The Iconic Gibson Everly Brothers J-180
Starting in the late 1950s, the Everly Brothers borrowed stylistic elements from the burgeoning rock ’n’ roll genre and fused them with pop and country influences to forge a sound that would spawn hits and inspire generations of musicians. The Gibson Everly Brothers J-180 acoustic-electric guitar celebrates the musical legacy of Don and Phil Everly with an impeccably handcrafted instrument that will inspire you. An intrinsic component of the Everly Brothers’ sound was the intrepid Gibson Jumbo. Today’s Everly Brothers J-180 features the iconic round-shouldered, narrow-waist Jumbo body constructed of premium solid tonewoods and fitted with stage-ready LR Baggs VTC electronics. The guitar is adorned with a gorgeous gloss ebony finish, a double tortoise Moustache pickguard originally designed with the Everly Brothers for an earlier release, and mother-of-pearl star inlays on the neck and headstock. Everly Brothers fan or not, if you’ve always been enamored by the Gibson Jumbo, now’s your chance to own the real deal!

Quality tonewoods for timeless tone
In handcrafting the Everly Brothers J-180, Gibson’s elite luthiers used only premium solid tonewoods. A top tonewood, Sitka spruce offers a combination of strength and elasticity that delivers a broad dynamic range with crisp articulation that’s ideal for a wide range of playing styles, from delicate fingerpicking to aggressive flatpicked strumming. Maple, known for its assertive brightness, was used for the sides and back. The mahogany neck is capped with a rosewood fingerboard, which, together with the instrument’s Belly Up rosewood bridge, adds a touch of warmth that perfectly offsets the brightness of the maple. These esteemed tonewoods’ acoustical properties coalesce into a powerful sonic elixir that delivers a full, rich tone with robust volume and projection.
Gibson’s legendary Jumbo body
Acoustic guitarists at Sweetwater love Gibson’s legendary Jumbo body style. Descending from Gibson’s large HG Hawaiian guitar of 1929 and the original Jumbo, introduced in 1934, today’s Jumbos are steeped in Gibson tradition and lauded for their pure, rich tones and impressive volume. With smooth lines and a curvaceous shape, Jumbo-style guitars invite a close relationship with their respective guitarists. While Jumbos deliver sonic power similar to the popular dreadnought, their slimmer waist makes these guitars more comfortable to cradle and wrap your arm around.
LR Baggs VTC electronics
The Gibson Everly Brothers J-180 was built for performance with LR Baggs VTC electronics. This under-saddle pickup system is unique in the way it senses the vibrations of your guitar’s spruce top instead of direct string movement. This helps avoid the sharp-sounding “quack” that has been associated with many piezo under-saddle designs. You’ll enjoy a much more natural acoustic-type tone with the VTC system. Finally, its soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls are very low profile and discreet so as not to detract from the beauty of your guitar.
