Advanced Semi-weighted 61-note Controller Keyboard

MIDI-based musicians — are you ready to expand your performance horizons? Sweetwater is excited to introduce the Nektar Impact GXP61. Nektar has created a new instrument category here: an advanced 61-note MIDI controller with full-sized, semi-weighted velocity- and aftertouch-sensing keys and everything else you need in a serious studio or stage controller keyboard. The Impact GXP61 ticks all the boxes — proper pitch and mod wheels; dual-footswitch and expression pedal jacks; selectable velocity curves; 14 RGB LED buttons; 5-pin MIDI out; USB bus power; and more.

Aftertouch for expressive performances

Not every keyboardist needs or wants piano-weighted keys. The Impact GXP61’s newly designed and carefully balanced semi-weighted keyboard action feels great for playing virtual drums, synths, and orchestral instruments as well as piano. And it’s got aftertouch — a rare commodity in this price range — which allows you to lean into your notes for tasty vibrato, filter sweeps, or whatever you have it assigned to. And all this advanced functionality is packed into a sleek, compact, gig-ready lightweight chassis that looks fantastic in your studio or stage rig.

Advanced DAW integration that just works

The Impact GXP61’s streamlined control panel is based on Nektar’s successful Impact GX series, and in keeping with Nektar’s advanced DAW integration philosophy, it offers extended transport control, track selection, and volume control as well as options to open and close DAW windows and navigate songs. For those who have never used a Nektar controller, the best news is that this is all automatic. You simply download and install the free DAW Integration file for your DAW and voilà — everything just works!

Assignable illuminated RGB buttons

What’s more, GXP61’s user interface also has 14 assignable illuminated RGB buttons for direct MIDI program- and bank-selection. Nektar’s new Key Repeat engine adds an intuitive real-time tool for spicing your music with inspired rhythmic patterns. You can control the Repeat feature directly from the GXP61’s illuminated RGB buttons. Once Repeat mode is engaged, the buttons allow for direct selection of Repeat Rates, Accent, Interval, Swing, and routing aftertouch or modulation to velocity. While Repeat is active, the second encoder becomes a dedicated tempo control, unless you’ve set synchronization to external MIDI clock.

Advanced control of your plug-in instruments

Nektarine is a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plug-in that allows advanced Nektar control of your plug-in instruments from Nektar’s flagship Panorama controllers and the Impact GXP61. Nektarine gives the GXP61 powerful master keyboard functionality, with 16 slots for up to 16 VST or AU instrument plug-ins available for simultaneous use. The GXP61 brings instant patch recall to hybrid or entirely software-based keyboard setups with direct patch control from GXP61’s RBG patch buttons and the ability to define keyboard zones, layers, and splits for all hosted plug-ins. You can save your plug-in settings and combinations in a single Multi-patch for recall at the touch of a button. GXP61 works with any MIDI software on macOS, Windows, and iOS and can also be used as a standard MIDI controller for legacy MIDI gear right out of the box.

Best controller I have ever used

I bought two of these to control my twin Yamaha XV-3080's and I LOVE them. Everything about them is nice. Solid, well built, doesn't feal cheap ion any way, marvelous keybed that I'm rapidly getting spoiled on, very versatile with reprogrammable buttons that are a cinch to use. Couldn't be happier. I'm going to buy an 88 just because I love these so much.

Better Than Expected

I am very happy with this purchase. The ease with which I was able to get the keyboard to communicate with my DAW (Logic Pro) was pleasantly surprising. The keyboard functions properly in all respects. I have used it in conjunction with Logic via USB to make recordings, and I have used it via a standard MIDI cable to run a synth. In both cases the GXP 61 performed flawlessly...I wish I could perform as well!

Impact GXP61 is an Excellent Value

I've had several hours using the GXP61 since receiving it and have to give 5 stars for the rating. The keys just feel really good, the action is smooth. Big plus to Nektar for providing 5 different velocity curves to choose from. Being USB compliant made it easy to just connect the keyboard to my laptop, open my DAW, choose the GXP61 (which was immediately recognized), and begin to play. The aftertouch is a really nice bonus. The feel of the semi-weighted keys and the keybed is impressive IMO. Well done Nektar.

Traded up

Originally I ordered a 49 key unit, but after realizing that it was a good match for me, I decided to "Trade-up" to 61 key unit. This particular weighted-key action suites my hands well, so I decided that I would upgrade to the "performance-size" unit rather than just a "controller-size unit.
Sweetwater's return policy is such that you can do this easily and the price range for this particular keyboard makes it a "no-brainer", especially when you just got a Sweetwater credit card with a bonus feature for this keyboard!
It is, as advertised a keyboard that checks "all-the-boxes" when it comes to features. I may just think about looking at their higher-end units in the future.
An all around good deal from Sweetwater.

Might be the best 61-key controller

I bought a GXP88 a year ago, and wasn't going to keep it. Then I disabled the aftertouch and flipped between the velocity curves - and really became a fan of the feel. I ordered a GXP61 as soon as I confirmed that the only difference between the two is the number of keys. Mine came this morning, and it took less than five minutes to set it up exactly like my GXP88. I'm going to keep the GXP88 set up in the middle of my studio, and the GXP61 is going to hit the road starting this weekend.

imho, the GXP-series is best used as live performance keyboards, where lots of program change buttons are more important than faders and knobs. The GXP61 plays like 80s/90s keyboards, but at a fraction of the size and weight.
