Headless 5-string Multi-scale Bass with Premium Upgrades

If you’re a bassist looking for an upgraded 5-string Multi-scale bass that doesn’t cost a fortune, then Sweetwater has your axe. The Ibanez Standard EHB1505MS features a sleek, ergonomic, lightweight African mahogany body with an eye-popping poplar burl top, a super-fast graphite-reinforced 9-piece panga panga/walnut neck, and a silky-smooth bound panga panga fingerboard. And to drive the tone home, the EHB1505MS is spec’d out with a pair of premium Nordstrand Big Split pickups. Ibanez has really pulled it all together in this cutting-edge headless multi-scale design — and for a price that will amaze you (in a good way)!

Nordstrand Big Split pickups deliver the tone

Nordstrand Big Split passive pickups deliver classic fat, punchy tone on demand. Their split-coil humbucking design bucks the annoying hum, but delivers the beef. They’re amazingly responsive, too. Dig in, and they growl with the big cats. Pull back, and they’re sweet and clear. Go ahead: slap and pop — they thrive on abuse! Ask any tone-savvy bass player at Sweetwater, and they’ll confirm that — onstage or in the studio — your bass will sound incredible with Nordstrand Big Split pickups.

Mono-rail bridge enhances definition and sustain

Ibanez specified their excellent Mono-rail V bridge for the Premium EHB1505MS. Unlike single-body bridges, each Mono-rail saddle is completely separate from the others. This does two things for you. First, since they aren’t connected, the saddles create minimal sympathetic vibration, preventing unused strings from ringing. Second, each saddle is double-anchored, allowing energy to transfer efficiently between the string and the body. As a result, bassists here at Sweetwater are raving about the EHB1505MS’s astonishing clarity and sustain.

Ibanez: a brief history

Ibanez began its life in 1908 as the Hoshino Gakki company in Nagoya, Japan. However, the company didn’t get into the guitar business until 1929, when they started importing Salvador Ibanez guitars from Spain. In 1935, Hoshino Gakki began building Spanish acoustic guitars under the “Ibanez Salvador” name, which was later shortened to Ibanez. Although Ibanez began manufacturing electric guitars in 1957, the company was relatively unknown in the West until the 1960s, when they started producing guitars based on American designs. By the late 1970s, Ibanez had stopped producing derivative instruments and had begun manufacturing the innovative original guitar and bass designs that the company is now known for. Ibanez is also famous for their effect pedals, most notably the Tube Screamer. Sweetwater is proud to offer to you such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.

Dope!

I love this thing. Bought it for drop tuning. Plays like butter with some DDT black beauties. Fantastic tones.

Incredible bass

If your on the fence about this bass go for it and buy one. It's my first fiver and I absolutely love it, awesome playability, great look and amazing sound. Just don't buy the case that is suggested for it. It's not snug at all. They should have designed a specific case for these and hopefully they will.

Beautiful Beast

Yes, it looks exactly as it does in the pictures. The sound is raucous, raw, yet refined. If you cannot find your tone on this bass, you're doing something wrong. Mine arrived with Schaller Strap Locks already installed. Nice touch. Also had Dunlop Strap Locks in the package. It also comes with what I presume to be a thumb rest, but the shape doesn't seem to lend itself to any defined location, although it does fit perfectly between the pickups, but if you put it there, it would look awkward. This will not fit into a Zither upright stand, as I had hoped, but a wall mounted String Swing® with a compressed hanger should do the trick.
Music background: Professional musician for 35+ years. Studio owner.

Beautiful and lightweight.

It offers a lot of features for the price. I'd love to see it coming in at $ with the premium pickups, but you can't have it all. To the guy from Maine talking about how it comes with a thumb rest that happens to fit exactly between the pickups, that's not a thumb rest. It a finger ramp. The idea is it keeps you from digging in under the string. That way there is less clicky-ness when playing, and to some degree is can act like a compressor by preventing overly loud notes. I personally find them limiting, and I like playing hard sometimes.
