The World’s First Harmonic EQ

Unlike conventional analog EQs that use phase to equalize audio signals, the Cranborne Audio Carnaby 500 employs harmonic saturation to boost and cut audio program material. This innovative, trademarked Cranborne Audio technology allows the all-analog Carnaby 500 to provide all the sound-shaping functionality of a traditional semi-parametric 3-band equalizer while enhancing vocals and instruments with euphonic harmonic saturation. A single-slot 500 Series module, the Carnaby 500 is equipped with Optosync, which allows two of them placed side-by-side in a 500 Series rack to function as a stereo equalizer, with a single set of controls controlling both units — ideal for tweaking stereo tracks and stems.

Hear the difference!

Deploy the Carnaby 500 on mixes and masters, and they come roaring to life, blasting out of the speakers with assertive energy. Engineers here at Sweetwater are blown away by the Cranborne Audio Carnaby 500! But you really need to hear and experience it for yourself to fully appreciate its groundbreaking nature and the sonic charms it can bestow on your audio sources.

Cranborne Audio Carnaby 500 Harmonic EQ Features:

  • Employs harmonic saturation to boost and cut audio program material

Amazing

I am about to but a second one. This thing is amazing on high gain guitars and even bass guitar. Its made it easier to be blend in bass with high gain guitars while making the bass more beefy. I think they are onto something here. Immediately made the mix better. I am sure it is good on other tracks also I just haven't tried them yet. I also own their summing mixer. These guys are really innovating.

Unique

Wow. Just Wow. Took a bit of time to get adjusted to the EQ and harmonics being added. But when you get it dialed in, the results are outstanding. Less is more in most cases, but you can really go from subtle to drastic tonal enhancements. I have been printing the tracks back into ProTools, with a few variations for mixing. Great on drums, guitars/bass, keys and even vocals. A must for your 500 rack.

Great enhancer of whatever you throw at it

Great tool to completely mess up a sound in a good way, but mostly I use it to add a little extra subtle distortion in a controlled fashion. The input and output controls help it to interface with loud compressors orto give you make up gain on the backend if you need extra juice.

This will rarely replace the need for a separate eq on a track but I like the way the mid cut works on this thing. Depending on the source it can get rid of some mud with out losing some of the heft. If I don't use it else where in a mix I've found it is a cool color box for reamping guitars.
