The Latest Incarnation of the Venerable J Bass

The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass takes a tried-and-true design and complements it with modern updates. The latest incarnation of a groundbreaking instrument, this electric bass guitar boasts a balanced-sounding alder body, which pairs nicely with the classic punch provided by its V-Mod II single-coil pickups. Playing this J Bass is an absolute joy — its fast, comfortable Slim "C"-shaped neck, smooth rolled fingerboard, and sculpted neck heel are guaranteed to elevate your playing. Tapered-shaft tuners and a HiMass vintage bridge round out the American Pro II J Bass’s player-friendly features. The American Pro II Jazz Bass was designed from the ground up to offer you an ideal gigging and recording instrument.

One of the best necks in the business

Many bass players (including a bevy of us here at Sweetwater) believe that J Basses boast some of the best necks ever. And, thanks to its to-die-for Slim "C" shape, the American Pro II Jazz Bass's neck doesn’t disappoint. This ultra-comfortable profile fills your hand perfectly, while leaving enough wiggle room to facilitate effortless playability. The American Professional II Jazz Bass sports smooth rolled fingerboard edges and a Super-Natural satin finish, ensuring that this is one J Bass that you won’t want to put down. You’ll also appreciate the American Pro II J Bass's sculpted neck heel, which provides a comfortable feel and easy access to this electric bass guitar’s upper register.

Simple and effective electronics

Jazz Basses boast a 2-pickup setup, allowing you to pursue diverse tonal variations. The single-coils and the bass's 3-knob setup have been responsible for a wide array of some of the most legendary bass tones in history. The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass sticks close to its heritage with a duet of V-Mod II single-coil pickups. Designed by pickup guru Tim Shaw, these single-coil pickups exhibit the same warmth and clarity as their predecessor, while adding extra articulation and all the J Bass punch you can handle.

Player-friendly appointments

Though the American Professional II Jazz Bass looks and feels like a familiar friend, it's loaded with features that enhance both playability and tone. One of the most notable features is its 4-saddle HiMass vintage-style bridge. This bridge's rigid construction works in concert with this electric bass guitar’s bone nut to transfer more of the string's energy to the body of the instrument, enhancing its sustain and articulation. And the American Pro II Jazz Bass's tapered-shaft tuner design ensures you have optimal break angle and tension on your string posts.

Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass Features:

  • Tried-and-true J Bass design with player-friendly updates
  • 2 V-Mod II single-coil pickups offer classic punch with added articulation
  • Alder body delivers a balanced sound
  • Slim "C" neck profile with Super-Natural satin finish is fast and comfortable
  • Rolled fingerboard edges provide a smooth playing experience
  • Sculpted neck heel provides a comfortable feel and easy access to upper register
  • Tapered-shaft tuners keep proper tension on your string posts
  • HiMass vintage bridge adds sustain and articulation

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While Certified Open Box items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

It's all about that Bass!
Fantastic Bass! I love this Bass. Incredible sound through Fender Rumble 100W Amp. Bass is fairly light as is amp, making for easy transport. Also, Ben is easy to do business with.
Cool Beans, "Sweetwater"!

Can't beat a Fender Jazz Bass
Best ever Bass Guitar!!! Thank You
Music background: Private music production
Reignited Passion
I'm playing as much as I did in my younger days and it's because it is because playing this instrument is such a joy. The neck feels great, the electronics are versatile and responsive, and the sustain is a thing of beauty.
Music background: Two decades playing bass in a variety of ensembles
Smoothest neck I've ever touched
The Maple neck is silky smooth, beautiful body with nice curvature.
On the Mark
As a long time practitioner of stringed instruments; 6/12 string guitar, banjo, mandolin, bouzouki etc.. I never took the time to delve into electric bass on a regular basis. Factually, I started way back when on an upright/double bass and the last P-Bass I played is probably hanging on the wall somewhere in Carol Kayes' garden shed. So, after building my small recording studio as one of my retirement projects, I decided to give it another go and focus on all the richness electric bass has to offer. Watch out Tal Wilkenfeld and Jack Cassidy! well, not really but one can only hope.
Things have come a long way with instrument design and technology, and I can honestly say the Fender Am Pro II J Bass is an absolute pleasure to play. The neck and fingerboard are smooth as silk and fretting while comping with my grandson on tenor sax is effortless. Weather playing finger or slap R&B, I honestly can't put it down! I enjoy simplicity and having the two pick-up, three knob set-up allows for more playing and less fishing for that ideal tone. IMHO worth every penny as I feel Fender definitely hit the mark with this modern version of their iconic J-Bass. As a bonus, the case that's included is just a good as most top of the line travel cases on the market.
And, of course the Sweetwater experience made it all that much, well...Sweeter. With cream of the crop luthiers, my bass was set-up perfectly and tailored to my playing style. Thanks Folks! I'm also blessed to have a long term association with one of the friendliest and knowledgeable senior sales engineers at sweetwater as an adviser, friend and someone with the same passion for "getting things right, because it's the right thing to do!" Thanks Ian!
And a shout out to the folks in shipping without whom I would Never be able to maintain my tempo and meter without a wad of Bit-O-Honey stuffed in my cheek. =;-)
Music background: Rocking at the Jersey Shore
