The Classic Semi-hollowbody Electric

The Gibson ES-335 Satin is the quintessential Gibson ES (Electric Spanish) guitar. The first “thinline” archtop of its kind, the historic ES-335 is considered the standard for semi-hollowbody guitars to this day. With impeccable sounds across its wide-ranging tonal palette, the ES-335 can be found in the hands of jazz, blues, and rock players all over the globe. For 2020, Gibson brings the ES-335 Satin to you with all the same exquisite craftsmanship and detailed appointments that made the original a smash hit when it was introduced in 1958. And as a central feature, it features a satisfyingly rounded C neck profile that harkens back to Gibson’s vaunted instruments of the late 1950s.

One of a kind

From its first appearance in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 set an unmatched standard for playability, and today’s ’335 Satin carries on the tradition. The pearloid dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard hand-rolled on a rounded C mahogany neck feels incredible and invites hours of playing every time you pick up the instrument. Gibson’s Calibrated T-Type humbucking pickups are paired with the company’s handwired control assembly. The result is the immensely versatile Gibson ES tone that guitarists have craved for over six decades. Precise intonation and tuning stability are provided by Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons, paired with a lightweight aluminum ABR-1 bridge and Stopbar tailpiece.

Quality tonewoods, superb electronics

This ’335 also features a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple top and back, while a solid maple center block and a premium mahogany neck make up the rest of the quality tonewoods used in this superb guitar. The center block — a new concept when it was first seen in ’58, gives you the warm tonal characteristics of an archtop jazz guitar along with the sustain and feedback-resistance of a solidbody when playing at higher volumes. For blazing amplified sound, the ES-335 Satin comes with T-Type humbucking pickups and custom tone circuitry, giving you a massive range of stylistic options for performance.

Legendary tone from T-Type humbuckers

Tonal excellence is yours when you plug the Gibson ES-335 Satin into your favorite tube amplifier. Loaded with a pair of calibrated T-Type humbucking pickups, each with its own volume and tone controls, you’ll be able to dial in chiming country tones as easily as savagely distorted rock tones. The neck pickup gives you classic hollowbody-style tones for everything from jazz to dirty blues. Flip to the bridge position, and you’ll command sounds covering everything from bright and clean to raw and mean. The guitar gurus here at Sweetwater all concur: playing this guitar is a sublime experience.

Plek’d frets for optimized playability

Comfort and playability were two of Gibson’s primary concerns when they were designing the ES-335 Satin. You’ll be delighted at how this guitar’s rounded C neck profile comfortably fills your hand in just the right way. For your playing pleasure, the rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness and bound with rolled edges so no fret ends impede your dexterity. The frets are dressed to perfection using a Plek Pro machine for optimized playability. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you’re likely to own.

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. From our online Guitar Gallery that allows you to see and select the exact instrument you want to our 55-point Inspection process and our in-house guitar techs, we take the guesswork out of buying your next guitar online.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Great 335 and Excellent Customer Service

Purchased this guitar a while ago as a Sweetwater Demo. This is everything you would want from a 335. Both the neck and bridge pickups are warm but clear, no mud at all. Excellent for Rock, Blues and Jazz. Fit and finish are first class. Guitar is light weight. This is a permanent guitar in my collection. Zac was my sales rep and I did have one issue with the guitar. The volume knob on the treble pickup would wobble some when turned. I did not put much thought into it for quite some time. After a while, the knob broke off and needed replacement. The other issue with the same volume pot was the taper was off. To roll back the volume you have to go back to 2 or 3 which is not like the neck pickup which is much more responsive. I called Zac recently and he immediately turned me over to customer support. The tech that helped me sent me a new factory Gibson volume pot and a complete set of knobs without any hassle. They even offered to pay for my Luthier to repair. And, I received the replacement parts over night shipping. Wow! Fantastic customer service. Love the guitar and service I received. Will be purchasing more gear from Sweetwater.

Awesome Guitar

I decided to replace my Les Paul with something lighter. After months of searching I decided to get an ES-335. I was leaning towards a 61 Custom, but saw a satin one with awesome wood grain. I couldn't be happier. I was worried I might not like the finish, but its super cool (and half the price of a custom). The neck and joints arent sanded super smooth and it gives the guitar a feel of being handmade by craftsmen instead of robots.

Damon and team from Sweetwater did a great job. The guitar is flawless and sounds great. Sorry Sweetwater, but I probably wont be buying another guitar anytime soon - this one is a keeper!

Gibson ES-335 Satin - Satin Vintage Burst

I ordered this guitar on Friday and received it on Saturday !! That's Sweetwater, their on their job. When I unboxed it Sunday it was tuned and ready to play. This is truly a nice guitar! Easy to play and sounds great. I also like the satin finish, no more sticky kneck. I need to thank Sweetwater for all their help. They have been so kind and helpful to me. It's really hard to find those qualities in business nowadays. Thank you Ed and all that work with you.

Get one of these!

This guitar is incredible. Purchased this a short while ago. It's not like I have a ton of money, so it meant a lot to me to finally be able to save up enough to grab this. Plays like a dream. Can get such a great range of sounds from an ES and this one has nothing to complain about. I love the satin finish, especially on the neck. Got lucky with a good neck carve. I never want to put it down when I'm playing it. There's something about the string tension and the warmth of the semi-hollow body that really puts me in a particular headspace when playing this thing. Big thanks for sales engineer Ed for making the purchase super easy and reliable.
