Need a durable in-ear monitor system with easy setup that won’t break the bank? The ATW-3255 In-ear Monitor System from Audio-Technica delivers quality sound at an exceptional price. Designed for live performance venues, houses of worship, and theaters, the ATW-3255 System includes a wireless receiver, a wireless transmitter, and one pair of in-ear monitor headphones. The system delivers exceptional stage-quality sound with many backend features designed to fight RF interference, even in dense RF environments. Sweetwater performers of all stripes turn to the ATW-3255 for a system that keeps the show going running — no matter what!

Dynamic wireless receiver

The powerful body pack receiver features an OLED screen for viewing settings and a heavy-duty but low-profile body clip for securing the pack to your person. The body pack accepts AA batteries with an estimated life of 7 hours per charge/set. It also includes an antenna that boosts RF stability and a high-quality headphone amp for enhanced audio clarity.

ATH-E40 monitor headphones

This renowned pair of monitor headphones delivers clear live sound playback with enhanced bass and balance across the frequency spectrum. Additional internal dual phase push-pull drivers create incredibly well defined and isolated monitoring audio for such a small headset. This set also features a detachable cable for easy storage, flexible memory cable loops that develop a customized fit with wear, a carrying case, and four pairs of silicon ear tips (spanning extra-small to large).

Straightforward system transmitter

This ultra-low-profile transmitter features a rackmount design for easy integration, even in tight control booths and monitoring stations. A front-facing OLED screen keeps monitoring your settings straightforward without excess knobs or switches to clutter your view. The transmitter’s rear panel features balanced XLR inputs, loop outputs, and a network port for lots of flexibility. There’s also a built-in 3000 Link mode, and since this system shares many design elements with the 3000-series UHF Wireless Mic System, you can use the transmitter with other 3000-series devices.

Intuitive settings and controls

The ATW-3255 system quickly adapts to your wants and needs. It can operate in stereo or mono with ample pan/personal mix controls for adjusting audio to taste, including EQ, limiter, gain control and balance controls. You can also control the system remotely using Wireless Manager software, which is super convenient for large spaces where time is of the essence.

Excellent. Exceptional value that will compete with the big IEM wireless systems.

Long review - but I never leave reviews....

I have been a semi-pro gigging musician/band owner for over 20 years. About 20 years ago, I converted the band to in-ear-monitors with a sennheiser IEM G1 system (9v batteries and all) and Shure e5 in ears. A couple years later I upgraded to custom Ultimate Ears IEMs. Since that time, I have always deployed Sennheiser wireless systems, including a G2 system and most recently the SR350 tour grade system with G3 beltpack receivers. Used that system for around 10 years. There were also a few stints with provided sound where we used Shure PSM 900s and PSM 1000s with the p10r receiver. The Shures definitely sound great, so much so that they had me thinking about changing from Sennheiser. I also had to upgrade because we were still on the 600 mhz range. So, it was either shure or sennheiser G4. Problem is, Shure PSM 900s and 1000s are on eternal backorder and cost 3x as much, and sennheiser g2,g3,g4 series are all essentially the same thing with new faceplates. I then noticed that Audio Technica just releasted the ATW 3255. I was intrigued so much that I purchased them.

After two gigs, all I can say is WOW. Sennheiser needs to take note. The clarity of the Audio Technica system is INCREDIBLE. We heard things in our mix we have never heard - and all we did was replace the wireless system, not the console, not the settings on our digital board, etc. The Audio Technica system is feature packed. No other IEM system operates 470-608mhz. I feel "safe" from the next FCC frequency banning (I have already been burned on 700 mhz and 600 mhz).

The system is easy to set up as long as you understand how to setup wireless systems, and understand how to create four independent systems from two stereo transmitters (We only use our aux's mono - no need or time for stereo in a live setting). No manual needed. I had to adjust the sensitivity down -6db on the rackmount transmitters to match the gain structure of the console. Turn off limiter and adjust squelch, and done. Syncing to the beltpack is super easy. And, if you SCAN on the beltpack and then sync the transmitter, you can see a graph of ALL frequencies in your area. It essentially gives you a wireless spectrum analyzer that you can use to dial in all your other wireless systems (We deploy about 10 different wireless systems from guitar/vox/etc).

Sennheiser is rock solid. I have used them for 20 years. But there is a noticible hiss noise floor in the sennys that has been well discussed. There is also just something lacking in the sound quality of their iem systems. Best I can describe, the Audio Technica's sound like a wire. They sound like CD quality while the sennys sound like FM quality with the same source. I will say this also - the difference is more noticible in a live setting. Plugging in an MP3 source and comparing the two it is not as noticeable.

