Top-of-the-line BB Bass

This BB P35 5-string electric bass guitar is the new king of the iconic BB line. The neck's thinner profile mixes with light-weight tuning machines to offer a well-balanced instrument. And the bass's Initial Response Acceleration (IRA) 3-piece alder/maple/alder body sings like a well-played vintage instrument. Modern appointments such as the sustain-enhancing 6-bolt miter neck joint and convertible bridge ensure you enjoy the most harmonically rich sustain possible. If you want a modern take on the BB bass that any pro would be proud to play, the BB P35 5-string is for you.

The BB bass legacy

When the first Yamaha BB basses rolled off the line in the late '70s, the bass world quickly took notice. A diverse array of high-caliber players took to these unique instruments, such as Van Halen's Michael Anthony, No Doubt's Tony Kanal, and legendary session ace Abraham Laboriel Sr. Their comfortably contoured bodies, clear-as-a-bell electronics, and immediately identifiable look keep these basses at the forefront of many different genres. The Yamaha BB P35 is among the latest additions to this storied line of lauded instruments.

Familiar construction with modern twists

What truly sets Yamaha's BB basses apart from other basses are their comfortable and familiar contours. Carefully crafted from a finely tuned combination of alder and maple, the BB P35 5-string's body boasts that same identifiable character. Its rounded edges and forearm and belly cuts seem to melt into your body while performing. The bass's 5-piece maple and mahogany bolt-on neck sings with a new level of punch and sustain, thanks to its 6-bolt miter design. And its slightly thinner profile is a welcome addition for more modern styles of players.

Initial Response Acceleration

Once a Yamaha BB P35 has been assembled, it is then put through Yamaha's IRA process. This is a subtle vibration that simulates the tone, feel, and resonance of a vintage instrument with a perfectly broken-in feel. As soon as you hit a note on your new P35, you'll notice that each fret speaks; there are no extraneous rattles in the hardware, and you can feel each pitch throughout your entire body. Many instrument companies have their own way of treating their products, but Yamaha's IRA process is among the favorites here at Sweetwater.

Fantastic Instrument!

I've owned two Yamaha basses in the past but neither were made in Japan. This BBP35 bass is on a whole other level. It exudes quality and professionalism. I was interested in adding 5-string P-bass to my arsenal and the Fender offering just didn't do it for me. I feel the PJ setup would be better for more clarity in the B string which is certainly the case with this bass. I played my first gig with it last night and I was simply blown away by how easy to play and how powerful the pickups are. Every note just rang out with authority. This bass just immediately feels "at home" with me. The 3-knob configuration is quite versatile and yet so simple to obtain various tones from thumpy lows to sizzling highs. My bass was a demo (I still can't see why) that weighs just under 10 pounds. A shout out to Corey Elliot and associates for assistance during the shipping portion which I felt was a bit too lengthy. I blame FedEx and the Christmas rush for this. The Yahama BB series is a very underrated line in the bass world. I promise you won't be disappointed. Especially with the Pro series!

BBP35 Great Bass!

I've had this bass a couple of weeks now and have had it on a couple of gigs and rehearsals. The first thing I noticed when I played it at Sweetwater was how comfortable it was and that comfort translated into a smooth and easy playing feel on the gig. The tone is very big and thick and I had to turn down my usual amp settings. I have used the pickups individually with most of the time spent on the split coil. This gives a P bass like sound that is articulated and thick. Using the bridge pickup thins things out a little for when you need a little growl and bite. One thing I very much appreciate is how even this bass plays across the fretboard. No woofy or boomy notes so it's much easier to play smoothly and musically. I've owned a lot of basses and have always liked passive basses so I'm glad to have a bass of this quality done passive. Thanks Yamaha.
