Old-school Goldtop for a Modern Guitar Icon

The Epiphone Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" Les Paul Custom takes the rising star's black-finished "Old Glory" signature guitar and gives it the Goldtop treatment. Like its darker-hued stablemate, the Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" combines '50s-era Les Paul playability with hot-rodded tone. Loaded with a single Seymour Duncan P-90 pickup, plus master Volume and Tone controls, this solidbody electric represents Nichols's dream guitar. In his own words, “I’ve been playing the prototype of “Old Glory” on stage since the day I got it. Ever since Joe Perry loaned me a '50s Les Paul Custom with a single pickup, I knew I needed one of my own. This is an incredible guitar." The Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" can be your incredible dream guitar, too. Pick it up, and you won't put it down until — in true JJN style — you wear your fingers down to threadbare nubs.

Thanks to Joe Perry

As the guitar world took note of Jared James Nichols's rise to prominence, he was approached by Epiphone for ideas on creating a signature model. The design was an easy choice for Nichols — ever since having been loaned a '50s Les Paul Custom with a single pickup by none other than Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Nichols knew he had to have one. The Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" Les Paul Custom is based on that loaner guitar, bringing you the feel of a vintage Les Paul at an amazing value.

Loaded with a vintage-style dog ear P-90 pickup

This Epiphone Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" Les Paul Custom is fitted with a Seymour Duncan dog ear P-90 pickup. We have many fiercely loyal P-90 fans here at Sweetwater. These guitarists know that the P-90 offers a unique tonal palette that is distinct from — and complements — humbuckers and traditional single-coils. One of the first successful single-coil pickups, the P-90 can be heard on countless iconic recordings. With its biting treble and high output, the P-90 cleans up nicely when you roll back your guitar’s volume pot. It’s an amazingly versatile pickup with its own brand of grit — a bit brighter, leaner, and less refined than a humbucker, and almost as hot. Hit your amp hard, and the P-90 really wails. P-90 pickups elicit grind, sizzle, bark, and bite that would be impossible with humbuckers — or with other single-coils, for that matter.

Substantial '50s Rounded "C"-shaped neck

Wrap your hand around the Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" Les Paul Custom's '50s Rounded "C" mahogany neck, and you'll be primed for blazing-fast fingerpicking, monster bends, and wicked pinch harmonics. Full enough to remain comfortable all the way up and down its slick, 12-inch-radius fingerboard and fast enough for fleet-fingered blues licks, this solidbody electric guitar's neck plays for keeps. If you're a fan of that 1950s neck feel, the Jared James Nichols "Gold Glory" is ready to conjure some black magic.

Wow! Better than expected!

I ordered this after reading a lot of good reviews, but still was surprised on the upside. The neck on this thing is perfection. It is a very fat neck, and I like that. I play some of the Wylde Audio "baseball bat" necks, and this feels even a little fatter to me. The neck and playability of this guitar would be acceptable if I were trying a much more expensive instrument.

The binding, of course, is a thing. You can feel the seem all over the neck and body, but it doesn't bother me a bit. The Gold satin finish feels great on the neck. Very matte finish feeling, which I like over slick nitro for sure.

Weight is really good. I think 8lbs 4oz, feels no too light or heavy. And the case it comes with is pretty good. You could actually use it. It's no gig bag!

The one problem with the guitar is that the bridge piece cuts are spaced horribly. The low E and G strings were cut by a blind guy or something. The G is so far off, there might be room to re-cut it, but I may just replace it. Even with the horrible bridge cuts, I'm so happy with the guitar I'm still at 5 stars!

Gold Glory

For the price, this is one of the best fiddles I've owned. I've seen alot of videos of guys whining about the paint job and such but like I said, Form this price point you're not going to get perfection. These are tiny flaws. I look for playability so if you're passing on this fiddle you are missing out on one of the best sounding, silky smooth playing machines around.
Music background: Been playin for 50 years, guitar, piano, drums, bass.

Gold Glory

Love this guitar. A very well built guitar. I see a lot of people not looking at the whole picture when it comes to this fiddle. A lot of cryin about the paint job bleeding into the binding. These things are so minor, for an under a thousand dollars. Don't listen to the guitar snobs out there, this fiddle is excellent.
Music background: Piano, Clairinet, Baritone, Bass, and Guitar.

Awesome Guitar

I interviewed Jared a few days before ordering this guitar and it is a beast. Love it, simple to the point and it definitely adds some dirt to your sound when you turn it up.

100% would recommend, this guitar is a work horse and fun to play.

Amazing Guitar!

I ordered Gold Glory on Christmas 2021 and was sad when I found out Sweetwater would not receive any until June... Well, It's May 31st and I received notice that my credit card had been charged. BOOM! Later that day my sales rep Christian called to let me know that Gold Glory was in stock and he had pictures of the one I was to get. He informed me that it was late in the day and that she would most likely ship out the next day. I was shocked when I received notice the next morning that the guitar was "out for delivery". The folks at Sweetwater do an amazing job and Fedex is insane... Fort Wayne to Pittsburgh in record time. Thanks to all!

Now, on to the the guitar itself. She is a beauty. Epiphone does a tremendous job with QC. Not a flaw on it. Granted, the Chinese don't know how to string a guitar but I quickly remedied that with a set of DR Veritas strings that JJN plays. Stays in tune great thanks to the Grover tuners. I also bumped the pole pieces a little closer to the strings for more output and adjusted the action to my liking. What a great guitar that drips with "Blues Mojo".

Thanks Christian, Thanks Sweetwater and especially thanks to Jared for such a cool guitar. No. 30 of my collection.
