Crystal Clear Dynaudio Sound - Small, Affordable Package!

Many quality loudspeaker manufacturers utilize Dynaudio components in their monitors but few can compare to the Dynaudio listening experience. The BM 6A nearfield monitor brings Dynaudio's custom drivers, high performance amplifiers and electronic crossover to a compact size! If you HAVE to hear the material in your audio and are looking for a space-saving solution, the Dynaudio BM 6A hits the mark!

Dynaudio BM 6A 2-Way Active Monitor at a Glance:
  • Outstanding monitor for intimate spaces and surround systems
  • Flawless performance from 100% custom-designed and built drivers, cabinets and electronics
  • Clear, clean bass from 6.7" woofer
  • Even, peak-free response from silk dome tweeter
  • Master-built bass reflex cabinet optimizes low frequency response
  • Dual discrete MOSFET amplifiers and precision electronics power the cleanest possible signal

Outstanding monitor for small spaces and surround systems
This high-performance monitor comes in a very compact design and is ideal for production environments where space is a concern. The BM 6A is well suited for music monitoring and mixing, broadcasting, mobile vans, edit suites, playback suites, project studios and smaller post production facilities. The size in combination with renowned Dynaudio Acoustics performance also makes the BM 6A suitable for smaller 5.1 productions. When space is limited, the combination of the BM 6A with a subwoofer will deliver a full-blown 5.1 system with remarkable performance usually only found in larger setups.

100% custom-designed and built drivers, cabinets and electronics
Like all Dynaudio monitors, the BM 6A is completely custom-designed and built to assure a perfect match of components. The drivers are specifically designed to avoid acoustic and performance problems that would require extensive manipulation of crossovers to correct. The cabinets are crafted in Dynaudio's Denmark facility and minimize resonance while enhancing bass response. And the BM 6A's crossovers, protection circuitry and power amplifiers all are optimized for maximum performance, phase-coherent reproduction and high SPLs.

Clear, clean bass from 6.7" woofer
Dynaudio molds the BM 6A's low frequency driver cone of Magnesium Silicate Polymer with their special "flat cone" geometry for outstanding transient response and minimal breakup. With a cast aluminum frame, oversized vented magnet and 3" aluminium alloy voice coil this driver delivers plenty of output power and sheer punch down to 41Hz.

Even, peak-free response from silk dome tweeter
The BM 6A's high frequency driver ensures quality and high headroom. While many monitor manufacturers use metal dome drivers which can have problematic peaks, the BM 6A's specially coated silk soft dome tweeter provides excellent response with no ringing or resonances.

Master-built bass reflex cabinet
Also built in Dynaudio's plant, the BM 6A enclosure is constructed of hand-selected premium woods and quality veneers. Its front bass port contributes to the BM 6A's surprisingly powerful low frequencies. Radius edges on the front baffle reduce boundary effects and improve the overall sound quality. And with its elegant matte finish the BM 6A looks every bit as good as it sounds!

Precision electronics for the cleanest possible signal
Thanks to its custom-designed electronic crossover the BM 6A offers a seamless transition between drivers. You've got plenty of power from the built-in high performance amplifiers, with 100 watts for the low frequency driver and 100 watts for highs. Precision protection circuitry ensures the drivers are safe from damage. If you need quality in sound reproduction for a small environment you don't want to miss the BM 6A!

The BM6 MkIII's were good enough for Dynaudio to bring them back, sort of...

I have owned a pair of Dynaudio BM6 MkIII satellites paired with the venerable BM14S mkII sub. I have enjoyed them for years. When I first started listening to them, I was, OK, I think I spent too much. About 2 or 3 months later it was like the sound fairy came and sprinkled perfection dust on them! They got even better over the next week. I listened to so many recordings to see what they could do. I picked the sweet spot to listen to them and what just knocked over. I could no longer hear the speakers, I could hear musicians playing with their sound emanating from where ever they stood in front of me, between and slightly outside the speakers, from to back and up and down. They were like a new pair of speakers. My sales specialist, Greg Savino (The Best) told me I had to wait until they were broken in he was right, it was months though not weeks. He also got me to buy new cords, what a difference, who knew? I heard that difference immediately. I have listened to many, many speakers. I used to design and build them.
Well, if you looking for speakers that sound incredible at or near this price range, find a place that has a broken-in pair, or just put them and break them in.

The most profound invest!ment I've made in audio.

I had, like many of us at home music producers and mixing engineers, been looking for my next pair of speakers in order to further progress into this craft. I had researched day in and day out at what could be "a speaker that is made for me" and I had been on the fence between a few, but Dynaudio was always on my list and was the make that consistently pulled me towards it.

When I come across a Demo deal for the Dynaudio BM 6a I went for the jump and pulled the trigger on this monitor, and let me tell you.. just WOW! And before I talk about my first impressions of the monitor, I sincerely want to give thanks and credit for Ryne, my sales engineer on his world class customer service and grace in my initial ordering of this monitor pair. He's my go to for anything audio moving forward and I can endorse his professionalism and understanding. (Another reason I always go with Sweetwater for audio solutions)

Upon opening the boxes, these speakers screamed utilitarian beauty in their robust build from their minimalistic front baffle to the beautiful veneer wrapping its edges. I was excited needless to say.

