This module is crafted to preserve and portray these sonic qualities specifically as they pertain to the way drummers actually play drums, leading to an intuitive, natural performance that prioritizes customization, modularity, and extensive sound design. A suite of onboard FX accompanies 70 preset kits, with space for 200 user kits, and 733 voices that are freely assignable. Yamaha’s expert research centered around investigating the way drums respond to impact and leveraging this information to incorporate spatial sound modeling considerations with velocity and location data, maximizing the expressive capacity for your drums. Sound engineers event went as far as recording and measuring the ambience of the various world-class studio rooms in which each individual drum was recorded. Boasting 733 total voices, the DTX-PROX is stocked with a “Live Set” mode, letting you freely arrange innumerable combinations of kits, tempos, audio files, and backing tracks. Plus, the WAV & Click Sync function automatically supplements click settings to your audio, even adding a pre-count or stopping after a pre-determined interval.

Sweetwater’s drummers and production pros alike agree that the DTX-PROX masterfully distills its nuanced, robust sound modeling into a straightforward, user-friendly interface that lets you focus on what matters: creativity. The Kit Modifier section is represented by Ambience, Comp, and Effect knobs, granting you nuanced acoustic control, through live processing and all the way to the FX-heavy and the otherworldly. Ambience blends room-feel and reverb, remaining relatively natural until you pass the 50% line, at which point pristine digital reverb massively open the sound. Comp is a one-stop-shop for full-mix compression, and the Effect parameter blends two FX processors that can be easily reassigned from various internal offerings. Seven LED rotary faders allow for easy level-adjustment, whether that’s for onboard sounds or any number of external MIDI or DAW options.

From the studio to the stage, the DTX-PROX is designed to be just as robust as a standalone module as it is fully integrated with DAWs or external MIDI devices. Eight individual outputs are equipped with a matrix for freely routing signals to any output. An onboard, professional-grade headphone amp lets you hear not only your output with the highest fidelity, but a monitor signal from a PA system via either of the auxiliary input jacks. USB outputs to host and device, as well as a 5-pin MIDI I/O easily let you connect to DAWs, smart devices, computers, and other instruments. The DTX-PROX also includes comprehensive metronome, recording, and training functions, with Bluetooth connectivity adding to the ease of daily practice or performance.
