A Killer 1 x 12" Cab for Your Modeling Rig!

If you rock out with guitar amp modelers, then chances are, you don't actually need a traditional guitar amplifier at all. What you need is a Mission Engineering Gemini amplifier, like this Gemini 1. The Gemini 1 combines a 1 x 12" speaker cabinet with an efficient 110-watt digital power amplifier that you can connect to virtually anything. A set of coaxial speakers accommodate full-range amplification, but you can choose a more guitar-cab-like EQ setting for a smoother sound. Cooler still, analog and USB digital I/O provide you with a host of configuration options, making the Gemini 1 a perfect match for your amp modeler or computer rig.

Full range or guitar-amp range - it's your choice!

Several of the guitarists at Sweetwater were among the first to ditch their traditional guitar amplifiers and make the switch to some sort of amp modeler and a PA system. Full-range PAs are particularly great when you want to play along to backing tracks or use a wilder set of effects. But we found that the added highs can run a bit harsh when you're going after more organic guitar tones. That's why we love the Gemini 1's EmPower EQ control, which allows you to blend between a flat EQ curve or a more typical guitar cab's present mids and rolled off highs. Between its 12" driver and its 1" coaxial tweeter, the Mission Engineering Gemini 1 lets you dial in the exact tonal response you need.

Ultra-flexible analog and digital I/O provide tons of options

Here's another way the Gemini 1 departs from other guitar-cabinet-style powered speakers: it packs some mighty impressive I/O options. For starters, there's a single XLR combo jack onboard for your analog gear. Thanks to Mission Engineering's PresenceDetect technology, the Gemini 1 can tell if the incoming signal is mono or stereo. If the input is stereo, the Gemini sums it to mono, unless you've daisy-chained a second Gemini 1 to it - yeah, you can do that! There's also USB onboard for playback from your computer or other USB audio gear. And you can mix the USB and analog inputs together, making it super easy to play over backing tracks.

Roadworthy birch cabinet you won't regret taking onstage

As convenient as plastic PA speakers may be to schlep around, nothing packs the punch of a real wood cabinet, which is why we're sure you're going to love the solid sound of the Gemini 1's 3/4" void-free baltic birch cabinet. Covered in high-quality black Tolex and a basketweave speaker cover, this Mission Engineering cabinet doesn't just sound right onstage, it looks like it belongs there too. And if you're rocking an Eleven Rack or a rackmount version of the Kemper Modeling Amp, you can always stick it in a matching Gemini H 19 rack head (sold separately) and you'll have a matched set.

Mission Engineering Gemini 1 Powered 1 x 12" Speaker Cabinet Features:

  • The perfect powered cabinet for your guitar amp modeling rig
  • 1 x 12" guitar cabinet with 110-watt Class D power amplifier onboard
  • 1" coaxial high-frequency compression driver provides full-range sound from 57Hz to 20kHz
  • EmPower EQ control allows blending between a flat or traditional guitar cab frequency response
  • XLR combo jack provides analog input for your amp modeler
  • PresenceDetect technology automatically detects a mono or stereo input signal
  • Automatically determines master/slave chaining for stereo operation with second Gemini amp
  • High-speed USB connection provides input for up to 24-bit/192kHz digital signal
  • Use both analog and USB inputs simultaneously to play over backing tracks
  • Cabinet is handmade from 3/4" void-free baltic birch
  • Finished with black Tolex, black basketweave speaker covering, and chrome hardware

Better Than Expected

I've been using this over a year now with my Kemper. Not only does it give an accurate representation of the profiles but it feels like a real amp. It sounds better than my real tube amps. It's full and deep and the way the tweeter is mounted in the center of the speaker you can mic it if you need to. I had a sound guy at a venue with bad electricity and the Kemper direct was giving a buzz and we couldn't stop it even messing with all the grounds so he mic'd up my cabinet because it was dead quiet and it sounded great. I got a lot of compliments on my tone. I compared the tone of the Gemini to my studio monitors and it was nearly identical. Also, the tone is much deeper than any other single 12 inch speaker I've ever heard.

Gemini > friedman

This frfr sounds fantastic. Feels like your playing through a real amp paired with helix. I previously tried a Friedman asc and it does not compare to the sounds you get from this. You will not be disappointed in this

Fantastic FRFR

I've been using the Mission Engineering Gemini 1 for the past year. I have had the greatest experience with this FRFR cabinet and it is the perfect companion to my Line 6 Helix.

This thing gets more than loud enough for full band arrangements and has an amazingly flat response across all frequencies. This is even great for bass or keyboard players.

I cannot recommend this enough. Well worth it.

Good for guitar, bad for bass

For guitar, this is a great FRFR cab. Not enough power to handle bass though (but I think this is the case for pretty much all FRFR cabs sadly).

PROs
Great clean sound
Can get loud enough for medium sized venues for guitar

CONs
Fan can be noisy
Requires a good power conditioner or you"ll get some nasty noise
The loud "pop" when you turn it on
Not enough power to drive a bass.. found this out at a gig. Couldn"t hear myself at all

Beware using with PC

I bought this to use for live performance with S-Gear and a PC laptop.

Although I can get it to work with my iMac, I cannot get it to work with a PC and I've tried two different laptops (one with Windows 7 the other with 8.1) Mission Engineering support has tried to help and said they were able to get it working by ensuring the S-Gear had exclusive use of the MI supplied driver. But following their instructions still did not resolve the issue and as of now I cannot use this cabinet for live performance as intended.

For use with a Mac I would give it 4 stars, but it appears that they have not got the bugs out on the PC side.
