Smooth, Stable Chain-drive Double Pedal

With its swayless stability and sport-bike-inspired visuals, the Yamaha FP9 double bass pedal delivers style and performance that can please the industry's most discriminating players. Ball bearings throughout the pedal, as well as front and rear spikes and a frame-inside-a-frame design, prevent rocking, sliding, and pedal play of any kind. This results in a smooth, nearly 1:1 transfer of energy, even at high intensities. Yamaha's 3-way Quick-Adjusting Cams, paired with independently adjustable footboards and beaters, make the FP9 a pedal tweaker's delight. Features we at Sweetwater found especially helpful are the FP9's self-locking ergonomic spring tension knobs, which make it fast and easy to dial in each side from the playing position. You also get a weighted beater system with removable weights to further dial in speed, throw, and power. Two nylon straps and a carry case are also included.

No play in this pedal

Top to bottom, heel to toe, every part of the Yamaha FP9 has been engineered for maximum stability. Ball bearings in the pedal hinges and toe plates, front and rear adjustable spikes, and flex-fighting under-axle subframes neutralize any side-to-side movement. What's really unique are the FP9's Axle-Stabilizing Bearing Chambers (patent pending), which are precisely fabricated to yield a velvet-smooth response between axles, cams, and beaters.

Bearing-loaded pedal linkage

Unifying response between master and slave sides of the Yamaha FP9 double pedal is a streamlined, lightweight pedal linkage that's loaded — both sides — with ball bearings to eliminate rotational play. The joint itself feels extremely sleek and rugged in the hand; a testament to the fact that Yamaha has left no feature unattended to in the FP9 pedal series.

Independent pedal heights and beater angles

Footboard and beater travel can be independently customized in each side of the FP9. Visual markings on the frame permit repeat pedal height settings from session to session.

Key-adjustable cam response

Three Quick-Adjusting Cam settings on each side of the FP9 allow players to further fine-tune response. From perfectly linear in center position to added power or acceleration on either side of the stroke, the FP9's Quick-Adjusting Cam serves as the motor for your preferred style of playing.

Self-locking spring tensioners

The FP9's ergonomic spring tensioners control pedal resistance from playing position. Self-locking knobs, which click to lock in both directions, eliminate the lock washers and locking nuts of traditional designs. What they create are the potential for song-to-song tension adjustments, for each side, on the fly.

Weighted beater system

Included aluminum (3g) and brass (9g) horseshoe weights clip directly onto the FP9's beaters for added weight and heft. Both sizes can have a serious effect on tone and response. Looking for maximum power and authority? Try using both at once.

No hype here

Gotta say, I don't see many touring drummers play this pedal and I don't know why. This pedal is really something special.

Others May Come Close, But This Is The One

How many different pedals have I owned or played? Too many to count. The DFP-9C is what I've been looking for—- for freaking ever. As you know from reading the description, you can easily adjust everything to your own liking. You can adjust almost everything on other high-end pedals as well (maybe not as easily, but you can do it). THAT is not what makes this pedal so amazing, but this is: 1) The foot board will stay with your foot when you come up for the next downstroke, no matter how fast you are. It's amazing... It relieves extra work in no small way. AND it doesn't move thanks to the 4 floor pegs; 2) The slave pedal is a different world. It is EQUAL to the main pedal, and produces the same torque and strike, while being just as fast on the upstroke (pure heaven); It doesn't freaking move, AT ALL. 3) Somehow the folks at Yamaha figured out how to make a pedal this fast without having to max out the spring tension (makes you work harder), change the beater angle to max out the torque (makes you work harder)... these pedals make me feel like playing the kicks is like dancing on air compared to other high-end pedals. They also figured out how to make the pedal the same feel and smoothness from top of motion to bottom and then back again. How did they do THAT? The ball-bearings? I don't know, but this pedal feels GOOD. I could go on and on...If you're thinking about getting one of these bad boys, stop thinking about it and just do it. This is what you're looking for.

Great pedal!

This is the 3rd Yamaha double pedal I have owned, and wow! Over the last 30+ years of playing, I have also had a pearl eliminator, DW 5000, a couple others not in the same class, and played in most other top brands. I've only played 3 gigs with this pedal, but so far this is the best I've played. The ability to dial in whatever feel you like is unmatched. It also seems to be built like a tank. If the durability is on par with the many Yamaha products I've had, this pedal is a grand slam buy!

Killer pedal

Never thought I'd have a Yamaha pedal, but, this thing is siiiiiick. Been using the direct drive Demon Drive from Pearl for a couple years and just never really loved the pedal that much, especially for the price, so I bought this one and it kills the demon drive. Super smooth, adjustable, all around great pedal!! If you're thinks about buying one, just get it!

Fast, Solid and easy to adjust

I have had the peddle for about 3 weeks now and it has lived up to my expectations. I had used my original Yamaha pedal since 1980. I took a coupe of decades off from drumming and on return I tried a Pearl pedal but it just didn't feel right. The amount of adjustments on this new Yamaha pedal make it so versatile. I have it adjusted speed and a light feel and love playing this pedal.
Music background: Playing drums since I was 8 years old and I'm in my upper sixties now.
