The Well-tempered Celviano

The Casio AP-470 Celviano digital piano delivers authentic grand piano sound and playability. Celviano instruments feature Casio's Tri-Sensor 88-key scaled hammer action keybed with simulated ebony and ivory keys for a superbly natural acoustic piano playing experience. The sounds are incredibly realistic thanks to Casio's award-winning AiR Sound Source, which utilizes grand piano samples recorded at four dynamic levels to deliver piano sounds with long natural decays and remarkable expression. The AP-470 features 22 built-in sounds that you can split and layer as needed, including two gorgeous stereo grand pianos which breathe with lively damper resonance. And with 256 notes of polyphony, your Celviano can handle even your most complex performances, as they're amplified in all their glory by the AP-470's rich-sounding onboard speaker system.

World-class onboard sounds

The Celviano AP-470 includes two world-class grand piano sounds, with variations of each to suit any musical setting. At Sweetwater, we find these sumptuous grand pianos perfect for many genres. Casio's AiR (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) sound engine delivers incredible piano realism with advanced sympathetic string resonance, which unmasks the complex harmonic interaction between undamped strings. Damper resonance, hammer response, and lid simulation provide even greater detail to capture every nuance of your performances. A total of 22 sounds are onboard, including electric pianos, organs, and other essential instruments. Adjustable Chorus and Brilliance are included along with a Hall Simulator, which places your piano in a virtual concert space of your choosing.

Incredibly natural playing feel

Casio's renowned Tri-Sensor Scaled Hammer Action keys give you an incredibly natural acoustic grand piano playing feel. The innovative hammer action, accurately scaled across the entire key range, and simulated ebony and ivory key surfaces reinforce the illusion. Three levels of adjustable touch sensitivity let you customize key response to suit your particular playing style, while realistic hammer response accurately reproduces the delay between key strike and note sounding. Just like an acoustic grand, this high-resolution keyboard allows for quick repetition of notes without the need to return the key to its resting position. For the ultimate in piano realism, the AP-470 even re-creates the mechanical sounds of a grand piano's keys.

Innovative features for performance and practice

The AP-470 is not only perfect for performance, but also for lessons and practice. Headphone Mode optimizes the piano’s stereo image for private listening. Duet mode splits the keyboard into two identical pitch ranges, allowing, for instance, a teacher and student to sit side-by-side and play a duet. The onboard Music Library stores 60 songs, with space for ten additional songs of your choice. The Concert Play feature provides ten audio recordings of a full symphony orchestra and lets you play along with the left- and/or right-hand piano parts removed. You can also record your performances using the AP-470’s two-track MIDI and audio recorders. The AP-470 connects via class-compliant USB to any Mac, PC, iOS, or Android device without the need for additional drivers.

Traditional elegance, modern functionality

The Casio Celviano AP-470 seamlessly blends traditional elegance with innovative modern features and functionality. The piano lid can be raised or lowered to adjust the tone and volume the same way you would with an acoustic piano, and a sliding key cover protects the keys when not in use. Its class-compliant USB port gives you instant connectivity to your computer and mobile devices. Download the free Chordana Piano companion app, which lets you customize your AP-470’s functions from your smartphone or tablet. View PDF scores and interact with MIDI files as you learn to play your favorite songs. With its stylish, traditional upright cabinet and included matching deluxe bench, the Casio Celviano AP-470 is beautifully designed to compliment any decor. It will enhance the elegance of any room in your home as it enriches your family's musical creativity.

Really satisfied four months in ..

One of my family members is a long-time Sweetwater customer, and referred me to his sales rep, Mason Boisvert, because of my interest in a better quality digital piano. I had visited a few local stores and played a variety of instruments, but also did an extensive internet search and was pretty sure i wanted the AP-470 in white because it met a variety of desirable qualities at the lowest price point: authentic piano feel and sound, color (yes, we were thinking about aesthetics in the home), and overall quality for long term satisfaction.

So, while I had not actually played the AP-470, Sweetwater had them in stock and our local providers were complaining of supply chain delays; plus Sweetwater offered a fantastic time payment plan, so I took the risk and ordered the instrument.

I happened to need this piano for my second residence, as I work away from my permanent home. In one setting I have a Steinway baby grand, so I am VERY spoiled. I am surprised to say that I am thrilled with the Casio AP-470, and discovered some things about it that have made it especially perfect for my needs and preferences. In particular, the Casio Piano digital app available on Android and Apple tablets provides useful features for customization. I am able to program the Celviano AP-470 to an antique temperament that I also use for my Steinway -- for the technical reader, I like the Werkmeister temperament with A@438 hz. It is astonishing how the digital use of a temperament that includes seven perfect fifths within the octave creates harmonics and a sense of increased string resonance much like my wood instrument! If you haven't experienced the difference between a temperament that includes perfect intervals and a piano where every interval is equally out of tune, I highly recommend giving it a go.

Okay, the reader will also want to know that the sound overall is shockingly satisfactory, particularly with the lid open above. Also, the capacity to digitally adjust the action to one of three settings is especially helpful -- I prefer the lighter setting, as it is closest to my wood instrument. The cabinet seems well-made.

One CAN learn to use the keyboard without a tablet, and many of the most frequent settings are just one or two touches away and labeled easily enough on a strip above the keybed. That said, I highly recommend the use of a tablet or smartphone to access the digital app as it gives easier access to the more intricate features of the instrument's many setting options.

Well, that's more than I thought I would write. Sorry for the long winded endorsement. I'm so happy with the outcome and will consider Sweetwater (and Mason) for my future music purchase needs.

Better Sound and feel Than High-end Kawai

I did several months of research before purchasing, visiting multiple piano stores and trying many digital pianos. The sound and feel of the Casio AP470 is better than that of a high end digital hybrid Kawai CA99 at a $ List price. I even find the sound better than that of my 7ft SAMICK Acoustic Grand. Putting it together was a simple as it could be and the opening lid really gives you an amazing dynamic grand feel. The attention to detail is amazing even down to the string sound you get when you press the sustain pedal as the damper lifts and gently vibrates the strings. Sweetwater was awesome!!!!! my Sales guy Anthony Giraldi was amazing. piano arrived 2 days before expected. Sweetwater and Anthony Giraldi will be my go to for everything going forward.

A little disappointing

Somewhat disappointed with the quality of sound and volume this projects even with the back open. Was expecting a richer sound.

Many of the keyboardists here at Sweetwater have fond memories of Casio that go all the way back to when we first started playing, and that's often kept us coming back for decades. Today, we're happy to point players to Casio keyboards, no matter how long they've been playing - even if they've never played at all. In fact, we've set up many beginners with Casio LK series Lighted-key models, and they've regularly raved about how easy these keyboards make learning. Likewise, several of the solo performers at Sweetwater swear by their fully loaded Privia and other advanced lines, which provide top-notch accompaniment and more. And if you stop by the Sweetwater Piano Showroom, we'll be happy to show you the latest Casio home piano - all providing amazing value and style.
