The Definitive Modern British-voiced Guitar Speaker

Celestion's V-Type is the definitive modern British-voiced speaker — sweet and warm, with enough vintage-tinged growl to remind you that it's a Celestion. The G-12 New V-Type delivers this familiar sound, but eschews its predecessor's heavy ceramic magnet for a lightweight neodymium one. At Sweetwater, we've found this guitar speaker to exhibit an incredibly balanced sonic signature. Clean, it's superbly clear and defined, with a pleasing upper-midrange chime and gentle high-frequency sparkle. Driven, it absolutely sizzles — your leads will sear and sing with a level of articulation and note separation that will satisfy even the most discerning of players. If you want to reinvigorate your guitar amplifier, the lightweight Celestion G-12 New V-Type will inject it with a vintage-modern British tone that's guaranteed to please.

Celestion G-12 New V-Type Speaker Features:

  • 12-inch vintage-modern British-voiced speaker
  • Neodymium magnet is almost 50% lighter than its predecessor's ceramic one
  • Yields a superbly balanced tonal signature that imparts a vintage musicality to your tone
  • Clean sounds are clear and defined, with a pleasing upper-midrange chime and gentle high-frequency sparkle
  • Overdriven sounds sear and sing, with out-of-this-world articulation and note separation

Great Speakers

These speakers were used to replace the speakers in my Boss Katana MkII 2x12. The intent was to lighten up the amp because I was sick of hauling that heavy ass thing around... Well it shaved about 6 or 7 pounds of the amp and changed the sound. It hard to explane the new sound but it just sounds good. Clearer. These speakers are great and dont cost much for the brand and neo magnets they use. I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants to reduce wieght and or upgrade their speakers.

Light weight, killer sound

I bought this for a custom tube amp I built, primarily for its light weight. It indeed is light but also has a rich sound to it. I'm using this speaker for all my future builds and will eventually retrofit it into other cabinets. It's amazing

Sweet Tone!

Replaced a stock V-Type in a Fender Bassbreaker 30R with this neo V-Type to save a few pounds - it's definitely lighter and the tone is similar but maybe just a tad smoother (I typically play with a higher gain sound) - really digging it at practice volume - haven't tried it live yet, but seems like it should work well in a full band club setting - Josh at Sweetwater was super helpful with my purchase!

Celestion G-12 Neo V-Type

Ok....first let me say I've never been a fan of Celestion speakers. In every amp I've had in the last 10 years I've always gravitated to Jensen to get the tone I was looking for. About a year ago I bought the Fender Twin Tone Master which comes with the Jensen Neo speakers and it sounds great. So when I sold my Tube 65 Deluxe Reverb RI, I decided to buy The Deluxe Reverb Tone Master, and at 72 years old, with a not so good back, you'll understand why. I got the Blonde version open box from Sweetwater, thanks to Jim Watson at a great price. I played it in a live un-miked situation a couple of times and it sounded good BUT with the creamback neo, it had a little too much fizz on the high end and I couldn't turn the bass past 4 without it booming . So I tried the Jensen Neo in it, which sounds great in the Twin, so why not. Well it was ok but that little bit of growl, for lack of a better word, wasn't there. The bass was tight and the treble smooth, no fizz, but it just wasn't the right sound for this amp, to me. So....I listened to some videos of the Celestion Neo V-Type and since Jim Watson said I could return it if I didn't like it, I ordered one. Well all I have to say is Fender should have put this speaker in the Blonde DR to start with. The fizz and the boom are gone and playing the amp on the 12 watt setting with the volume, treble, and bass all set on 5 it sounds great. So I highly recommend this speaker if you are thinking of replacing the Creamback or even the Jensen if you have the black version amp. And even in the tube DRRI to make it a little lighter. I can't say enough about Sweetwater's service and fast shipping. And Jim Watson, you're not getting this speaker back! Thanks!

Smooth pleasing tone

I bought this to tame the little bit of fizz in my new Boss Katana II, as well as make it lighter for my retired bones to carry. Does the job! It's a 70 watt speaker, and the amp puts out 100 watts, but I'll never push it that hard. I usually leave the amp at the 50-watt setting.

Tone is warm and round yet clear enough to cut through the band.
3 1/2 pounds or so lighter than the Katana speaker - noticeable improvement, though the stock amp is pretty light on its own.
Clean tones are as chimey as the Katana speaker, as well as my Fender Deluxe Tonemaster, but it doesn't get harsh when sending it hi-gain tones.
