Hand-chosen tonewoods
Each wood you see on this guitar was picked by hand by a member of the Sweetwater team. The back and sides are made from stunningly figured maple, giving the guitar a bright sound capable of cutting through any mix. The maple back and sides are paired with a European spruce top for clear, detailed amplification. At low volumes, the sound is well-controlled and pleasing to the ears. Lay into it with a flatpick, and the D-42 rises to the occasion, delivering bold, powerful projection whenever you need it.
A neck that plays like a dream
For this guitar, we specified that it would receive a genuine mahogany neck. A classic choice for acoustic guitar necks, mahogany is super stable, extremely durable, and feels great in the hand. This neck is carved into a Modified Low Oval profile for supple playability in any position. Meanwhile, the 20-fret ebony fingerboard supplies the foundation for your fingers to fly across. Detail-oriented construction
The luthiers and artisans at Martin spared no detail when designing and constructing the Custom Shop D-42 Flamed Maple acoustic guitar. At first glance, you’ll notice the liberal use of pearl inlay on the top and within the rosette. But what’s under the hood is just as striking. This guitar features a forward-shifted X brace, which helps produce more bass and a little extra volume. The ebony fingerboard is studded with expertly dressed frets that play exceptionally well. Plus, the saddle is compensated, granting you improved intonation up and down the neck.
