Magical Multi-voice P-90 Tones Conjured by Greg Koch

Fishman artist and six-string wizard Greg Koch has garnered a well-deserved reputation as one of today's finest contemporary pickers, masterful technicians, and respected guitar clinicians. Fishman previously tapped Greg for their wildly popular Gristle-Tone Telecaster pickup set, and now they’ve reconvened to put Greg’s madcap spin on the P-90. The Fishman Fluence Greg Koch Gristle-Tone Signature P-90 pickup set presents a panoply of drool-inducing P-90 sounds, from jangly clean tones to muscular overwound-coil punch. What’s more, the Gristle-Tone Signature P-90 pickup set employs an active pickup design to eliminate noise without sacrificing a single drop of tone, and they run off a 9V battery or the optional Fishman universal rechargeable battery pack for up to 60 hours of continual performance. Satisfy all of your P-90 tonal needs with the Greg Koch Gristle-Tone Signature P-90 pickup set from Fishman!

Three distinctive P-90 tones per pickup

For ultimate flexibility, the Greg Koch Gristle-Tone Signature P-90 pickup set leverages Fishman’s Fluence core technology to serve up three distinct voicings per pickup. In the neck position, you have access to an underwound, aged P-90 tone, a fat overwound tone with crisp highs, and a classic single-coil tone with bell-like clarity. Hop over to the bridge, and you’re treated to a vintage P-90 tone with a heaping helping of honk, a brawling overwound P-90 tone, and a shimmering single-coil tone. The voices can be accessed by any number of standard switches or push-pull controls, and they can be added as a completely reversible modification to most guitars.

All the vintage tone, none of the noise

Greg Koch has made a huge name for himself with the sound of vintage single-coil pickups. But vintage single-coils often bring with them hum, buzz, and inductance issues. Fishman Fluence pickups use an active design to send a low-impedance signal, allowing you to run long cable runs with no signal loss. And you won't experience any signal loading when working your volume knob for cleaning up your guitar's tone. Best of all, you can run these pickups as hot as you want with no 60-cycle hum or interference.

Contains all you need for installation

Fishman Fluence is a revolutionary new way to look at the art of pickup building. To deliver their wide range of tones, noise-free performance, and low-impedance signal, these pickups require a power source and specially designed pots. All of this is included with every pickup. Inside the package, you'll find the pickups, wiring, push-pull and standard 25k potentiometers that are ideal for the active circuitry, and more. Guitarists at Sweetwater attest that installing a set of Fishman Fluence pickups is a quick and easy way to achieve your electric guitar's full potential!

Fluence Greg koch P-90s

I always stayed away from P-90s due to the noise factor. These pickups are quiet! Lots of options when it comes to tone. Great job Greg and Fishman. I bought this cheap guitar because it has a spaulted maple top. It now has become number 3 of my favorite guitars to play. Thank you

Spectacular tone…

I have these and several of my guitars, from a Paul Reed Smith, SE soap bar, two and Eastwood Revolta VII. The tone is exceptional. I have always been a fan of soap, bars, but what time, of course comes the inherent noise… not anymore! These are dead, quiet, and it is such a pleasure to gig with any guitar equipped with these. The big bonus, however, is the three distinct voicings! You can go from totally clean to a really fat hot soap bar sound, and of course the regular beautiful soap bar sound in between. IMHO, soap, bars are the ideal pick ups. They are like a Strat, or a telecaster on steroids. Clean and shiny when you wind them down, and brutally powerful in the mid range when cranked up, they cut through a mix perfectly in my opinion, and can work well in virtually any style of music. The fact that these have the three voicings makes him even more versatile and completely useful. I would not hesitate to replace any soap or pick up any guitar. I had with the son of these…
Music background: I’ve been playing since age 6… that’s 57 years… I’ve played professionally, making my living through music , but now it’s just a wonderful hobby.

Crystal clear and quiet!

Just wow. I wanted a p90 guitar for a long time so I bought an epiphone les paul special used for super cheap. The pickups just weren't doing it for me though. I like quiet coils and when I read about these pickups I knew I was in for a treat. Not only did I get to watch Greg's incredible playing while reviewing the pickups, I heard just how versatile the different voicings make these puppies. I knew right then I had to buy these. Wiring them myself was a learning process that took about 6 hours (my first time) but once they were in I was blown away. I was playing a guitar that cost me just over 600 dollars that was outperforming some of my $3k-4k guitars! The single coil setting is so convenient, no more switching guitars in between songs. My only gripe is the battery but that comes with the territory with active pickups and I wouldn't trade these for anything. These pickups seriously changed my life!

Fluence P90’s

I give these 3 stars because of the pots included with the set. If you're putting these in a LP the pits that come with the set will not work. You'll need to contact Fishman and spend an additional $ on long shaft pots to be able to install these. Fishman should offer a version of each set with 3/8" bushing long shaft pots for LP installations. Also the pots included are pretty poor quality. The push pull pots that came with my set spin all the way around with no end stop. The pickups them selves sound great once the correct hardware is obtained.

Want to make your guitar sound its best? Take it from the lifelong performers at Sweetwater and check out Fishman. If you've bought an acoustic-electric guitar, there's a good chance it came with Fishman electronics, but it's easy enough to upgrade your favorite instrument too - just ask the pros in Sweetwater's Guitar Repair Shop. Do you perform? Are you a singer/songwriter? We'd love to turn you on to Fishman's Loudbox amps and amazing pedals. But Fishman isn't limited to acoustic electronics. Many of us have tricked out our electric guitars with Fishman Fluence pickups and TriplePlay wireless MIDI systems too.
