Use Almost Any Drum as a Kick

With the DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter, you can transform a floor tom into a bass drum without damaging the drum's finish. If you've ever wanted to experiment with using different drums for kick, the 9909 is the key. Take a floor tom, lay it on its side on the 9909's four rubber-cushioned arms. The 9909 gently cradles you drum at perfect beater height, while its rubber/spike tipped feet keep it from creeping forward on any surface flooring. The 9909's arms are fully adjustable, and can accommodate irregularly-shaped instruments such as congas and even djembe. Go ahead - craft your cutting-edge signature kick sound - with the DW 9909.

DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter at a Glance:
  • Ever wonder about some of those kick drum sounds?
  • Feels like a kick
  • Accommodates a wide range of drums and will not harm the finish
Ever wonder about some of those kick drum sounds?

The DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter gives you room for experimentation. Certain jazz drummers have been known for their relatively high-pitched, (and usually undamped) bass drums. What's up with that? Often times, what you're hearing is not even a bass drum. Legendary jazz drummer Billy Higgins (Ornett Coleman, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins and Lee Morgan) was known for his foot finesse with 16" and 18" kicks - tuned wide open, undamped, with coated Ambassador heads front and back. You can achieve the same thing by converting a floor tom for kick duties using the DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter. Experimentation with heads, tuning, and damping, could yield some impressive results!

Feels like a kick

With the DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter, whatever drum you're using for a bass drum will feel like a bass drum. The 9909 is is fully adjustable, is designed not to creep, and sports an integrated pedal mounting bar. Whether you've got a floor tom, conga, or even a djembe mounted, your kick rig will feel like a kick. So go ahead and get creative - the DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter makes it happen.

Accommodates a wide range of drums and will not harm the finish

DW knows you're particular about your drums' finish. That's why they designed the 9909 Bass Drum Lifter with adjustable arms with non-marring rubber tips that gently cradle your drum - no matter how irregularly shaped it is. So go ahead - choose an oddball drum from your percussion arsenal. Chances are, the DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter will be able to accommodate it.

DW 9909 Bass Drum Lifter Features:

  • Integrated pedal mounting bar
  • Rubber-cushioned arms will not harm your drum's finish
  • Can accommodate irregularly-shaped instruments such as congas and djembe

Use almost any drum as a kick, with the DW 9909!

Awesome

Thanks to David Wharam and the whole crew over at Sweetwater! Amazing riser, got it for a 16" kick drum. Holds it secure, level! All I could ask for!!!

Caveats for using with 20" bass drum

I've been using the DWCP9909 with a 20" kick drum for several years. Here are my observations:

PROS:
- elevating a shallow 20" kick looks cool for some kits. Nearly every other drummer I encounter comments on it.
- seems to improve overall kick sound. I would compare it with a guitar amp that is on a stand vs. the floor.

CONS:
- bass drums have deeper hoops, so you need to cut a chunk out of your hoop in order for the beater to impact at 90 degrees. This isn't usually a problem for floor toms.
- adjustments are quite difficult. You have to balance the kick drum while adjusting each leg, one by one. You don't want the feet to touch the hoops or the bass drum lugs.

Overall I like it because of the sound and the look, but it could be better. Also DW could mention something about hoop depth in the product literature.

good idea, but...

Its rather 'clunky', somewhat bulky, heavy and tricky to position. I favour the DANMAR mount. Having said that, I'll be using one at a jazz gig at Rockefeller Center in NY in a few weeks.

A Royal Pain

This riser is bulky, has no memory locks and is way tricky to get right! John Good, Dave Lombardi, Do better!
Rated 1/5

Very bulky, poorly made.

I was not impressed with this riser. Very bulky and not impressed with the craftsmanship.
Music background: Professional drummer for over 45 years.
