A Superior Double-kick Pedal for Any Style of Music

The consensus among Sweetwater drummers is this: if you've never played a direct-drive double-bass drum pedal, you need to try DW's DWCPMDD2XF. DW packed years of meticulous engineering into the DWCPMDD2XF, and it shows. Machined from solid aluminum, the DWCPMDD2XF gives you smooth, effortless action, courtesy of DW's innovative Fulcrum Geometry linkage. In fact, it's loaded with cool, drummer-centric features such as its perforated footboards with contoured heel plate, interlocking Delta hinge, Tri-Pivot Swivel Toe-Clamp, Vertical Sliding Spring Adjustment, control beater with adjustable weight/impact, and more. Factor in a pair of extended XF longboards for increased range underfoot and added room for slide doubles, and the DW MDD Machined Direct Drive double bass pedal offers one of the most primo playing experiences money can buy. If you've been wondering what a direct-drive kick pedal can do for your drumming, you'll find the definitive answer in the DW DWCPMDD2XF.

What do you want from a kick pedal?

In the design of the DWCPMDD2XF, DW reconsidered the role of the bass drum pedal in the kit. What do you want from your pedal? Fluidity, first of all. You want it to be an extension of your body, your mind — or preferably, your subconscious! As a driver of the music, it needs to be ultra-responsive, and the direct-drive DWCPMDD2XF certainly is that. Whether you're feathering kicks in your fusion combo or driving a djent juggernaut, the DWCPMDD2XF can ace the gig. We realize that kick pedals are highly personal, but the DWCPMDD2XF is so outstanding, it deserves your serious consideration.

Direct drive for quick, responsive feel

Direct-drive pedals have a solid linkage between the footboard and beater assembly, which obviates the need for a traditional cam. This eliminates the slight lag time that can occur with a chain- or strap-drive model, giving you a quick and responsive feel that's ideal for any musical style — and particularly appreciated by fleet-footed metal drummers. The smooth surface of the DWCPMDD2XF's perforated solid-aluminum XF footboard is perfect if you're a drummer who slides your foot forward to play double and triple strokes à la Dave Weckl.

DW DWCPMDD2XF Machined Direct-drive Double-kick Pedal Features:

  • Machined from solid aluminum; direct-drive cam with pivot adjustment
  • Extended XF longboards maximize range and playing surface
  • Smooth, effortless action, courtesy of DW's innovative Fulcrum Geometry linkage
  • Perforated solid-aluminum footboard with contoured heel plate
  • Interlocking Delta hinge; Tri-Pivot Swivel Toe-Clamp
  • Tri-Pivot Swivel Toe-Clamp is secure, yet easy on bass drum hoops
  • Drive linkage and cam with Threaded Bearing Technology
  • V.E.R.T. Vertical Spring Adjustment lets you fine-tune your action
  • Control beater with adjustable weight/impact

Fantastic!!!

All I can say is wow! This is by far the best pedal DW has created! I don't think this pedal is overengineered. So many areas to tweak that I've dialed it in just perfect for my preferences. As for some of the comments about sliding, that's shouldn't be an issue. Just figure something out, I have no problem with "sliding". See photo.

XF is Sick AF

I've written a review for the standard DW MDD double pedal previously. But once I saw DW was introducing the XF version, I knew it was a must-purchase.

The XF boards make the MDD even better than I thought possible. The extra length and different angle positioning the longer boards provide make the MDD XF the smoothest, fastest, AND powerful double pedal I've ever tried and owned. I actually prefer that there is still a small heel plate to utilize for heel-down strokes, but the reduced profile in both size and height from the original MDD pedal makes it seem like its not even there.

While these are ideal for playing metal music for sure, they will be a welcome addition to any drummer who is interested in double bass drumming! HIGHLY, 1000% Recommended!

Pro-Tip: The beater hubs on these are quite high up so I have found personally that lowering the height on the beaters has really benefited the playability on these even more. I went so far to have the beater shaft cut by 1" to get it down farther. Definitely experiment with beater height more so than beater distance.

Needs Improvements

Two Issues. My Bottom base Board is bent. Right pedal, where the key holder is. Checked my 9000s, baseboard is basically the same. the old ones were still intact after all these years. Minor issue but I would have expected an improved baseboard. My DW Collectors are 26", the new design raises the bass drum .815. Attempted to remove the bottom rubber pad universals to reduce height but the screw just spins. Must be captive, will have to contact DW, no schematic on this part. Overall pedal is very smooth and responsive. Beaters give that "shotgun sound" I'm looking for.

Slides all over the place.

I've had the pedal for about 5 months now and the left pedal just slides all over the place. No remedy seems to help. With the amount of money this costs, I didn't think I'd be running into this issue on a consistent basis.

Slides all over the place.

I've had this pedal for about 5 months. Since the first day of owning this, the left pedal just will not stay in the same spot. I've tried several different remedies and configurations to no avail. I have no other complains about this pedal, but this is a bit problematic to say the least. I never thought this would be an issue considering the the amount of money this costs. If I still had my old pedal I'd switch back in a heartbeat.
