Performance-ready Pedal and Master Controller from the Helix Family of Processors

An expanded version of the compact HX Stomp floor processor, the Line 6 HX Stomp XL boasts the same award-winning Helix family pedigree*, but ups the ante by providing eight switches, enhanced MIDI capabilities, and an intuitive pedal editing mode. Like the HX Stomp, the HX Stomp XL serves up eight blocks — amps, cabs, and stomps — per preset, while adding a fourth snapshot per preset for even greater sonic flexibility. Use the HX Stomp XL as a standalone rig or as a command center for your MIDI-enabled gear. And take advantage of its ample I/O to accommodate numerous amp configurations, including 4-cable amp setups. Moreover, the HX Stomp XL contains a 6-switch looper for loop-centric performers, and it’s equipped with a 2-channel expansion jack for expression pedals and additional external switches. What’s more, this House of Worship bundle includes custom downloadable patches from Worshiptutorials.com, the Helix Native amp/FX modeling plug-in, free Helix training from Doug Doppler’s Helix University, and advanced emergency replacement.

*The HX Stomp is powered by a single SHARC ADSP-21469 processor, versus the Helix's two.

128 inspiring presets

Not only does the HX Stomp XL give you 128 presets for real-world gigging applications, but it also comes loaded with heaps of great tones for instant inspiration. Stock presets are organized by instrument (guitar, bass, keys, acoustic) and application (direct to PA, 4-cable amp routing, etc.), which makes it fast and intuitive to dive in and find tones.

4-cable amp integration

Modern ampists rejoice! The HX Stomp XL has integrated support for 4-cable amp integration. This allows you to front load your FX loop-equipped guitar head with stomps traditionally reserved for the front end of an amp (drives, EQs, filters, wahs, and fuzzes), and back-end effects that tend to sound best after an amp's preamp section (delay, reverb, and modulation). Not only that, but several of the HX Stomp XL's presets are also preconfigured for the 4-cable method, which provides a pre-routed template from which to create custom patches.

Exhaustive I/O

The HX Stomp XL is much more than a multi-effects amp modeler. Though it can easily replace your current board into the front end of your amplifier, it also boasts enough I/O and control to take the lead in even the most complex guitar setups. Here's what you get:

  • Stereo TS ins and balanced TRS outs minimize noise into guitar and pro-level gear
  • FX loop lets you incorporate your favorite stomps anywhere in your chain
  • MIDI in/out for traditional MIDI switchers or advanced performance integration
  • TRS expression pedal/footswitch jack lets you connect up to two external expression pedals (volume and wah, for example) or expand your switching options by two
  • USB connection for computer-based patch management and effortless firmware updating

Capacitive touch footswitches

Following Helix's lead, the HX Stomp XL boasts eight capacitive touch footswitches and a Helix-inspired pedal edit mode makes designing and recalling presets easier than ever. Simply touch the switch you want to adjust, make the necessary changes, and save. It couldn't be simpler. The HX Stomp XL allows four snapshots per preset and seamlessly switches between them to add tasty variations to spice up an arrangement. And to keep track of your tones and changes, Line 6 outfitted each of the switches with bright color-coded LEDs. No matter how dark or bright the stage is, you'll always know what function each footswitch is controlling.

Expansive MIDI capabilities

As a standalone rig, the HX Stomp XL astounds. Yet, it can also serve as the command center for complex, MIDI-enabled rigs. The HX Stomp XL boasts no less than 102 customizable controllers via MIDI-CV for foot-tappable control over external pedal stacks, amp channel switching, preset selection, and much more. Additionally, you can sync all of your time-based devices via the onboard tap tempo switch. Integrating a sprawling performance setup is a cinch with the HX Stomp XL.

Multichannel USB interface

You can dramatically streamline your recording setup with the Line 6 HX Stomp XL on your studio desk. Dialing in tones is as fast and intuitive as onstage. Meanwhile, USB connectivity and future-looking 24/96 headroom and clarity preserve your recordings for later generations to enjoy.

True bypass switching

For picky pedalists, the HX Stomp XL makes a truly board-worthy stompbox. True bypass switching eliminates unwanted coloration between your other stomp effects, so you can integrate the HX Stomp XL's advanced pedal, amp, and cab models into your setup with the quality of your signal intact.

Third-party cab IR support

The HX Stomp XL includes support for third-party cab IRs. Now fresh tones and inspiration will always be just a click away.

A proud part of the Helix family

With the entire library of models from the Helix family at your behest, you'll never be at a loss for tone with the HX Stomp XL. All effects and models are processed through the HX audio engine, ensuring every single swell of a modulation effect, overdrive response, or delay decay feels convincingly like the unit it's modeling. Take your place at the Helix family table with the easy-traveling Line 6 HX Stomp XL from Sweetwater.

