King of the Flat-Tops

The J-200 Rosewood is in a class of its own. Gibson’s elite luthiers spared no detail on this handcrafted, all-solid-wood “King of the Flat-Tops.” With beauty, sound, and playability that elevates it to crown-jewel status in Sweetwater’s Guitar Gallery, this magnificent acoustic guitar gives you premium solid tonewoods and impeccable appointments, in a luscious instrument your family will cherish for generations. From its unique vintage nitro finish and thermally-aged Adirondack red spruce top to its elegant, vintage-flavored appointments, this magnificent axe is suitable for art gallery display — but considering its ultra-smooth playability and huge, mellifluous tone; it would be a crime not to play the Gibson Acoustic J-200 Rosewood on a daily basis!

You will be heard with Gibson’s Super Jumbo body style

Gibson’s Super Jumbo guitars were originally built to cut through the loudest acoustic ensembles, allowing them to compete with the mandolins and banjos that were prevalent in the pre-amplified era. It’s still a thrill to hear the well-balanced sound of a Super Jumbo ringing out loud and clear. Many guitarists at Sweetwater — from rockers to country pickers — choose these guitars for their incredible sound, projection, build quality, playability, and — let’s face it — stunning looks. Take the stage with this beauty, and all eyes will be on you!

Eye-popping visuals for a magnificent guitar

A stunning showpiece of handcrafted design and artisanship, the Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood features Gibson’s proprietary nitrocellulose lacquer finish and thermally-aged Adirondack red spruce top. This gives the guitar an incredible vintage vibe and played-in feel. The ebony moustache-style bridge sports elegant mother-of-pearl bars, while the vintage-style Vine pickguard adds a traditional touch of class. Gold Grover Imperial tuners add the finishing touch to this superb guitar. A collector’s dream, the Gibson Acoustic J-200 Rosewood is an instrument your family will treasure for generations.

Classic Gibson craftsmanship for impeccable sound, looks, and playability

Gibson’s reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s. Handcrafted since day one by some of the most skilled luthiers around, Gibson acoustic guitars have inspired countless players around the world. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic, you know you’re getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. These instruments are built to sound great and stand the test of time. After moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan to Nashville, Tennessee (where Gibson electric guitars continue to be made), Gibson finally settled their acoustic operation in Bozeman, Montana, where they continue to handcraft some of the finest guitars on the planet. Sweetwater is proud to offer to you such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.

Absolutely Fantastic guitar that needs a better case

These guitars are very hard to find as almost nobody has these in stock. As soon as they do come up for sale they are gone and for good reason, they are superb!

Not sure how many more are going to be made so if you like rosewood tone woods, a big loud jumbo velvet sound with vintage gorgeous looks this is the one.

I have two other very nice jumbo guitars made from solid figured maple and spruce tops but they don't come close to this Gibson in sound, playability or looks.

This jumbo plays beautifully, looks fantastic and has an angelic voice. My Pre-War SJ200 Rosewood guitar produces a very rich, soulful, full sound. Very few guitars will ever surpass the sound of this big Gibson. Yes, it is that good.

The setup was perfect from the factory. It plays easy and cleanly up and down the neck. I can't find a single flaw in its construction. The quality is amazing. The factory strings were good but I like it best with 11-52 gauge Elixer Nanowebs.

This guitar is everything you would expect in a custom guitar from Bozeman Montana with one exception, the case.

The Pre-War comes with a non-traditional black unmarked case that they call "period specific". The problem with the case is that unlike the standard Gibson jumbo case, the period specific case is flat on the bottom and I don't feel it supports the bottom of the guitar properly. I felt this could possibly put unneeded strain on the neck.

I solved that problem by purchasing the standard Gibson SJ200 case that has the bottom cushion riser in the bottom. This cost me an additional $217 but I felt it was absolutely mandatory to get a "perfect" fitting case for the perfect King of Guitars.

You can see the differences between the period specific and standard SJ200 Gibson case from the pictures. The purple and black period specific is flat as a pancake in the bottom. The standard SJ200 Gibson case is brown and black and has the cushion buffer in the bottom. This is a huge difference between the two cases. The pre-war case is Black on the outside and unmarked. The standard Gibson SJ200 case is a nice brown with gold Gibson logo markings and overall is just a much nicer and better supporting case for this very expensive instrument.

Is this guitar expensive? Yes. Is it also one of the very best guitars you could ever own? That's an even bigger YES!

If you decide to buy this guitar you will not have any buyers remorse. Anyone lucky enough to own one of these musical master pieces will be vary happy. Just be sure you can live with the case, I couldn't.

Gibson pre war SJ200

This instrument is unlike anything I've ever played before. Monster tone and amazing playability. Everyday I play this beast is like winning the lottery. So if your looking into it, it will be worth the wait. I had to wait 11 months for it but that's nothing compared to a lifetime of picking on such a beautiful guitar.
