A Time-traveling Tone Machine

With the iconic look and sound of 1950s-era Les Pauls, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’50s is full vintage character and classic rock ‘n’ roll vibe. A mahogany body pours out warm resonance, while a maple top punches up the tone with clarity and snap. The comfortable ’59 Rounded Medium C neck snugs perfectly into your hand for easy chording and dynamic fret runs. Powered by Alnico ProBucker pickups, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’50s has a distinctive rock ‘n’ roll growl when pushed and a warm, pleasant top end when you lay back. Premium appointments, such as Epiphone Vintage Deluxe machine heads, LockTone ABR Tune-o-matic bridge, and high-quality CTS ’50s-style wiring complete the package on this formidable tone machine, available from Sweetwater.

A universe of tone with ProBucker pickups

The ProBuckers on the Les Paul Standard ’50s feature Alnico II magnets — the same as sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers — for rich, warm tone with crystalline highs and a tight bottom. With a ProBucker-1 in the neck position and a (slightly overwound) ProBucker-2 in the bridge position, crank your gain, and you can do some serious damage. We’re talking legendary Les Paul — fat, snarling tone served up with exceptional sustain.

The Les Paul backstory

The Les Paul story started with an instrument called “The Log.” In the early 1940s, on a quest for an electric guitar that would sustain for days, Les Paul — the legendary guitarist and inventor — fashioned what may well have been the first solidbody guitar from a length of common 4" x 4" lumber. For appearances (and possibly playing comfort), Les sawed an Epiphone hollowbody in half and attached the two “wings” to either side of The Log. Les continued to develop the idea through a series of prototypes, ultimately resulting in the classic solidbody guitar we know and love.

With a Les Paul, you’re in good company

From rock to fusion and beyond, the Les Paul’s surly snarl has virtually defined attitude-laden overdriven guitar tone. Legendary guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Al Di Meola, Alex Lifeson, Slash, and countless others have forged their signature sounds with a sunburst Les Paul. Epiphone now gives you the opportunity to experience that one-of-a-kind tone and look at an amazingly affordable price with the Les Paul Standard ’50s. What’s more, the Standard ’50s comes with Epiphone’s limited lifetime warranty and is backed by Gibson’s 24/7/365 customer service — so you know you’re making a solid investment.

Awesome service and support

I Purchased this Epiphone Les Paul Standard and It came to me already set up and they even did an inspection on the instrument before it was shipped , I was very impressed . Collin Blue gave me his personal touch and called me in person to thank me for my purchase.

Great guitar and amazing value!

Extremely impressed with this guitar! I just recently bought a Fender Start Performer(MEX) series and not comparing the different styles but just the quality of instrument, the Epiphone LP has the edge on my Fender.

There are 3 or 4 minor cosmetic issues that aren't even really worth noting. All smaller than diameter of an eraser but the guitar as an instrument is outstanding. Not to mention the flamed maple top is jaw dropping for an economical guitar. My buddy also has one in Heritage Cherry and his plays and looks great as well.

This is just an outstanding guitar. I think Gibson and Epiphone are on the right track with the "inspired by Gibson" Epiphone line. It's like Fender's Mexican guitars but honestly, like I mentioned, this is better quality and was cheaper than my Fender MEX Strat.

Highly recommend!

Very pleased.

I had a 2018 Standard Gibson LP and wasn't impressed. I sold it but still had an itch for a LP. When the 2020 Epiphones dropped my interest was peaked. I checked out a modern model (the only model available in store) and was impressed. I do not like thin necks like the asym slim neck on the 2018 Gibson and modern Epi. I hemmed and hawed between the 50s and 60s Standard Epiphones. Slim taper or medium Rounded C profile? I play a few different neck profiles that are on the fatter side. So, I took a shot and bought the 50s Standard in vintage sunburst. The neck is fat but not of any concern. I'd say I have medium hands and I don't have any issues. It feels and plays great. The guitar is clean and there are no obvious flaws in the finish. My 2018 Gibson was beautiful but had quite a few flaws in the finish and binding; as any guitar does if you look close enough. The Gibson also had brutal fret buzz and a defective volume pot. It was just unacceptable at that price point. The Epiphone looks great and in my opinion the rolled binding on the frets is unnecessary. I've only played it for about an hour but I'm happy. A tad bit of fret buzz but nothing to write home about. Every guitar should be set up properly and I'll do it at some point but I'm in no rush. At a quarter of the price of Gibson I'm tempted to buy a second to keep in the arsenal. Someday I'll spring for a reissue Gibson LP. There's something about having a hand made quality instrument. But for now...this will do just fine!

Oh, and I had a Epiphone LP from the 90s and it was pure garbage compared to this. Totally different level.

Just do it

This is a solid guitar for a solid price. The neck is chunky, the pickups sound better to me than the 61 BurstBuckers in my 60's standard. Plays amazing. Look doc, if your on the fence, don't be, just buy one.

My weapon of choice!!!

Do NOT overlook this guitar just cause it's not a Gibson! My 3rd guitar purchased from Sweetwater, ( who does an amazing job shipping and inspecting)! Do NOT buy a guitar from anyone else cause the other guys don't have their act together like Sweetwater does, I'm telling ya!! Back to this guitar... it's not enough to say how beautiful it looks or how affordable it is. I have not seen any pictures that do it justice. You have to see this thing in person, plug it in and hold it in your hands to realize what you've truly got here! All the finishes are gorgeous but I chose the Vintage Sunburst cause to me, it screams Jimmy Page! What a joy it is to own a guitar like this! Excellent quality and eye-catching hardware from head to toe! This guitar pops in every way and will leave you breathless. I won't bore you with all the specifications cause you can look them up for yourself. It feels, looks like and IS the real deal. A true musicians friend and a guitar for the ages..rock on!!!