Great pedal

I got the Stomp HX XL after getting the HXStomp, the extra switches are awesome. I gave theHX stomp to my son who uses it with acoustic guitar sitting on his desk. The XL is an amazing piece of work. The models are dead on, amps and effects, snapshot mode stomp mode all so useful, why didn't I get this years ago?

Possibly the best piece of music equipment I've ever purchased!

Pros: Access to 100's of excellent pedal, amp, and cab simulations
Lots of flexibility in programming the amp and effect models
Amp simulations are good enough for playing in bands
Editing software is easy to use and works well
Lots of 3rd party presets available for download. Some of the best presets I've found were free!

Cons: Amp simulations not quite the real thing
Wish the footswitches were 1" – 2" further apart, but I've learned to navigate the tight spaces

Digital modeling technology has gotten to the point where I can cost effectively replace my analog pedal board. Although most purists would note that the amp simulations are not as good as the real thing, these less than perfect simulations usually get me closer to the sounds I need to emulate than the tube amp and pedal arsenal I had before and for me that's a big win! What I like the most about the Stomp XL is that it's like having 50 different guitar amps! I have discovered simulations for amps I have never played before that I now love and use. The cab simulations are plentiful and are also key to optimizing the amp sounds.

The effects are really good. I can stack two or three digital delays and either run them in series or parallel. I now have access to many amazing reverbs and choruses that allow for me to quickly dial in sounds I could never achieve before. There are lots of useful OD and distortion pedals and if you have a favorite pedal or two that isn't modeled or the model isn't close enough to the real thing, you can plug your pedals into the signal chain and use them with the unit. I have found so many good effects to use, I still haven't gotten around to trying every effect. The EQ's and compressors are also a step up from what I had. The free worship bundle was OK. There were a few presets that were interesting and that I ended up using, but I found myself usually creating the effects I needed on the fly.

I find the computer interface intuitive and easy to use, it's the best way to go for any serious editing. If I need to make minor tweaks to a preset and don't feel like firing up my laptop, the knobs and buttons on the unit can do the job.

I play on a CCM worship team at church and can say that the Stomp XL works well in live situations. No longer does the keyboard player need to drone a patch for a few seconds while I frantically change my effect pedal settings for the next song! During the first few days I owned the Stomp XL, I kept my foot pedals nearby to do some A/B comparisons. Now my pedals live in a box. I could sell them, but I plan to keep them around as a backup in case my Stomp XL goes down. After spending more than 30 years in the analog world, I have made the switch to digital and don't plan to go back!

Great hardware, poor interface

I moved to this from a Line 6 XT live. Very similar in goals but more powerful. I enjoy the sounds but am constantly relearn the manual interface. I'm not a Windows or Mac user so everything I do in from the unit itself. Once you think you understand something you discover you cannot repeat the setup. The manual is typical Line 6 and is not helpful TO ME. I'm sure it is written toward someone but it makes no logical sense. I am an embedded software/hardware designer so I'm used to front panel setups. It is just that Line 6's mindset is not logical top to bottom.

Would I buy again? Yes, Sweetwater had a good price and their support is great. As long as I have Google I can usually fine someone to describe how to do something. The YouTube videos are not that helpful as most simple how to videos are based on the older unit. Most YouTube video for this newer unit is mainly "Let me show/sell you my patch" and are based on the PC Stomp editor.

Great hardware. Poor documentation or help from Line 6

I bought this unit the end of May. It probably has less than 2 hours on it. Very steep learning curve and no help from Line 6. Their VIDs are nice but are impossible to find. There is no ordering of the VIDS. More of the shotgun effect. Also user VIDS are really there to show off their patches that you can pay and download. They do NOT have a real User Manual. A User Manual should step you through device with a new fact built on a previous fact. They have a Reference Manual which is great for looking something up IF your name for it and Line 6s name matches.

Currently my HX Stomp XL is setting in the closet. I believe I'm even a few revs behind (another dropped ball from Line 6). Instead when playing our or at church I will use my old Line 6 XT Live. I've started using a Spark 40 and actually it gives me ALL the basic stuff I need and can easily find.

Sweetwater has been great. It is NOT their faults that some customers do not like the product after received.
Music background: Playing string instruments over 40 years. Currently playing at church and local gigs.

Most of the guitarists here at Sweetwater remember well the first time we heard a Line 6 POD - that strange kidney-bean-shaped gadget that totally rocked the guitar world. As one of the world's largest Line 6 dealers, we've had a first-row seat to every groundbreaking release they've come out with. In fact, many of us gig out with Helix, their latest multi-effects pedal, or their modeling amps every week. What's more, Line 6 brings the same innovative approach to their live sound equipment that's made their guitar gear so popular. Whether you're looking for the perfect guitar rig to cover a wide range of styles or fantastically affordable digital wireless, ask your Sales Engineer about Line 6.