I like many others haven't the opportunity to demo mid-high tier budget speakers because of the lack of these sorts of products in any retail environments near me, so it's a risky game to order speakers online in order to hear how they sound in YOUR space and especially in a timeframe to become familiar with their individual quirks. From Yamaha HS7 to Genelec 8030c, neither of which worked for my ears, (tbh the Yamahas were better IMO) I had high hopes for this particular speaker and as I plugged them up and set up my listening position, (67.5 in equilateral triangle) my hopes were met, and surpassed. These Speakers SANG to me. They have this ability to be larger than life with their smooth high end, and beautiful blooming low end, and for the first time I feel like the low-mid and mid information was more than something to pay attention to, but really showed me how my favorite music came together into the creation it is. I can't stress enough how profound my first impressions were with these speakers were.

From modern country to post punk to UK garage to 90's boom bap, these speakers allowed me to hear things in the music I hadn't EVER noticed prior. I know this sounds generic, but it really was like a veil was lifted from the "boxyness" I had heard from every speaker I'd owned prior to these, and for once I was sitting inside of my favorite music. Of course your listening position and room treatment or lack thereof contribute to how the stereo field works for you, but honestly the speakers just disappeared in front of me and all that greeted me was pure sound. The response is natural "round" and smooth, never fatiguing or bass heavy. Whatever is in the recordings you listen to, is what you will hear from these speakers without a doubt.

At my school I went to from engineering they used ATC SCM25A and I wasn't even taken aback by those speakers like I was with these in my space. And while I cant make an argument for these being better or worse with the former being 4x the price, I can confidently say that they were only marginally better. That being said, I say this is where the value for diminishing returns begins for nearfield monitoring.

As for working on them, they have showed me all the flaws in my mixes for the project I'm working on and have helped me to get that last 10-15% that I could never understand where I was going wrong on my prior monitoring sources. After a week of purely listening to them I felt I had enough judgment on their character to get to work and use them as the tool I intended them to be. My mixes instantly translated from my home system to the car, to a club system, to my phone speaker, and that.. is invaluable. And while my mixes still aren't perfect (I wont lie to myself) these speakers allow me to see the shortcomings in my skills and inspire me to continue to improve as I move forward with this craft and my Dynaudio BM 6a will continue to be my nearfield monitoring system for years to come! As I find myself in a better, more permanent space, the only upgrade I see myself getting is a pair of their matching Dynaudio subs for a full range nearfield monitoring solution.

TLDR:
I love these speakers, I feel like to my ears I have finally found "MY" studio monitor, one that is both revealing and inspiring to both listen to and work on for both production, and mixing. I believe this is where the value of diminishing returns begins on nearfield monitoring and I implore you to take a shot on this speaker if you're in the marker for a mid-high tier budget nearfield monitoring solution. I think you'll find yourself agreeing with the points I've made, and you'll receive a product that is both historically backed by 20 years of reproduction of a single speaker, and a piece of engineering that blurs the lines between technical prowess and art.

Thank you again Ryne for working with me in ordering this amazing product. Happy mixing y'all!

Just a little update

I reviewed these and actually own an older model. They are sublime and have a first-order x-over (6dB/octave) at 1,500Hz, sort of unheard of. These are close, the cross is third order and higher, they are louder, not as ethereal, but I heard a pair of broken-in ones and they are nice. they are a dying breed as Class D is inexpensive and efficient. I only know of one Class D amp that can touch "traditional" amps, Hypex. But, Just get these, give them a few months and they will open right up, move them around a bit, etc. Focal may have beryllium domes tweeters, but up close, silkies rule. Don't send them back until you have played a couple of hunde red hours through them, leave them on while at work if you are impatient. The ClassD speakers with tons of power have that much power as they change when they put out too much, especially with switching PSUs instead of linear ones. These and the 15As have DynAudios most famous silk tweeter and they are very good, the woofers have the magnet inside the voice coil, big coil, less cone warping. Give them a chance and they won;t dissapoint.

An enlightening experience

My BM6A's arrived earlier today, and what can I say? They are absolutely amazing.

Beautiful and very natural frequency response. Deep, tight lows. Clear, detailed mids. Absolutely smooth, pristine sound that I could (and I did!!) listen to for hours on end without the slightest bit of fatigue (unlike with other popular monitors).

This is my first ever pair of Dynaudios and after only one day I'm already convinced that there's no turning back. Truly enlightening.

..as Dynaudio says: "If It's There You'll Hear It!"

I'm very glad I chose the Dynaudio BM6As over other high end brands I was considering to purchase about 3 months ago; In fact, I hadn't really heard of Dynaudio before my SW rep suggested them.

Bottom line: Excellent at neutrality; no unnecessary flavor added to your music, unlike a lot of other higher end monitors.

You will hear exactly what you NEED to hear while mixing.

Highly recommended active monitors. Don't let their size fool you.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

What a great pair of speakers! They're not huge or flashy, but these monitors can push some real volume without sacrificing an ounce of clarity. In fact, these monitors are real performers at any listening level, and provide the perfect choice for the discriminating audiophile or engineer working in small to mid-sized settings.