The only minor complaints I have:
I do recommend an antenna combiner. The audio technica's do lack range without one, but still suitable for most stage sizes.
I wish they would have put real LED meters, or, made the screen turn red/change colors when input clips the transmitter. You have to be right up on the screen to see the audio meter.

All and all - this system is incredible. If Audio Technica made it $5,000 and had a 2 transmitter 1U rack and labeled it "Tour Grade," I am confident this system would replace Sennheisers and Shures on contract riders.

One last thing. Sweetwater is also incredible. My sales rep, Paul Allen, is great. I have dealt with Paul for 10 years or so, and all I do is email him what I want, tell him to bill me, and I am done. I have not visited a big name box music store ever since! Pictire is prior to me racking the gear!

Just buy it !

I've been burned by the frequency changes in the past and one of the reasons I went with this AT unit is the amount of Tunable Frequencies 470-608 MHz on this unit.
The sound quality is better and the noise floor is hardly audible when compared to the Shure PSM 600 and some lower end units .

The frequency scan and sync is awesome and works flawlessly.
The monitor software is also helpful when scanning for frequencies.

I bought 2 of these units and will definitely be buying to more !

Don’t waste your money on any other unit!

If you're looking for a professional in ear monitor system that is reliable, sounds good, and a great price, this is the unit! I've tried toured with shure psm300s and 900s, as well as the sennheiser G4s. While I preferred the sound of the Shure units, they weren't as reliable, with frequent cut outs and in some venues, weren't able to find any clean frequencies due to the limited tuning bandwidth. I also noticed that my shure units would cut out when come in contact with my wireless microphone.

While the sennheiser units had a wider tuning bandwidth, they also had a higher noise floor, and in some venues I still struggled to find clean frequencies.

This is where the AT unit shines! With the wide tuning range, I am able to find a clean frequency at any venue I go to, and never have to worry about scratchy reception anymore. I can also use this unit to do a full scan of the 470-608 spectrum and coordinate frequencies for the rest of my wireless gear.

For the price, this unit is the best wireless in ear monitor unit. It doesn't get any better than this unit until you start getting to the high end units like the psm1000s, wisycom, and lectrosonic units.

Finally an In-Ear system that does what I need

I bought this system to replace an older, frankly inferior system by Carvin. I received this from Sweetwater in 2 days...just WOW!!! and took it to rehearsal that night without ever taking it out of the box. I set it up and I was initially underwhelmed, but it did work and I got through the rehearsal. Let's just say it pays to do more than scratch the surface when getting new gear.
The next day, upon actually digging in to the various menus and features, I was able to dial in a strong, loud and crystal clear soundscape in my ear buds. Adjusting the input sensitivity, bass and treble eq, and receiver gain gave me the best sound I've ever had in my ears. This is also using my Shure 425 ear buds, which I used with my previous IEM system and NEVER sounded this good. The included Audio Technica ear buds don't fit my ears particularly well, regardless of the tips I used (it came with 4 sets of tips). They did have a clear sound, though not as good a bass response as the Shures. The A/T earbuds do have a nice flexible part where they go behind the ears which allows for a snug, secure fit on your head...I wish the Shure's had that feature.
The transmitter has easy to use menus with a nice, solid-feeling knob to scroll with. The small antenna is a welcome change from the 10" antenna in the Carvin system.
The receiver belt pack is well made, with a metal housing and solid latches for the battery compartment. All the adjustment buttons (for frequency, gain, etc) are protected from accidental bumps under the battery cover. It's also quite small and lightweight, again a significant upgrade from the Carvin.
With the gain and eq adjusted, I could keep the volume knob on the receiver set well below max, which gave me plenty of headroom for when my guitar players invariably turn up their amps :-)
There is rack mounting gear included, which is a wonderful consideration by A/T.
This IEM system is definitely worth checking out if you are in the market. Shure and Sennheiser are good, but don't sleep on this Audio Technica system.

Fantastic!

This unit is fantastic. Great features, the audio quality is exceptional. Very close to hard wired, and the ear buds that come with this are much better than you might expect. I have expensive, custom molded IEMs. They went down for a show so I was forced to use the AT ears. Pleasantly surprised! They sounded very good, even the seal was not too bad once I picked the right size tips.
I'm recommending this unit to all my colleagues.
