Check Out This Thunderous Beast!

AC/DC's Malcolm Young has been described as "driving, deafening, and totally unstoppable" — his muscular riffs have cemented his place in the pantheon of esteemed rock 'n' roll rhythm guitarists for all time. The Professional G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet re-creates Mal's gutted ’63 Gretsch Jet Firebird, right down to the aged finish, tour-worn feel, and "DIY" pickup routes. Pick it up, and thunderous riffs will abound, thanks to a TV Jones Power'Tron bridge humbucker. And enjoy effortless playability, by way of a Standard U-shaped neck with a bound 12"-radius ebony fingerboard. The Malcolm Young Signature Jet includes a Space-Control bridge, a bone nut, and Schaller die-cast tuners.

Chambered mahogany body for harmonically rich tone

For the Professional G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet, Gretsch starts with a select 2"-thick mahogany body that delivers tremendous warmth and resonance. Strategic body chambering provides smooth attack and extended, harmonically lush bandwidth while reducing weight — which you'll definitely appreciate during marathon gigs! This chambered design, key to the Malcolm Young Signature Jet's thunderous sound, serves as a tonal foundation that's then given a high-dose amphetamine injection by the guitar's lone humbucking pickup. Here at Sweetwater, we've been playing this guitar through a cranked amp stack almost non-stop — it's that addictive! So many killer riffs, so little time...

Beefy TV Jones Power'Tron pickup

The Professional G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet is powered by a TV Jones Power'Tron pickup. TV Jones Power'Trons meld the smooth, silken voice of a golden-age PAF with the rockabilly twang of the late-'50s/early-'60s Filter'Tron. This humbucker boasts a full body and clear top end that dynamic players are sure to enjoy. Digging in reveals a chunky low-end breakup that sounds great through a tube amp. The secret is a narrow bobbin aperture that keeps bass notes tight and punchy, along with specially spaced pole screws for clean note separation from string to string. Compared to a TV Classic, the Power'Tron is darker and somewhat gnarlier, with more windings — as much as a PAF humbucker — for hotter output.

"The Beast" is unleashed

The Professional G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet is a meticulous re-creation of Malcolm's ’63 Gretsch Jet Firebird, a.k.a. "The Beast." It not only employs a thin-skin semi-gloss finish for a tour-worn feel, but it also comes fully loaded with Gretsch's patented Space-Control bridge on an ebony base, along with eye-popping "G" arrow knobs and a '60s Jet Vibrato tailpiece. You also get "DIY" pickup routes with simulated screw holes, just like Malcolm's original. Add to that eye-catching Neo-Classic thumbnail fingerboard inlays and aged-white binding, and you've got yourself one killer instrument. So strap the Malcolm Young Signature Jet on your shoulder — you'll not only be making music, but you'll also be making a fashion statement.

Malcolm Young's actual '63 Gretsch, along with his trademark stack of amps.

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. From our online Guitar Gallery that allows you to see and select the exact instrument you want to our 55-point Inspection process and our in-house guitar techs, we take the guesswork out of buying your next guitar online.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from Gretsch do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Gretsch Malcolm Young

As an avid AC/DC fan and an average guitarist I wanted a guitar that would give me the AC/DC Malcolm Young thunderous tone! This Gretsch Malcolm Young Signature Model nails it! The playability, tone, attention to detail with the looks and sound is second none! This is a spectacular guitar. I fell in love with it the minute I unpacked it! Add the amazing service and customer care from Sweetwater and my tech Mike Godlove and the whole experience of purchasing this guitar was nothing short of amazing!

Wow

First of all, Chris at Sweetwater is fantastic. Chris has been helping me on my musical journey over the last 5 years. My friends all play in an AC/DC / Judas Priest Tribute band (Priest /DC) and Chris has been there time and time again to help. My first guitar purchase from Chris was the 1961 Reissue Gretsch Duo Jet and it has served me well over the past 2+ years. When I heard about the new Malcolm signature series, given what I play I had to have it. I just emailed Chris a few months ago, Chris put me on the list if there's a list. He replied back..Yep...you're on it! Ok....waiting game now. Yesterday Chris called...Ken, I got it and I just emailed pictures, are you still interested? Oh man....I wasn't expecting the "call" till November, but yeah..I want it. It's Thursday...who doesn't want a new guitar on Friday for the weekend? Chris said it was all ready to ship, so no sweat, it's on the way. It arrived an hour or so ago, and after some pictures for my friends, downstairs to the band room I went to plug it in. In my ears, the song I hear when I want to define Malcolm's tone (particularly early on) it's Overdose. So after a min to figure out all the knobs, I cracked the strings one by one....perfectly in tune from shipment, completely dialed in. And the tone? Oh yeah...it was biting and awesome. It just sounds so freaking amazing. My 61 Reissue is great...but this...wow. Hence the title. If you love Malcolm and want to play for fun or you play AC/DC songs in your band....You'll turn heads and ears with this guitar.
