Duo Jet for a New Generation

From the Gretsch Professional Collection comes a cutting-edge update of the company's vintage classic electric guitar to fuel a new generation of guitarists looking to take their music into the future. The Gretsch G6228 Player's Edition Duo Jet combines the harmonic resonance of a chambered mahogany body and maple top with the sonic potency of Gretsch's full-spectrum Broad’Tron BT65 humbuckers and the stability of their V Stoptail to deliver a staggering range of tone. From shimmery cleans to beastly overdrive, your wish is this Duo Jet's command.

Chambered Mahogany body for harmonically rich tone

For the G6228 Player's Edition Duo Jet Gretsch, Gretsch starts with a select 1.85”-thick mahogany body and maple top combo that delivers strong, balanced midrange. Strategic body chambering provides smooth attack and extended, harmonically lush bandwidth while reducing weight — which you'll definitely appreciate during marathon gigs! This chambered tonewood recipe, key to the classic Duo Jet sound, serves as the tonal foundation to which Gretsch adds a pair of remarkable humbucking pickups.

Broad’Tron BT65 pickups for power and fidelity

The G6228 Player's Edition Duo Jet is powered by Gretsch's outstanding Broad’Tron BT65 pickups. Designed by renowned pickup guru Tim Shaw, the BT65 harnesses this guitar’s broad sonic range and flawlessly delivers its extended lows, powerful mids, and smooth, clear high end in a masterful display of full-spectrum fidelity and wall-shaking power. You'll find the Player's Edition Duo Jet has you covered for any genre-hopping live gig or recording session. From sparkling cleans to brutal overdrive — and all tonal colors in between — everything's on the menu. Guitarists at Sweetwater love these pickups. We're sure you will, too.

The hardtail Duo Jet: a unique beast

If you're a hardtail player, Duo Jets have likely been off your radar due to their ubiquitous vibrato tailpieces. The Gretsch G6228 Player's Edition Duo Jet changes all that with an axe that gives you all the tuning stability and tonal solidity of Gretsch's anchored Adjusto-Matic bridge and V Stoptail — a design that pays visual as well as sonic dividends. With its excellent pickups, chambered body, and V Stoptail, the Player's Edition Duo Jet serves up an incredibly broad tonal palette as suitable for progressive metal and jazz fusion as it is for country and rock.

update...

I have found over time...that what you purchase and play at home...can differ greatly when playing with your mates. Our little band...Sky's the Limit-Indy...has over a few years developed a sound we enjoy very much. It leans toward clean, with a touch of grit as needed..we have two guitars, bass and drum and female vocalist....during most of that time I have played a 2004 Ash Tele'...wonderful instrument..However, at times I need a bit more bite...so my pedals have helped in that department. Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive handles that department. Last evening we got to practice again...this time I brought the Gretsch G6228 and played through my AC15x...all my worries melted away as I could dial in a very pleasant tone that was a bit gritty ,yet not so overly saturated that you couldn't figure out what notes were being played. We practiced for about four hours and it was a blast experimenting with the different tones this Jet produces. As I mentioned in my previous review, I had a Gold Top...wanting the single coil P90s...to produce the sound I heard in my head...not so for me. Plenty of grunt..but lacking a broad tone..This instruments, has all the power one needs...but a great wide array of sounds. The Broad'Tron pick ups are appropriately named.

very pleasant surprise....

I've owned three Gretsch's over my life time...all from the sixties, two of the three had neck issues...but the sound was wonderful. Seven years ago I purchased a Gretsch G6119-1962HT Chet Atkins Tennessee Rose from Sweetwater. I was impressed with the high level of quality in this instrument...and I have had no issues with it whatsoever. This model the G6228 with the newer Broad'tron pick ups interested me...and I wanted to try one...No one in Indianapolis has it in there stores.!!Now the less costly ones they do...but not this model. So knowing...I could return it...made me take the leap, having just sold my 2015 Gold Top with P90s...This instrument is so different...it has great and pleasant clean tones, it can crunch without the PAF mud...and it can get loud, if needed.I play it through a modified Deluxe Reverb with Weber speaker added, and a Vox AC15 with Celestion Blue. So far so good. My sales Rep Dan Moore..did a wonderful job in getting this instrument overnighted to my door...even though his wife was was having their first baby boy !!!!
