Power, Performance, and Easy System Integration

The Yamaha DZR315 offers superb clarity and best-in-class SPL performance. This 3-way bi-amped PA speaker boasts a high-power 2,000-watt Class D amplifier, a 31Hz–20kHz frequency range, and can tackle any application you throw at it. Sophisticated DSP processing yields high-resolution sound with super-low latency, while optimized presets and an intuitive LCD display make dialing in your settings a piece of cake. As a powered PA speaker, the DZR315 integrates with any configuration. It can also operate effectively as a stage monitor. The DZR315 employs a lightweight, yet durable, plywood cabinet with a premium-grade polyurea coating.

Sophisticated DSP processing

At Sweetwater, we're impressed by the DZR315's intelligent DSP processing. Yamaha's Advanced FIR-X tuning employs a combination of FIR filtering and corrective EQ to minimize phase distortion, ensuring smooth frequency response, stunning clarity, and accurate sound imaging. D-Contour is an intelligent multiband compressor that maintains the ultimate in clarity, even when you push the DZR315 to its highest output level. D-Contour features two settings, FOH/MAIN and MONITOR mode, allowing you to fine-tune the DZR315's sound based on your application. You also get DSP protection that safeguards your power supply, power amplifiers, and transducers against damage. Despite all this powerful DSP, the DZR315 remains easy to use, thanks to optimized factory presets and an intuitive LCD screen.

Custom-designed transducers

The Yamaha DZR315 is loaded with great-sounding, custom-designed transducers. Its high-frequency transducer includes a 2-inch voice coil and 1-inch throat compression driver, a titanium diaphragm, and neodymium magnet housed in a heat-resistant aluminum-cast frame. Its mid-frequency transducer features an 8-inch cone and 1.5-inch voice coil, yielding maximum efficiency and super-low distortion for low-mid frequencies. Its low-frequency transducer uses a large 3-inch voice coil, cast-aluminum frame, and powerful, yet lightweight, neodymium magnet to handle the chest-thumping low end that the DZR315 delivers. The DZR315 isn't just all about power, however. Its low-end response is tightly controlled, especially in the mid-bass and vocal range, assuring crystal-clear sound reproduction — even at cranked volumes.

High-power Class D amplifier

Loaded with 2,000 watts of Class D power, the Yamaha DZR315 is a beast. It delivers an impressive 143dB SPL, so go ahead and crank it up — the DZR315 can take it. Enjoy maximum power, along with stable, worry-free operation, thanks to a universal switching mode power supply. Beyond that, this amp was optimized to match the DZR315's transducers, ensuring top-tier sound quality.

After a year and 1/2

So I have owned 2 of these for a year and a half now, that I bought from Sweetwater (and the bags), and these are the top end of the consumer speaker market before stepping up to a line array system. Are there better speakers in a 3 way design out there? Not that I have heard. I would like to try and rectify some of the earlier reviews on these speakers too from other reviewers. No, I don't work for Yamaha or Sweetwater btw!!

First: If you're not getting a good sound out of these, then why? No, they are not going to color the sound, and/or exaggerate the bass, mids, or highs. Think of them like really, really big 3 way studio monitors. What you put into them is what you get out. I think a lot of people miss this concept when using these. Yes, the Eq settings can be a bit tricky at first (read the manual if needed) and this is of course if you're actually using the eq settings, and not eq'n from your board or rack effects!

Secondly: These things are freak'n loud!! But there's a reason for that. These things throw sound like a line array system (remember there's an 8 inch mid in them), and I have found that if you put them in a room that is too small, you're not getting the full potential out of these like they were designed. Setting them up outside is even better because you can really turn up the volume, and hear them like they were designed to be heard! The details you're going to hear in songs that you probably never heard while using a 2 way speaker setup is going to blow your mind!!

Now for a few things to keep in mind: They are heavy, especially if you're planning on lifting them up on subwoofers by yourself? You'll need some help. There are no pole slots for these, so if you're use to putting speakers up on sticks/poles, that's not happening! I have been using a work around for this dilemma because I like to centre cluster my subs, and that's when I actually need to use subs with these (I'm having some custom reinforced steel stands made for these finally). Also, the front of the speakers are not like your typical metal front grills (again think really big studio monitors here). Love it or hate it? That's what Yamaha gave us for a grill!! Just keep them clean, and buy the bags. Sure, the bags are expensive accessories, but these are some of the best speaker bags I have seen or used.

So my conclusion here: If I had to do it all over, would I buy a set of these again? Yes, I would! Actually, I should have bought 4 lol. No, they're not my 2 way go host some karaoke in a dive bar speakers (although I have used them for karaoke once or twice, and the response from everyone was "Why haven't we been singing through these the whole time lol)?? Just know, that no 2 way speaker is going to hold a candle to the DZR315's after you hear them. As for other 3 way speakers? The other consumer competitor options have gotten a little long in the tooth now (and that's not bashing them by no means btw! Just that with a couple of them, their technology is about 10 years behind or more). That being said, Meyer makes a great 3 way powered speaker that I have heard, and liked, but the price on those put them out of the normal consumer market, and up in the pro gear setups. I still think I like the Yamahas better too. You're mileage may vary tho?!?!

Awesome!

The DZR315 is an outstanding 3-way point-source loudspeaker that effortlessly produces pristine musical sound at both low and very high SPLs. I bought two units from Sweetwater recently and cannot be happier with this purchase. I thank Sales Engineer David Winkert for his consistently proactive and efficient service. It's people like him that help make Sweetwater a favorite source of professional sound gear and musical instruments for customers like me.
I have read about negative experiences by other buyers/owners here on Sweetwater and other sites regarding this speaker and can understand their frustrations. This is due, in most cases, to failure to correctly set up the speaker via its integrated software upon first use. The EQ needs to be engaged and the FOH listening mode selected to get optimal sound from the speaker. I hope this helps!

Outstanding sound- best SPL specs and a Cast Frame Speaker!! The Clear winner anywhere near this price!

We upgraded our sound system by buying a pair of these!! They are warm and rich sounding and throw the sound a long - long way!! We play a lot of outdoor venues and we needed something powerful and that would pronounce the vocals. With the 8" midgrange drive and the horn loaded cab, these certainly do all of that!! We've owned all other major brands and both the build quality and end results are excellent. We also are very impressed with their covers! Great for all weather situations and nicely padded. We also purchased the DZR 15's and DZR12's. Extremely satisfied!

The Single BEST speaker I have ever heard- putting out 143db!

Amazing 3 way speaker , 15", 8" midrange & horn in a horn loaded cab. Speaker is a cast aluminum frame, these are built like tanks!! While the speakers are loud (the closest competitor puts out 137db) the Yamaha DZR's are warm sound and help accentuate vocals. Vocals don't get lost in the mix. Very happy we purchased these. They replaced our recently purchased QSC KW153 which only put our 134db. The Yamaha DZR's blow away anything else we've heard!!

Yamaha dzr 315's

First impression left me unimpressed. Was expecting a greater quality sound compared to my old passive system. It failed to sound as good. Fidelity as described is not my opinion and I worked the speaker in different configurations. Running through my outboard gear dialed sound quality in better but still had scratchy mid's and didn't find High's to be defined and glassy. Balancing Db levels on back of speakers kind of a inconvenience when you can do that at a mixing console with a passive system. Found from song to song or genre you had to adjust and balance between top and sub. It does have low end soo much that you would need more than 1000 watts Rms to define the presence of a sub. So very loud box. Too much fiddling is required to enhance sound quality I'm afraid.
