The Iconic SG Custom

The Epiphone SG Custom is a rock icon. Epiphone’s SG Custom takes you back to formative years of the legendary solidbody electric guitar, in all its glory: powerful humbuckers, Block inlays, gold hardware, and all. The SG Custom’s fast, comfortable SlimTaper neck and bound ebony fingerboard provide an effortless playing experience; while its lightweight, sleekly contoured mahogany body delivers great sustain and no pain, even when you gig all night. And that tone — you have to hear it to believe it! Own your piece of music history at a price you can afford, with an Epiphone SG Custom from Sweetwater.

Alnico Custom PRO humbuckers onboard

When you really want to cook on a solo or deliver some thunderous power chords, you reach for a guitar that’s got a pair of humbuckers, right? Forget all those thin “out-of-phase” guitar sounds that session players overused in the 1980s and into the ’90s. That’s not for you. Your sound is all about the warmth, punch, and midrange complexity you can only get from a pair of humbuckers. The Epiphone SG Custom comes with a pair of Alnico Custom PRO ’buckers for uncompromising power, whether you’re playing rhythm or digging into a solo.

Fast SlimTaper neck

The Epiphone SG Custom has a SlimTaper mahogany neck. Early Les Pauls had huge necks, but by 1960 the neck underwent several modifications until it became what’s known as the slim-taper design. The SG took it one step farther, making the neck among the fastest ever designed. Hey, Frank Zappa played one and the guy had some wicked chops. If you like the combination of a fast mahogany neck and the warmth of a rosewood fingerboard, you’ll love the Epiphone SG Custom.

Something old, something new

It’s hard to believe that by 1961, Gibson decided to discontinue the original Les Paul guitar. Their motivation is unclear. Weak sales? The urge to try something new? In any case, the first SGs were actually called Les Pauls, but Les himself wasn’t in favor of that for a variety of reasons. So, in a bold move, this solid guitar was renamed SG, which stood for, uh, solid guitar. A few years later, Gibson started making the original Les Pauls again, but the SG proved so popular that they kept making them. The reason is easy to understand.

Your piece of rock history

With its iconic sculpted double-horned body, it’s actually quite a cool looking instrument, and it delivers the classic humbucker sound for people who don’t particularly want or need a Les Paul. The SG is also a much lighter-weight instrument, yet it doesn’t cut corners. You still get quality mahogany construction and a pair of hot humbuckers that deliver all the warm, fat tone you could ever want. Own your piece of rock history at a price you can afford, with an Epiphone SG Custom from Sweetwater.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Beautiful daughter

This guitar plays nice sounds nice. neck was straight. Everybody at Sweetwater was great. I have a few guitars and I play a lot. I bought this to replace the first guitar ever had which was a SG and I sold it and traded it for my 1982 limited edition les paul. This is a great replacement. If
You get a chance to try one of these, do so. Shipping was fast and it was packed nicely from Sweetwater. Thank you
Music background: Played in a few bands in my lifetime. Made a decent amount of money. Played a lot of different styles of guitars and music.

Great player. No flaws. No fret sprouts. Nice finish.

Fretboard is very nice. Frets are smooth. Sounds like a champ. Couldn't ask for anything better for a SG. Would definitely buy again from Sweetwater. Flawless delivery. Dennis is great as my engineer.
Music background: Played into River band for quite a while. Made a lot of money.

One bad A** Chinese SG Custom copy

This and the last 2020 Epiphone SG Custom I bought over a year ago from an online competitor are the two best Epiphone SG Customs I've bought since I've been playing mid priced to upper ended Epiphone SGs 13 years ago. The finish is gorgeous and the gold hardware looks like an Egyptian king, queen, prince or princess should be playing these things of they were still around. As for the pickups and the sound of them they sound hot and middle to high gain. I like the way the pickups sound but for personal preferences they should have put either Gold Chinese made ProBuckers or or American made Gold Burstbuckers just like they did for the Epiphone Custom Les Paul SG Standards they'd just put out around the holidays last year. I might swap them out for either American made Burstbuckers or some American made Duncans or keep them stock for now until I break this guitar in. Thanks Michael DiGiorgio (My sales Engineer) for reserving this great Demo Model and thanks Sweetwater for selling me this great guitar when my local Samash told me not to call them anymore and they weren't going to be doing business with me anymore and the local shops in the area either didn't have them or weren't doing payment plans or layaway.
Music background: Blues Blues Rock and 70's hard rock and 80's speed metal

A very special guitar

I own multiple Gibson Les Paul's, and a Gibson sg, and a boat load of fender starts. All amazing instruments. Looking at the specs of this guitar made me feel like it was as close to a Gibson as you can get for a fraction of the price.

First impressions the neck was nice, straight, flat, easy to play, but the frets needed to be broken in. I used a little bit of steel wool to polish them up and some fine grit sand paper to clean up the Edges of the neck. A little bit of adjustments to the bridge and this thing ROCKS.

The bridge and neck pickups are amazing sounding, full, and unique from great highs to rumbling lows. The pots and knobs give you an amazing range of possibilities and feel of quality.

The neck does have a little bit of play in it, compared to my Gibson's, but the guitar stays in tune. It's feels more like a fender Stratocaster neck then a Gibson. But who's said there was anything wrong with that!

Simply an amazing guitar for the money. Once it's broken it it's hard to put down.
Music background: I play a lot of guitar
