Get Vintage with a Vintera

Snatch your piece of Fender history with the Vintera II ’60s Bass VI. This model joins the Vintera family for the first time ever, giving you a shot at one of Fender’s more distinguished bass guitar models ever produced. Built with stylings inspired by the original models from the ’60s, this re-creation promises vintage tone merged with modern performance. Its body flaunts a resonant piece of alder married to a maple neck that’s capped with a rosewood fingerboard, giving you an all-access pass to rich chords, bass lines, solos, or phrasings. This out-of-the-box instrument is the perfect choice for those wanting to test their meddle or open up new worlds of musical expression! Not only does its exterior represent the epitome of “classy vintage style,” but its trio of single-coils speaks with the timeless charm of ’60s Fender tone.

Expertly chosen tonewoods bring out the low end

Sweetwater was ecstatic when we got our first glimpse of the Fender Vintera II ’60s Bass VI. Since it first came to life in the 1960s, this bass was resurrected by Fender for other reissues, but the Vintera II version glows with renewed classic style and modern performance! For the body, Fender chose a classic bass tonewood of alder for supreme resonance and vibrational transfer. Additionally, a neck of maple with a mid-’60s “C” carve offers players a comfortable grip all along its 30-inch scale length. A slab rosewood fingerboard with a 7.25-inch radius completes the scene for a 6-string bass guitar that’s as enjoyable to look at as it is to play.

It’s not a guitar, it’s a Fender Bass VI!

What makes this instrument so unique? Apart from having a 30-inch scale length and six bass strings, the Fender Vintera II ’60s Bass VI also offers players a vintage-style floating tremolo! That means you can take this bass into big-bend territory, opening up a whole new world of musical fusion in the bass frequency realm. Other features like vintage-style tuning machines, vintage-tall frets, and an eye-catching finish catapult the looks and performance of this model through the roof.

Rockin’ with three vintage-style pickups

After settling on the specs for the bass’s body, Fender had one question left to answer: what kind of single-coils would best translate the voice of the Fender Vintera II ’60s Bass VI into electric glory? They ultimately settled on a trio of vintage-style Bass VI single-coils to capture tones reminiscent of the instrument’s first breaths of life back in the ’60s. Here, you’ll find sweet and sparkling — not to mention warm and woody — tones, completing this Fender with a time-honored sound that never goes out of style. On the pickguard, you’ll also notice three pickup on/off switches plus a low-cut switch. Suffice it to say, the Fender Vintera II ’60s Bass VI was made for vintage instrument lovers, Fender aficionados, and experimental musicians of all stripes!

Fender Vintera II ’60s Bass VI Features:

  • A Fender Bass VI with vintage inspiration and modern-day performance
  • Offset alder body brings out the resonant low end of this axe
  • Maple neck with mid-’60s “C” shape for comfortable grip along its length
  • 30-inch scale length with rosewood fingerboard featuring 21 vintage-tall frets
  • Rosewood fingerboard with 7.25-inch radius ready for chords, bass lines, and everything in between
  • 6-saddle vintage-style adjustable “floating” tremolo tailpiece for rad bends
  • 3 vintage-style Bass VI single-coils bring sweet and sparkling plus warm and woody tones
  • 3 pickup on/off switches plus 1 low-cut switch to experiment with your sound

Make my day

Overall I am very satisfied with the Vintera Bass Vi. I would have preferred a 9.5 radius. The fiesta red is straight out of the sixties. I have ordered a Staytrem bridge as the low E doesn't always want to stay centered on the barrel. A bit pricey but comparable to vintage custom shop instruments from early 2000's. Overall a fine instrument.

I love this bass. Opens all new possibilities.

I'm extremely happy with this bass. It feels like a guitar and is full of tonal options. You can get solid bass guitar low frequencies. The higher strings and bass cut switch let you get into territory between bass and guitar. It opens up new melodic ideas. Guitar is build very well and sounds great. Incredibly inspiring instrument!

Bass VI Inspires!

This Bass VI is really, really nice! I've previously owned two other MIJ Bass VI 90's reissues which were really nice and have always missed having one. I had been investigating the Squire Classic Vibe Bass VI's and was about to get one when I heard about the Vintera II models coming out. Glad I waited! This Vintera Bass VI plays great right out of the box (Thanks to Sweetwater's 55 point inspection and set up) The build quality is great, it has a beautiful finish and the pickups sound awesome. My favorite thing about it is how inspiring it is to play and the sonic bliss. It brings me much joy! Big, big thanks to my always wonderful and helpful Sweetwater Sales Engineer Chris Kress!

Not perfect but I do love it.

I play in a trio that does kindof Dinosaur Jr-esque material and I was playing a lot of power chords on bass and stuff. When I discovered the Bass VI it seemed like a lifesaver and something I should probably have in my collection... and I was right, in many ways it is my dream instrument.

My words of warning for potential buyers:
* I completely hate the bridge. I'm having to adjust it really often, sometimes even mid-set. I ordered a Staytrem bridge to replace it with and I am super excited to have it, this would have been a 5 star review if not for the bridge.
* Also, this isn't a problem for me really since i don't play fingerstyle but if you do... you might hate this instrument. The strings are so close together, it will be a real problem if you're a person that isn't comfortable switching between guitar and bass already.
*The instrument is not really a guitar and not really a bass, it is it's own thing and for this reason I could see many people disliking this instrument.
* The strings fender ships this with are too light and rattle as a result and are round wound which i can't imagine wanting for this instrument personally. The difference in playing it with the labella VI flat wounds was HUGE. You should probably order different strings when you order the guitar.
* Neck arrived insanely dry. I didn't think this should be an issue but it was. I needed to oil it. I ordered a MIJ Precision 6 months ago without the same problem from fender, maybe it's a difference from it coming from a dryer climate (these are made in Mexico). I hesitate to even mention this honestly because it's not a huge deal to do during setup but it was *so* dry and I was surprised.

*I* personally love it. If you want to get heavy you can get super heavy. If you want to get melodic and clean it does that well, too. I feel like i can get a much broader range of sounds out of this than my other two bass guitars (a hofner violin bass and a MIJ Precision bass). It's hard to imagine me putting this one down to grab the others for a recording as of right now but also I am willing to concede I've only had it a month or so. It is a really fun instrument for writing and recording or for playing live.

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them!
