable, gorgeous!

Fretless Jack Casady is PERFECT
I am very pleased with the fretless model of the Jack Casady line. I have owned the fretted version and loved it. Knowing how it sounded, I was considering modding my fretted instrument to fretless. Instead, Epiphone beat me to the punch and built every feature I was wanted (no fret lines, side dots placed where the fingers should go). The unique color is cool and I received many compliments on look & sound of it. I double on upright bass and electric bass, so this was a great entry for me into the electric fretless bass world.

Really Good!
I had a fretted, made in Korea, Olympic White JC bass a few years back. I went down a mod rabbit hole with it that left me frustrated and I sold it. I had major regrets and wanted another one ever since! When I saw this fretless I snapped it up without hesitation. I have been really positively surprised…it has flawless build and finish, great fretless playability even with the stock Gibson flatwound strings (they're not coming off yet), and it sounds amazing. As usual SW service was top notch. If this type of bass is your thing, don't hesitate.
