This Soapbar-loaded SG Really Wails

This distinguished Epiphone looks to Gibson's '60s-era, dual-soapbar-equipped SG Special for style and sound cues. The Epiphone SG Special comes loaded with a set of P-90 Pro pickups based on Seth Lover's iconic single-coil design. As fans of the style know, these pickups dish out serious attitude pushed into gain and a velvety smoothness with the knobs rolled back. The SG's flat-topped double-cut mahogany body provides the perfect foundation for the P-90 Pros to work their magic. Epiphone's '60s SlimTaper mahogany neck supplies ample comfort and sustain in the hand. And 1960s Gibson-styled hardware — a Lightning Bolt wraparound bridge and ivory-buttoned Epiphone tuners — endows the Epiphone SG Special with classic SG looks and modern performance.

Based on the legendary SG Special

Epiphone's SG Special resurrects a rock icon. Immortalized by Santana at Woodstock and smashed onstage by Townshend at Leeds, the 1960s Gibson SG Special stands alone in its contributions to rock 'n' roll. The same style and protestant tone lives on today in the Epiphone SG Special. This SG is the real deal, giving you genuine P-90 crunch and a tapered neck that's satisfying to get your hand around. The SG's lightweight mahogany body gives you great sustain and no pain, even if you play all night. Own your own piece of rock history: check out the Epiphone SG Special from Sweetwater.

1960s SlimTaper neck profile — a fan favorite

Players worldwide appreciate Epiphone's 1960s SlimTaper neck profile for its fast touch and smooth playability. SlimTaper necks are thinner than their '50s-style counterparts and manage to supply palpable sustain and all-night comfort wherever you play out.

Epiphone P-90 Pro pickups

We have many fiercely loyal P-90 fans here at Sweetwater. These guitarists know that P-90 pickups offer a unique tonal palette that is distinct from — and complements — humbuckers and traditional single-coils. Epiphone's P-90 Pro soapbars are heavily inspired by Seth Lover's original designs. These pickups are super-versatile and supply their own brand of grit — a bit brighter, leaner, and less refined than a humbucker, and almost as hot. Hit your amp hard, and the P-90 Pros really wail. Plugged into a proper high-gain tube amp, you can elicit grind, sizzle, and bark that would be impossible to achieve with other pickup types. If you're an SG lover looking for unique mid-roads tones at a great price, the Epiphone SG Special is one to keep your eye on.

My new favorite!

The guitar is a pleasure to play. It feels so nice in the hands and has a good weight. The sound of the P90s are amazing. The Pelham Blue color is beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised to have gotten an absolute perfect guitar in my opinion. Don't hesitate, just buy the guitar. You will not be disappointed.

Outstanding guitar.

Well, I'm afraid I got tired of waiting for this to be back in stock, so I had to get it from your competitor, so of course the setup was awful out of the box. 7/32" high on the bass side, 6/32" treble. The truss rod had zero tension on it, to the point it actually slid all the way forward in the slot when I tried the pull the Allen wrench out to reposition for another QUARTER turn. Suffice it to say, that 55 point inspection is missed when not buying from Sweetwater.

That said, a thorough setup and slight deepening of the string slots on the nut put this guitar right. Nice and super low for me 4/32" bass and just over 2/32" treble action, .005 relief, plays in tune across the fretboard and STAYS in tune over days. Intonation is very good for a compensated wrap tail bridge, and it is very very comfortable. The neck is described as a slim taper C, but I'd say it's more of a slim D, which is not a bad thing for me. The frets are quite good, and should be nearly perfect with a thorough polishing.

The pickups sound great, I see no reason to change those, and the volume pots have an excellent, usable taper.

The finish is beautiful and very nearly flawless, and the Indian Laurel fretboard is an attractive piece of wood. Rapidly becoming a favorite fretboard material.

Bottom line, this guitar holds it's own with even my favorite vintage Gibsons. I see no reason to shell out the cash for the current Gibson model, this one is the stuff! Buy one before Gibson realizes their off brand is better than their own stuff.

Awesome guitar!

Is this guitar worth the money? ABSOLUTELY! A player right out of the box! After the 5 point inspection that Sweetwater does on every guitar they send out, i was like with every guitar I've bought from them blown away. My sales engineer Ryan Maury and his teem are the best in the business! I'll never buy from anyone else! They treat you like family! You don't find that that anywhere else! THANKS AGAIN SWEETWATER! For employing such awsome people!

awesome

when i got this back in april they were on back order until June. i didn't want to wait so i took a demo with a slight chip. my salesman Zakk game me a good discount. i play this through a Marshall origin 20 with a 2 12 cab loaded with celestions. the marshall head needs an overdrive for good distortion. boss SD-1 applied! this guitar right out of the box was perfect, it was set up by sweetwater. it does everything from the stones to alice in chains! i have many other guitars (fender, Gibson, ibanez) but when im in the mood to just plug in and rock, this is the one. and BTW it is a beautiful guitar
